We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. Bunch of Lovely Coconuts | Lee Stocking Island | 60 Sailing Saoirse In this episode of Bunch of Lovely Coconuts | Lee Stocking Island | 60 Sailing Saoirse, we leave behind George Town to head north to explore the rest of the Exumas. First stop, Lee Stocking Island. We are one of many sailors taking advantage of the beautiful weather to leave George Town.Our map show that it will take around 6 hours to get there. We have a nice relaxing sail all the way up to our first cut, albeit a little slow. Brandy made us a delicious chia seed pudding snack. We decided to escape from the waves from the ocean side a little early. We went through an unnamed cut just north of Square Rock. The conditions were perfect! We had a little following sea helping us glide through the cut. The water on the other side was breathtaking! Brandy spotted a good anchorage for us to go get coconuts. So we dropped anchor and launched our new dinghy. Back in George Town we traded out the Beast and got a new to us inflatable dinghy. We’re really happy with it as we feel much more safe and we go a little faster. One day we might be able to afford a larger engine. But what we have works. We combed the beach for some low hanging fruit...coconuts that is. I made a short climb and chopped some down. But they were way too young for making coconut milk so we just drank them instead. We had fun exploring the Perry Institute of Marine Science. It has been abandoned for quite some time. It looks like in a blink of an eye everyone that worked and lived there just vanished. Funding may have been pulled after the death of John Perry. To our delight, The Perry Institute is full of coconut trees! we wonder around collecting the best ones for coconut milk. In this episode I give you an insider peek on how to make coconut milk from scratch. Step by step on how I do it here on Saoirse. I hope you guys try it out. However, with its isolation from the mainland and marine reserve status, it has prospered without too much human interaction. For this reason, it is now one of our favourite spots in NZ. The fish life is astonishing, the underwater vegetation is beautiful, and it holds the crown of the world’s largest sea cave by volume in Rikoriko cave (221 by 494 cubic metres), twice the volume of two other sea caves that claim this status. We love it here, can you tell? It was sad to leave. However, on our trip down the Northland coast Javelot crossed paths with a very laid back hammerhead shark who entertained us for a minute or two. Big breeze and huge Caribbean surf spiced up the action for KPMG Y2K (Youth to Keelboat) Race Day! 🌶 Y2K is all about getting young Antiguan sailors into the yachting industry. Aptly two youth teams showed tremendous camaraderie and quick thinking in the face of adversity. KPMG was well represented at the daily prize giving by John Applegate, Lisa Brathwaite, Christopher Brome, Michael Edghill and Bertram Alexander. Today's winners were presented with celebratory bottles of champagne and all of the 40-strong young sailors racing at Antigua Sailing Week were invited onto the stage to much applause. 10 years of Reggae In The Park Antigua! 🙌🏼🎶 30,000 people, 10 Years, 1 Love It was a 'big deal' as fans danced the night away to the sounds of Junior Kelly and Christopher Martin, the Jamaican artists had the very appreciative fans singing along to old favourites and teasing them with new releases. A brief shower and technical difficulties did not stop the celebrations. Alison Sly- Adams, President and Commercial Director, " I want to thank the fans for their incredible patience and understanding when the show was halted due to technical issues. Our production staff worked really hard to get it resolved as quickly as possible and once a solution was executed, the fans were treated to an incredible show by two amazing performers." The 10th edition of Reggae in the Park got off to a tremendous start with host Ibis hyping up the audience along with DJ Illist, followed by a cameo by Baja Jedd and a crowd pleasing set by Black Gold and LCD . Junior Kelly and Christopher Martin both spoke of the incredible energy and love they received from the audience and both call Antigua and Barbuda 'Home'. We sail over a dangerous, shallow reef bar that is notorious for grounding boats in order to get to Devil's Cay. Turns out that crossing this bar wasn't as big of a deal as the rumors would suggest. There's actually quite a bit of water over the bar even at low water - around 4ft or so. Crossing the bar is really just a matter of waiting until high tide, in which case, there will be more like 7ft of water over the bar, and also being mindful of avoiding a wind against tide situation at the bar. Once we dropped anchor at Devil's Cay, we spent the day hanging out at the beach and letting the kids play. It was really nice to be around 4 other cruising families, especially in an area that is somewhat remote. Later that evening, Tambi had the idea for building a fire on the beach. She gave me orders to gather wood. I obeyed. Tromping through the Bahamian brush I went in search for dried out branches. Within half an hour I amassed a pile of sticks large enough for a beach fire. Tambi built the fire. Weenies were roasted. Baked beans were consumed. Stringed instruments were played. Songs were sung. We very much enjoyed our time at Devil's Cay. Thanks for watching!! In Cartagena, we’ve been witnessing several processions. Amazing events taking place every day during the 12 days before Easter. Religious sculptures are carried through the city in processions. Each sculpture is carried on the shoulders of about 160 people for three hours through the streets of the city. Participants in the procession are dressed in long cassocks and hoods as to not show who they are and by participating they have washed offshore their sins. Thanks to David (son of Miguel), who has taken part already 13 times we were fortunate enough to attend the preparations for the procession of the patron saint of Cartagena. Since this is obviously a very unique event a lot of people want to take part in it. To make it fair a special program has been developed to organize the participation and the order standing. We are sailing on our catamaran Kanoa, a Lagoon 380 around the world. We like to explore new places, we like to speak with people, who share their culture by showing us national tradition and tell a story. We finally depart and set sail into the North Sea, with an overnight passage from Peterhead to Inverness. Few yachts go to where we go. Most are in a hurry to go cross the Atlantic and it's not a highly recommended anchorage. Too deep, hard to beach the dingy and a very rolling. That is all true. Best of all, it is not crowded with other yachts. It's got beautiful scenery, wonderful people and no wind! But we went even further and anchored in front of a totally isolated black sand beach.
