In 2013-2014 I built a field marine station in a remote beach in Mozambique. We wanted to follow ecological principals and with the help of the bio-architecture Andrea Gross we designed a research station using red sand low cement bricks as structured walls, glass bottles and can walls on non-structural parts and best use of natural resource as the sun, water and wind. In this video I show step-by-step how the bottle walls were made. The Zavora Marine Lab is currently under a different direction but the lab. still working and contributing to our understand and conservation of Mozambican marine animals. In this weeks video we are discussing how we are going to build drawers in our narrowboat. its such an awkward space to work in so we used the programme sketch up to plan the area to scale. stay tuned for next weeks video where we will have the drawers installed. We’re Stephen and Kayleigh an English/ Scottish couple and along with our two dogs Hugo and Coco we will full time on board our 37ft narrowboat Grayswood. After living nearly two years in our self-converted campervan we decided we needed more space. So, as a compromise (Ste wanted a boat, I was happy in the van) we decided we would purchase a boat after spending some time on our friend’s narrowboat. Grayswood was conveniently located less that 5 minutes from my work and was found kind of by accident. I was visiting a friend who was staying in Aston Marina and whilst we were out walking the dogs, I seen the advert for Grayswood. I said to my friend “that looks a nice boat” and as I said it the marina manager appeared and asked if we would like a look inside. Naturally we did. After looking inside, the boat I texted Ste and told him I’d found us a boat. We made an offer after going back for a second viewing, after some negotiations within a week she was ours pending a survey. She was hauled out the following week and the survey went well. We kept her out on the hard standing for a further six weeks whilst we renovated the insides including fitting a new kitchen and bathroom. We were more or less ready with everything to prepare for the Pacific crossing when Covid-19 hits the world. We had to make a decision, staying in Panama or leaving to French Polynesia. A day before Panama makes the Lockdown, we decide to leave. We are not 100% ready with everything, got the new bimini just in time ready and lift the anchor to an unknown future. Nobody knows at that point if we will be allowed to make landfall in French Polynesia when we arrive there, so we start this crossing already with mixed feelings.
