Seja bem vindo a bordo! Bons ventos!!! #dieteremaxivelejandoporai #veleiro #velejar #vidaabordo #vidadevelejador

It has been 3 years since our last haul out and Kist was ready for a new paint job and needed a few things fixed with our shaft from a previous event last summer (check out Ep.13 for the entire story... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qCF3A6-Z3GI&t=21s ). We hauled out at the Port Angeles Boat Yard, one of the few remaining places that allow you to do your own work! This video covers our routine of haul out projects and what we consider the best bottom paint for cruising around the Pacific Northwest to be! If anyone would like more videos on upgrades we've done to Kist or have any questions, please let us know in the comment section below! It’s time to focus on sticking Nutshell back together again. Magnus glues the opening for one of the cupboard doors in the head. He attaches new catches to many of the doors which were damaged in the explosion. He searches searches through the bits and pieces to put the Nutshell puzzle back together again! We are in Sawmill Bay on Whitsunday island. We venture to shore at low tide and Magnus has a feast of oysters. Wendy is not so keen! Thanks for watching. A glimpse of the Raja Ampat Marine life that you can see when cruising and diving with Jakare Liveaboard ! Thank you to our estimated guest for these nice images.
Raja Ampat is well known for its pristine waters and amazing diving. Marie and I spend a couple of days at a very remote island exploring. We'd motersailed over from Wayag only 2 days before and panned to stay in our swimming pool like anchorage for a week but the weather blew in exactly from the wrong angle so we hoisted the sails and retreated back to the safety of Wayag. We did enjoy those 2 days in Sayang though, amazing beaches, crystal clear water of the most amazing color and lots of fish. This season we have really missed interaction with locals and other cruisers so it was really cool to sail together with Chris and Viviane from Ilya. Seeya next time. #learningbydoing #sailing #RajaAmpat If you enjoy my videos and appreciate the effort that goes into making them then perhaps you would be interested in supporting their production. NO MORE HOLES! Yew! Finishing off the repairs to the hull we fibreglass the outside for strength and make it water tight. These are the biggest glass jobs we have ever done!!! https://www.sailingnandji.com/ This video was filmed in March as the global pandemic took off. Thailand was one of the first countries affected and we took the adequate precautions early to protect ourselves. If you would like to contribute towards Nandji's repairs please use this link. Thank you. http://paypal.me/SailingNandji If you are getting something out of our videos, please become a Patron to help support our production and adventures. Get Unseen footage, Exclusive vids and the inside scoop! http://www.patreon.com/Nandji In this episode of Sailing Nandji, we are getting close to finalising the repairs to Nandji after the reef scenario... The broken timbers have been removed and then re-planked by a local Thai contractor. To cover the timbers on the outside and to fill the seams the guys used an epoxy filler which I ground right back ready for fibreglassing. I had already back filled the seams on the inside with an epoxy wood glue and then fibreglassed over the lot including the structural ribs. The outside is now ready for more fibreglassing and we tackle the biggest glass jobs we have ever attempted. Before the reef scenario, we thought it would be fun to get a crew member on board for the sail across from Thailand to Sri Lanka, Laura from another Youtube channel came to join the crew and it was helpful to have another set of hands for the final fibreglassing job. Nandji is nearly ready to go back in the water and the repairs are coming to an end, the only question now is... Will our boat float??? With no sailing experience, we bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off from Australia sailing to the Pacific! We have since cruised through New Caledonia, Vanuatu, the Solomon islands, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and then onto the boat yard in Malaysia to prepare for the years to come. With a new engine, we continued onto Thailand, then back down into Indonesia and specifically West Sumatra to live the island life and chase the surf. With our Sailing plans changing, we returned to Thailand to wait for the weather and begin our journey to the northern route of the Indian Ocean to Sri Lanka before heading south across the Indian Ocean once cyclone season has finished and the trade winds begin! We were on our shake down sail when the mooring we were on failed on our home ended up on the reef. We saved the old girl and got her back to the boat yard for repairs to continue on our adventure! We departed the east coast of Australia in July 2017 and have since sailed over 10000nm offshore. We have explored some amazing countries and met some beautiful people along the way. We have experienced so many different and diverse cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our lives doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades around the World! This is the episode where we show exactly what happened the day things started shutting down in Panama. We had crew all over the place, and borders were closing at a rapid rate due to Covid-19. Most of the crew get back to the boat but we had to leave some crew behind and head out into the ocean, into the unknown. SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged 2012 Lagoon 450 Catamaran bought in Tortola, BVI