Just a quick update to work being done on the Pantera.

Hello Everyone! Sadly we are on our way home. The restrictions are becoming extremely tight and the government does not want foreign boaters in the bohemian waters. Luckily we have a home for the boat and decided it was best to head home and get 'The Far Side' ready for the upcoming season. Because of our draft, we decided to do short day sails out of the bahamas stopping at Shroud Cay again. It was very strange going into the mooring field with no neighbors around. In that case we were able to stretch our legs a little. COVID-19 UPDATE As of our time in Staniel Cay: Restrictions were getting tight and the country decided to go into another lockdown soon after we left due to Easter. The governor stated that we were able to make stops through the islands for safety and weather permitting, and having a deep drafted boat we did not feel comfortable crossing the banks at night. Exploration time! We find a great anchorage by the abandoned development, Crab Cay, just outside of George Town in the Exumas Bahamas. We had a blast walking around the island and hurling ourselves off the small cliffs created by a man-made canal. And for our underwater adventures, we find a very weird blue hole / cave which gave us a spooky feeling, so we shook it off by exploring a proper coral reef just nearby. We sail about 500 miles north from Key Largo to Charleston SC in just over 2.5days by hopping in the gulfstream and riding it due north up to about 80miles offshore. As could be expected, we make excellent time and have a fairly chill ride despite a few storms and increasing winds. This is the first time we've felt confident enough to actually ride the GS the whole way north because it takes you so far offshore. But it was definitely worth it for the speed we got. This week we make the trip from Georgetown, SC to Cape Lookout, NC. We get more wind and bigger waves than we were expecting, and have to make a decision about the safest route to take. In the end, it was worth the wild ride! Our Leopard 46, Clarity handled the conditions well. Je suis dingue, dingue, dingue, dingue, bon ce n’est pas un scoop, tout le monde le savais déjà ! Ce qui en fut un de scoop, c’est que j’ai attrapé la dengue et ça, c’est beaucoup moins drôle, enfin, moi je vois le côté positif, 6 kilos en dix jours, c’est juste ce qu’il me fallait pour retrouver mon poids d’avant traversée ! Ce-lui qui en a bien profité de cette dengue, c’est mon Tchoupi ! Hey, dix jours de liberté sans sa femme toujours collée à lui, mine de rien ça lui a permis de souffler un peu à mon petit mari ! Non, je ne vous raconte pas d’histoires, imaginez un peu, nous sommes vingt-quatre heures sur vingt-quatre ensemble, il est quand même super patient mon capitaine de me supporter à longueur de jour-née ! Alors, un peu de répits ne peut être que bénéfique, d’autant qu’il n’a pas le temps de s’ennuyer, figurez-vous qu’une soupirante lui fait les yeux doux, sa magic turtle de l’îlot Mitterand ! Tant que c’est qu’une tortue, no problème, de toutes manières, aucune sirène n’est recensée dans les parages ! Je plaisante, mais je le connais mon tendre Amour, il est inquiet, et au moins en nageant, il se change les idées. Et puis, il y a toutes les connaissances que nous avons autour de nous qui s’occupent bien de lui ! Toutes ces adorables bananas sont aux petits soins, et si les omelettes et les steaks hachés nourrissent l’homme, les petits plats pré-parés de nos amis comblent à merveille ses papilles de gourmand ! Durant ma fiévreuse période, l’arrivage de nos pièces moteurs que nous n’escomptions plus avant plusieurs jours fait retrouver à mon binôme son entrain aux réparations. Il peut enfin s’attaquer à la remise sur pattes de notre Lion. Dans un premier temps, le plan est de changer le damper sur le moteur le plus atteint, le tribord, afin de pouvoir toujours maîtriser Black Lion avec le bâbord en cas de besoin. Avec la première expérience de démontage, l’exercice est une formalité, mais le mal de la bête que nous pensions dépisté est plus profond. Après un examen plus pointilleux, Cyril trouve la cause réelle du dysfonctionnement, la coupable est la jonction entre le sail drive et la pièce blâmable ! Une coupelle en aluminium complètement cassée en deux et uniquement fixée par deux points au lieu de six. Cette nouvelle donnée nous éclaire sur l’origine de notre déboire et pourrait même être l’explication des vibrations, sources de nos problèmes de déboulonnage permanent à bord. Reste plus qu’à trouver une solution de rafistolage et pour ça je peux compter sur l’inspiration débordante de mon mécano. Il a dans l’idée de joindre les deux parties désunies par collage à l’époxy, l’enjeu est de taille mais qui ne tente rien n’a rien ! Dernier ajustement, dernier séchage, le téléphone sonne ! Un de nos followers s’est démené toute la journée pour nous trouver un soudeur sur Mayotte, nous sommes samedi soir, le professionnel se propose de nous aider ! Demain dimanche, il veut tenter une soudure à l’argon, et même si nous étions curieux d’expérimenter la résistance d’adhésion par le composé organique, impossible de refuser une si gentille faveur. L’opération est un succès, le moteur est remonté, la deuxième étape peut commencer, démontage du second propulseur ! Et là, surprise ! Le damper n’est pas le même que l’autre côté, il est plus massif et deux fois plus gros, ce n’est pas pour autant qu’il est plus costaud, vu qu’il a cassé aussi ! Pas d’autre choix, mon capitaine va devoir remettre le modèle plus simple mais pour ça, faut-il encore pouvoir déboulonner ces saletés de boulons ! Et c’est à la meuleuse que la libération se fera…. Notre Blacky est enfin prêt à reprendre la mer et me voilà sur mes deux pieds, parais à reprendre l’aventure….

Carving up in my paramotor and Dudek Warp wing around some Dunes at our secret camping location, Poor positioning of my air filter in my Vitorazzi Moster 185 (my fault) lead to sand being sucked into the cylinder and melting on the spark plug. This caused a hot spot and detonation, blowing the spark plug out of the head of this two stroke motor. I was able to turn into wind a bit for a safe but un-majestic landing. With a long walk up and down sand dunes to a spot where I could be retrieved by 4x4. No internal engine damage was done and the thread on the Head was fixed with a Go Kart Helicoil kit.
