The time has come. With the uncertain future of UP Boats, I made the repairs and modifications necessary to splash our UP340, Miss Annemarie, named after my mother from a piece of art commissioned by my father. We properly trimmed the outboard motor and took the UP340 through some initial paces before hoisting her up and securing her aboard “Moments in Time” We are not happy with the build quality of our UP340. It appears that UP Boats, LLC has gone dark and is questionable if they are still in business. Feel free to comment and let us know your thoughts. Subscribe and share the adventure! Become part of the conversation by liking https://www.facebook.com/SV.MomentsInTime/ *** Please Read *** During our dinghy review process, we conducted thorough research—examining manufacturers and speaking with multiple owners to gather their insights. In our videos, we explained why we chose the UP340 from UP Boats, LLC, based in Opa Locka, Florida. It met all our criteria and was proudly made in the USA. Unfortunately, our UP340 arrived 14 months late and already showed visible damage while still on the delivery truck. The damage turned out to be structural, and we immediately reported it to UP Boats, LLC. Despite having shipping insurance and receiving repeated assurances that a replacement would be provided, none ever arrived. As of July 10, 2025, all communication with UP Boats, LLC has ceased. It now appears that UP Boats, LLC is no longer in operation. Numerous complaints and legal actions have been filed by other buyers, indicating we are not alone in this experience. A quick online search for UP Boats reveals a troubling pattern. We will soon be posting videos on this channel detailing the problems we encountered with our damaged UP340 and the steps we had to take to make it marginally seaworthy. In hindsight, the cost savings from purchasing the UP340 do not justify the compromises we faced. We would have been far better off investing in a proven, high-quality Offshore Cruising Tender such as the OCT 350. *** End of Read ***

Join me, Ryan the Rogue Rigger on my journey of restoring a Mach 2 International Moth that I picked up earlier this year. I plan on upgrading it with all the modern systems with out breaking the bank and then I will take you along for the steep learning curve of learning to sail this Tasmanian devil of a boat. I have dreamed of owning one of these since they first came out back in 2008 when I got to take one for a spin. It was an unreal experience/feeling that I have been chasing ever since. At the time they were crazy expensive to buy and not in my budget. These days they are still crazy expensive to buy new, now there are a lot of older moths on the second hand market that are relatively affordable (Less than a Laser/ILCA in this case). For those of you who don't know, an International Moth is a single handed 11 foot long hydro foiling sailboat. These boats literally fly over the water on two hydrofoils doing speeds 2-3 times the speed of the wind. This video is just some highlights from my very chill light wind session last week. Good to get the light air practice as well just to get out on the water even if there was not enough breeze to foil. Enjoy!

It was all happening at the start of the first race with Moneypenny making a daring dive for the start-line on the gun, shot from the POV of SHK Scallywag. Thanks David and crew for having our camera on board. Great footage as always.

Most people think surviving storms offshore is about having a strong boat. Heavier. Tougher. Overbuilt. It’s not. Offshore seamanship is the art of keeping a boat in balance: aerodynamically, structurally, and mentally. When a boat is balanced, energy stays manageable. When it’s not, energy builds until something breaks… or someone gets hurt. In this livestream, I break down several real-world examples; near misses, fatalities, and structural failures — to show how the same imbalance manifests in very different ways. This isn’t about blaming individuals or reacting for clicks. It’s about understanding force, judgment, and why “adding strength” so often makes things worse instead of better. If you sail offshore, or plan to, this mindset matters more than any piece of gear. If you want to go deeper into offshore judgment, storm tactics, and real-world seamanship, my book Be The Captain was written for exactly that purpose. Book: https://bethecaptain.com

