Today our amazing hosts Lourenço and Luisa guided us through what Team Racing is! A super fun and tactical format featuring 2 vs 2 mixed teams — one boy and one girl representing each nation. The XXXVI Portuguese Junior and Absolute Sailing Championship brought together the new generation of Portuguese sailors in Vilamoura for four days of intense racing, team spirit, and unforgettable moments on and off the water. With over 200 athletes, 167 boats, and 25 coaches, the competition featured eight classes – Wing Foil, iQFoil, ILCA 7, ILCA 6, ILCA 4, Hansa 303, 420, and 29er – showcasing the diversity and talent of national sailing. This edition also marked a historic milestone: for the first time, Portuguese crews competed in the 29er class, a significant step in the growth of youth sailing in Portugal. During the XXXVI Portuguese Junior and Absolute Sailing Championship, we had the honor of welcoming Portuguese Olympic windsurfer João Rodrigues, who made history by competing in seven consecutive Olympic Games: Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996, Sydney 2000, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012, and Rio de Janeiro 2016. A mechanical engineer and current Ambassador of the National Project for Ethics in Sport, João Rodrigues delivered an inspiring talk to young sailors, highlighting the importance of ethics and values in sports as an essential part of every athlete’s journey.
