Gleich zu Anfang der Reise wurden wir beklaut, zwei von uns wurden krank und wir mussten riesige Staudämme überwinden. Das alles spielte sich im Sommer 2017 ab. Wir haben uns nach unserer Norwegen Radreise dazu entschlossen in ein warmes Land zu reisen und Wasser nicht mehr in Form von Regen sondern in Form von schönen Seen und Flüssen zu genießen. GESAGT GETAN! Wir haben uns Kajaks gekauft und Tim hat auf Google Maps einen Fluss irgendwo in Spanien rausgesucht den wir hoffentlich runter paddeln können. LEICHTER GESAGT ALS GETAN! In Barcelona der Hauptstadt Spaniens angekommen, beginnen unsere Strapazen! Gleich in der ersten Nacht geschieht ein riesen Unglück! Am nächsten Morgen fahren wir weiter nach "Tremp'", einer kleinen Stadt in den südlichen Pyrenäen. Auch dort müssen wir feststellen, dass wir uns das Alles etwas zu leicht vorgestellt haben. Nach der zweiten sehr kalten Nacht sind wir schon sehr fertig und dabei haben wir unsere Kajaks noch nicht einmal aufgepumpt! Dann geht es jedoch endlich los und die Stimmung hebt sich bei Allen wieder! Wir müssen jedoch schnell feststellen, dass der Fluss nicht für unsere Kajaks geschaffen ist. Überall hängen riesige Baumstämme ins Wasser und alles ist voller kleiner Spinnen. Auch der Wasserstand reicht nicht ganz aus und wir müssen oft absteigen und schieben. Als wir dann an unserem ersten Stausee ankommen, haben wir zwar Gegenwind, jedoch sind wir alle gut gelaunt, weil die Landschaft einfach der Hammer ist! Gleich am nächsten Tag haben wir das nächste große Problem. Der Staudamm ist nicht dafür ausgelegt, dass irgendwelche Paddler mit ihren Schlauchbooten drüber klettern. So müssen wir lösungorientiert denken und unsere Boote über die Staumauer schaffen. Als wir das nach einiger Zeit geschafft haben ist jedoch erst die Hälfte geschafft! Wir müssen schließlich auch wieder runter zu unserem Fluss. Das raubt uns nochmal viel Zeit, Kraft und Schweiß (40 Grad Mittagshitze), da es keinerlei Wege gibt und wir unsere Boote ein steiles Geröllfeld runter tragen müssen. Später auf unserer Reise werden wir feststellen müssen, dass diese nur eine von vielen Strapazen ist, die uns noch erwarten - das gehört aber einfach dazu, sonst wär es ja kein Abenteuer! Trotz allem war es eine super Reise, wir hatten es nur nicht ganz so einfach. Aber genau darum geht es ja, Erfahrungen sammeln und so viel wie möglich erleben. Wir haben die gesamte Reise aus eigene Tasche finanziert und sind somit noch stolzer über das was wir geschafft haben. Für das nächste mal ist jedoch klar, dass eine Drohne her muss und wir allgemein unser Kamera Equipment aufstocken müssen, denn wir wollen uns in Sachen Qualität noch deutlich steigern. Wir haben versucht unsere Reise so echt wie es nur geht zu dokumentieren und dabei nichts zu spielen oder zu stellen (unser Fokus lag auf storytelling). I decided to use an older iphone for recording (because you can record from your headphones mic) and use my Samsung S8 for the video. The close ups are done with a Sony SJCAM5000. Was very easy to shoot and even easier to edit! Probably going to use this setup a lot more.. lol

Building a catamaran

This is day 4 of waiting out high winds at Highborne Cay in The Bahamas! We found a nearby reef on the chart that we wanted to try spearfishing at, but because of the strong winds blowing in from the East, the reef was getting hit by the strong currents/swells of water flowing between Highborne Cay and Allen's Cay. We decided it was too rough to be in and decided to go back to the boat. Randall still wanted to spearfish, but there weren't any fish by the boat, so he tried baiting them with some pepperoni that he says didn't taste very good. He ended up catching a little fish within 3 minutes and didn't even need the pepperoni after all. We had a great time cooking the fish and eating our first "real food" since leaving Florida...only problem is that Kenzie doesn't like fish! Shots taken from the waterline - Maiden Call to Hamburg at night 03/15/18. Hier einmal etwas ganz anderes. Statt Wintersegeln haben wir ein Video für Fairplay im Hamburger Hafen gedreht. Die „CMA CGM Antoine de Saint Exupéry“ läuft nachts - von mehreren Schleppern assistiert – die Elbe aufwärts und macht am Burchardkai fest. Das für Hamburg bis dahin größte Schiff: 400 m lang und 59 m breit. Wir haben aus dem Aluboot aus gefilmt – (siehe auf diesem Kanal „Offenes 4,50m Aluboot - Testfahrt auf dem Rhein“). Es war dunkel, kalt und recht wackelig auf dem kleinen Ding. Viel Spaß beim mitwackeln! Aufgenommen mit der Sony A6500 und dem Sony 28/2.0.

My very first sailboat purchase. A video montage in Fort Pierce, Florida of buying a 1971 Chris Craft Caribbean 35 and performing the water trial. Sunburst has an 11 ft. beam and a 4.9 foot draft with a full keel and skeg mounted rudder. The engine is an inboard 54 Hp 2010 Yanmar diesel fitted beneath the sole of the salon with a Velvet Drive transmission. • Equipped with 2 dual frequency sonars(50/200). After making my purchase, I rented a slip at Harbortown Marina and spent a few weeks making repairs and becoming familiar with every detail of Sunburst. I wanted to make sure everything was in good working order before taking it out on such a long trip by myself. So, after stocking up with supplies and waiting for good weather, I finally launched, heading towards Kemah, Texas. BTW: I had never piloted a vessel or had even been on a sailboat before. So I did a quick study on navigational rules while still at the dock. I also used the engine mostly on this first trip but had a wonderful time sailing for a couple of days and motor sailing with just the head sail at other times. There is nothing like letting the wind push you across the open water in beautiful weather. I just got hooked to the sea.
