The LSG Group has taken its culinary excellence skills to yet another level: The company’s Global Culinary Excellence Team has developed “bonus food” for Alexander Gerst, a European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut and International Space Station (ISS) commander during the upcoming “Horizons” mission. Bonus food plays an important role in the astronauts’ physical and psychological wellbeing during their typically six-month stay onboard the ISS. While their day-to-day meals are a selection from a standard food catalogue, they can take a certain amount of bonus food (about 10 percent of their total provisions), which is specifically developed to their individual preferences. The consumption of the bonus food onboard the ISS is an important team event that fosters morale and spirit during the astronauts’ challenging stay in space. “When you fly onboard the ISS, you are around 400 km above our planet,” said Frank de Winne, Head of the European Astronaut Centre (EAC) in Cologne, Germany. “We certainly want our astronauts to perform in an optimal manner, so we need to provide them support. One of the supports we provide is food.” “In order to enhance the challenging life of the astronauts, we try to offer them a taste of home,” commented Jörg Hofmann, Director Culinary Excellence LSG Group. “Food is deeply connected to our families, personal life and cultural heritage. In de-veloping the bonus food, we needed to think completely out of the box and were able to apply all our knowledge and culinary expertise in a very unique way.” Today, there was a media event at the EAC in which the attendees were able to sample the Horizons mission bonus food. “It was a great compliment and accomplishment for us to receive some excellent feedback from the ESA, and we look very much forward to seeing the astronauts enjoy our creations in space,” added Jörg Hofmann. The Horizons mission is scheduled to start mid-2018.

Raymarine/Tacktick Wireless Wind Anemometer Repair Patrick Childress show how to do a battery replacement in your Raymarine or Tacktick wireless wind indicator. If your wind display on a Tacktick unit/Raymarine , wind speed shows just dashes, it usually indicates that there is no signal from the masthead wind indicator (T101). This indicates that a wind transmitter battery replacement is due. It may be that the solar charged battery at the top of the mast can no longer be charged. Replacing the rechargeable battery at the top of the mast often fixes this, and/or the battery inside of the display unit. This is strictly a How To Video that demonstrates the replacement of the battery in a Raymarine or Tacktick wireless anemometer/wind transmitter. Years ago, Raymarine bought Tacktick wireless instruments, as well as the wind anemometer. After a while the batteries can not hold a charge and communication between the cockpit instruments and the masthead unit fails. Where do you find the battery for a Raymarine anemometer? Today we take you for a ride on a 'Day at the Office' while we're filming for some friends with a daysail charter business here in Grenada, called Bananaboat Tours. | Season 2 | Episode 21 | On this episode we pull up the hook at Cueva Valdez and head out for a easy 7 nm passage to Pelican Bay. As soon as I got out of the anchorage I saw a large fog bank that was quickly approaching and soon over took me. After the fog passed I made my way into the anchorage of Pelican Bay which is a large half circle bay sounded by cliffs and very protected from the Northwest swell. After a much needed dip in the bay I wasted no time getting out of the 55 degree water, got my stuff together and went ashore to explore. I was fortunate enough to see the Island Scrub Jay and the Island Fox, both of which only exist on the Channel Islands. Pelican Bay turned out to be the most relaxing and comfortable anchorages of the trip by far! The last week of 2017 I took an amazing solo sailing trip to the Channel Islands. I visit six anchorages on Santa Cruz Island before sailing for Catalina Island and tying up in Isthmus Cove for New Years Eve. We sailed back on New Years Day enjoying sunshine, great wind and thousands of dolphins. While I was on my trip I started my first podcast and the first episode is up online now. The podcast is titled “A STERN VIEW” and is something of a cruising guide to anchorages and sailing destinations. Each episode is recorded on location and I cover everything I know about the anchorage from my research and experience at the anchorage. I also kept a journal in my logbook and will be posting them as a blog with still photos. This will act as support to the A STERN VIEW podcast as will each new video episode that features the anchorage covered in the podcast episodes.