#boatfoolssailing #sailing #pocketcruiser Is This the PERFECT Pocket Cruiser? $8,000 Mint Bayfield 25 Sailboat | Full Tour On a blustery winter day in coastal Maine, with temperatures hovering around 15°F, I took a solo ferry trip to Islesboro to inspect what may be one of the best pocket cruiser sailboat finds under $10,000 — a 1986 Bayfield 25 that’s been in indoor storage since 2018. This Bayfield 25 is being sold by an estate, with an asking price of $8,000, and aside from the unknown condition of the Yanmar diesel, the boat appears to be a genuine time capsule — clean, original, and remarkably well preserved. Unfortunately, Canadian Ken and Captain Q (Captain Kew) couldn’t make this one, making it a true solo BoatFools mission: winter ferry schedules, cold decks, and a classic little cruiser hiding on a Maine island. In this video, I do a full walk-through and honest review of the Bayfield 25, covering condition, layout, design, performance, value, and what to watch out for before buying. CHAPTERS: 00:00 About to Open The Hatch! 00:33 Intro - On The Islesboro Ferry 02:15 Islesboro Marine - Intro to Bayfield 25 03:25 Keel, Rudder, Prop, and Hull 06:16 Going Up On Deck 06:30 The Cockpit 09:50 Going Forward to the Bow 15:40 Heading Below Deck! 18:09 The Galley 19:14 V-Berth and Head 21:47 The Engine - Incredible Access! 24:13 Final Thoughts TO CONTACT THE SELLER PLEASE EMAIL: baconmcgravy@gmail.com Link to the Mabel book: https://www.amazon.com/Mabel-Takes-Ferry-Emily-Chetkowski/dp/188015837X/ref=sr_1_1?crid=25OUMGGIRWCWV&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.kOnR-72Pi4qG2MYHhSi4gg.oDncfM1nWs26GAMInIBKnfrCIBOCGyGXbL9RqHqwb1w&dib_tag=se&keywords=mabel+takes+the+ferry&qid=1765575624&sprefix=mabel+takes+the+ferry%2Caps%2C393&sr=8-1 Why the Bayfield 25 Has a Loyal Following The Bayfield 25 is a beloved Canadian-built pocket cruiser designed by Ted Gozzard, known for its: Full keel stability and forgiving handling Shoal draft ideal for Maine and thin coastal waters Classic clipper bow with bowsprit Surprisingly roomy interior with near standing headroom This is a true classic plastic — simple, solid, and honest. - Bayfield 25 Specifications LOA: 25.0 ft (≈24 ft without bowsprit) LWL: 19.67 ft Beam: 8.0 ft Draft: 2.92 ft (shoal draft) Displacement: ~3,500 lbs Ballast: ~1,300 lbs Rig: Masthead sloop Keel: Full long keel Construction: Fiberglass hull with teak trim -Engine Typically fitted with a small inboard diesel This vessel appears equipped with a Yanmar Engine condition currently unknown — a survey is strongly recommended - Interior & Accommodations For a 25-footer, the Bayfield 25 makes smart use of space: V-berth forward Twin main-cabin settee berths Enclosed head to port Compact galley with alcohol stove and icebox Nearly 6 feet of headroom, rare at this size -Performance & Handling Extremely stable and predictable in rough conditions Tracks straight thanks to the full keel Not a racer — prefers a bit of wind Theoretical hull speed: ~5.9 knots Pros: solid construction, shoal draft, headroom, seaworthiness Cons: small cockpit, limited tankage, short waterline in light air - Value & Takeaway Bayfield 25s typically sell in the $8,000–$15,000 range, depending on condition. Finding one in this level of preservation — on an island, in winter, at the low end of the price range — raises a lot of interesting questions about value. Think of this episode as both a boat tour and a practical lesson in how to assess a small cruising sailboat. If you’re shopping for a pocket cruiser, a shoal-draft Maine cruiser, or a classic sailboat under $10,000, this is one you’ll want to see. - Drop your thoughts in the comments — would you take the winter ferry for a boat like this? And as always… get a survey. See you next time! -BoatFools Sailing Team

When heavy equipment meets tight clearances, things get interesting fast. This episode is one of those moments where everything slows down, everyone’s watching closely, and every single inch matters. We’re getting our diesel hybrid engine off the ground and into the cockpit — which sounds straightforward, until you remember we’re working with tight clearances, heavy equipment, and zero room for mistakes. What you’ll see here is a lot of planning, a lot of problem-solving, and a reminder that with a catamaran… even installing a single engine often means doing things twice. It’s one of those behind-the-scenes projects that really shows how much coordination goes into moving something this big without damaging the boat we’ve spent years building. After this huge moment of stress, we move back indoors to the ease of conduit.  Ease of emotions that is, because fitting myself back into some of these cupboards to glass still requires a little training in gymnastics. But after getting these holes in our bulkheads sanded down and glasses, soon I'll be able to go back to my favorite task of fairing and priming. In the *next* episode, things get even more exciting as we bring the engine inside the boat and start maneuvering it into its final home in the aft guest berth — a huge step toward this system actually becoming part of the boat. As always, thank you so much for being here and supporting us. Your encouragement, comments, and backing truly make moments like this possible, and we’re incredibly grateful to have you along for the ride. 💙⚓️