at the beginning of 2018. Colin and his friend spent 4 months getting her seaworthy, before setting sail across the Caribbean. Follow our journey as we continue to fix her and eventually circumnavigate the globe! Our relationship gets to a breaking point. The strain of the past couple of weeks with Margarida's seasickness, lack of sleep and anxiety about where we can sail to be safe is causing grief. There is a solution but it seems they can't be found out in the middle of nowhere. Give it a thumbs up if you liked this episode! In this episode, we head out of Meaux in Northern Central France and head to a nice little spot called La Ferte Sous Juarre. We passed through 2 river locks. This was just a typical day cruising on the French Canals on a budget (Well, rivers in this case!) https://www.patreon.com/user?u=19042899 This was the scariest part of our trip so far in bringing Pearl home. Owning a boat certainly has it's challenges but it's totally worth it for us! It provides a lifestyle of constant growth. We have learnt a lot of valuable lessons from this experience and if we can share a few things with you guys, it's that: The ocean cannot be underestimated, always approach with caution. Lesson #2 is that bars are the most dangerous part of sailing, always cross at high tide and small swell. Lesson #3 Know your boat and its capabilities, ensure you can make it as strong as possible by doing everything you can to make it as safe and seaworthy as it will get ! - A little bit about us: "The Mer & The Man is a marine conservation based project aiming to support the mission of greater worldwide ocean sanctuary and protection. Our goal is to help shed light and encourage action on current global environmental issues the ocean is facing. These environmental issues will be the core of our conservation content within our adventure blog 'The Mer And The Man’. The issues we will be covering include; Plastic Pollution, The Fossil Fuel Industry, The Health Of The Great Barrier Reef, Ending The War On Sharks, and Education and Awareness. A little bit about us… Emily is 21 and currently studying a marine and environmental science degree and is a passionate free diver and ocean conservationist. Sage is 21 and has lived on his dads boat for 10 years and has salt running through veins and a very enthusiastic way of being. When we met we decided we wanted to live on the ocean together, go on crazy adventures and raise awareness about important issues at the same time. We hope we can help our viewers connect more with nature and encourage adventure wherever you decide to go in life. In this episode you can see both the highs and lows of passage making. Catching an amazing Mahi mahi, enjoying the stars and phosphorescence on night watch, spotting dolphins and whales and then… over heating the batteries. We joined the NC2V Rally so that we had the advantage of checking in to the Southern most island in Vanuatu, Aneityum. Although we had a safe weather window, we also had barely any wind and had to motor 33 out of the 35 hours that it took to cover the 222 nautical miles. Even on a short passage like this one from New Caledonia to Vanuatu things can go wrong and with all the time spent running the engine we think we’ve cooked our house batteries with over charging from the solar and the engine alternator. Join us on this adventure and follow along in the next episode to see what we learn about our batteries. The starboard engine would not start and after digging around, Ryan, that smart and handy man of mine figured out what the problem was. Thankfully this happened while still at the marina and we were able to track down the part we needed to make the repair and get the heck out of there and do some sailing! WE HAVE AMOST COMPLETED OUR GALLEY REFIT!! At this stage, 80+ days into lockdown we are all starting to go Stir crazy. Tensions are high and all we want to do is get the refit completed and start to plan our future adventures. With another huge storm blowing through, including a short hail storm, work this week was slow. We were all a little concerned about Grumpy the seagull being caught right in the thick of the hail storm but he weathered it well in the end. Robin is finally starting to see a possible end to the carpentry work, getting the cabinet faces installed in the galley, passages and cabins and all of two galley cabinet doors fitted. Again, lockdown has affected our being able to buy the correct hinges and latches for the cabinet doors, so another project remains close to being complete - but just not there. The cabinet faces, doors and all the teak paneling throughout the yacht has been created using Nida-core. It’s a great product - high strength, low weight composite that is ideal for use on a yacht where every 100gm of weight is important. This is how we get great looking cabinetry at a fraction of the weight of solid wood. The panels are created by sandwiching the polypropylene honeycomb nida-core panel between 3mm marine ply which was then finished with Formica or in the case of the teak panels , the core was sandwiched between marine ply and then teak veneered 3mm meranti boards. The finished product is really great and super light. It has many other uses too - due to its insulation properties, strength, it’s non corrosive and sound proof. It’s very popular in boat building but also used in many other applications. Denver’s solution to being cold, frustrated and stuck inside through the bad weather was to go for a run and shows us the beautiful lagoon surrounded by squalls. We hope you enjoy our video and don’t forget to subscribe to see where the wind eventually takes us. Thank you for watching!