Six days into our Atlantic crossing, the ocean is finally starting to show its teeth. The crew is back together—Brett, Ayanna, Jade, Dingo, and Penny—and we’re settling into the long middle stretch of life at sea. Days blur together with watches, editing, cooking, small routines, and the constant motion of the boat. At night, the water glows with bioluminescence. Behind us, the stars are coming back as we move farther from Saharan dust drifting off Africa. But conditions are changing. The wind has built past 20 knots, speeds are climbing, and forecasts show larger seas ahead—15 feet and beyond. With the boat starting to roll more aggressively, this will likely be our last video for a short while as we shift focus fully to sailing and safety. If uploads pause, everything is okay. We’ll continue sharing updates through our PredictWind tracker (linked below), and we have a full safety team monitoring our progress. As soon as the seas settle, we’ll get the videos out. With a break in the weather, it’s finally time to cast off from La Ciotat and continue our voyage west along the French coast. It’s a very early start for us—alarms ringing before 4am—before settling in for a 14-hour passage toward a small marina in Carnon. It may not be classic Instagram territory, but Carnon turns out to be a hidden gem: a calm, protected berth, friendly locals, and cafés and ice creams just steps from Helios. Exactly what tired sailors need after a long day at sea. The next morning, we head out for a celebratory breakfast for Richard’s birthday before pointing Helios toward the famous Cap d’Agde—known worldwide for its huge nudist village and sprawling beach. For us, though, it’s another fantastic marina stopover with all the chandleries we’ve been hoping for. And perhaps… a little visit to the village? That’s for next week. Join us for long passages, quiet discoveries, sailor comforts, and another chapter in our journey west aboard Helios. This week's episode is the true story of how our friends, a sailing family aboard 'Arco Iris' became shipwrecked on the remote island of Ilha dos Lençois, just a day after we had successfully navigated the same river system. They lost their home, their boat and nearly everything they owned. Showing remarkable resilience they managed to escape the island of Lençois aboard an open top catamaran by bartering what they could salvage from the wreck. The Catamaran delivered them, soaked and salty, to the mainland, where they exchanged their $25 000 salvaged water maker, for a 500 mile ride in the back of a ute to reach the safety of our floating home in Belem. Orcas attacked and sank a sailboat near our anchorage in Portugal as we were planning to continue sail south along the coast, before our departure to Madeira. With changing plans and a lot of nervosity we start the 3-day sail to Madeira. 🛠 Subscribe for more updates from our journey as we sail from Sweden to Brazil and the Caribbean. --------------------------------------------- Hi, we’re Thomas and Petra! In late August 2020, we set sail from Sweden on our first big adventure – a year-long journey to the Caribbean and back. Fast forward to October 2023, we took the plunge again and bought a Wasa 530, a sailboat that had been sitting idle for over 15 years. She was in need of some serious TLC, and we started the mission of transforming her into the ultimate blue water cruiser! On our channel, you’ll follow every step of this exciting journey – from boat renovations to sailing adventures. We post new videos bi-weekly on Saturdays, so subscribe and join us as we bring this beauty back to life! ⛵️More about our boat, Anne-Mon II: http://sailingannemon.com/about/the-boat-anne-mon-ii/ 📷 Follow us on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sailingannemon/ 🛠️Watch our refit journey playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHgGaw1dpS5_VjMQI7M9VAgMQJ5zlaB4C&si=d6AFysVKD-G6_vsh 🌎 Check out our first sailing adventure playlist: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLHgGaw1dpS5_R9PXdy23vIX9IwvPsliTP&si=aJirDjtIELIxwxhb 💻 Learn about our first boat and adventures: http://sailingannemon.com/

Sometimes you just need a breather. We paused at Black Point for a Practical Sailor interview, then pushed on to Big Farmers to tackle overdue cleaning and soak up some peace. In this episode of Sailing Dark Angel we beat our way down toward Big Farmers Cay, with a stop in Black Point where Tim from Practical Sailor sat us down to talk about the lightning strike, life in the Bahamas, and this whole crazy journey. Once we made it south it was back to cleaning and repairs, and I slipped in for a dive with a stand-offish stingray before settling into the beauty around us. Our goal is to complete a circumnavigation, or at least half of one, and we recently transitioned to a performance catamaran and are madly in love with our Outremer 52, AWEN. We worked with Outremer in France to launch our boat project and start our journey as sailing vagabonds. While it’s not a race or speed test, we are doing another Bluewater crossing this year and we are excited to see AWEN exercise her legs once more. Join us as we share what we’re learning and attempt this new life of travel and adventure on the ocean. Please be patient with us as we continue to improve our YouTube vlogging skills.
