The fifth video covers the first part of the 4th leg of our long journey. Was our advanced wx forecast accurate? What wx did we really have and was it expected? We are using PredictWind.com new Departure Tool to help us sail in good conditions during our sailing passages from Philippines to Tahiti, with Bob McDavitt as extra ace before long & crucial passages. On our way from Noro in the Solomons, we traveled across all of the Solomons to check out of Lata. From there we sailed direct to Santo to clear in as Sola was not open for check-ins. We had to be very patient in Santo to get ok conditions to sail to Port Vila. Filmed in May to November 2025. Next video will cover leg 5 from Vanuatu to Tonga.

Liapari was probably the hub for visiting yachts in the Solomons for about 20 years. Alas the place felt apart in 2021 when the owner/manager passed away and ownership disputes went to court! Looking at the location, one would easily imagine why this place attracted a successful marina and boatyard. Who knows what the future will bring! Since then, the new Solomons sailing hub is being built in Noro. Filmed in May 2025.

Fishing, Surfing and Snorkeling are 3 activities in the area. Starbeach lodge offers 10 rooms as accommodation and local fresh food restaurant s well as tours. Situated in a great natural harbor, Start Harbor is a great stop-over for sailing yachts as the local community is very welcoming and Alfred Murray and his team also offer marine services like sail repairs and hull cleaning. Conveniently located, for boats heading East to Lata. Contact details at the end of the video. Filmed in September 2025

Speaking with the band before the show, I could immediately feel that the band was really passionate by their performances. As U2 will soon celebrate their 50 years together as a band, their best tribute band has also performing together for many years! Peter (The Edge) started the band in 2003 and Dave (Adam) joined him at the very beginning. You can see the efforts in minute details, like mannerism & clothing to re-create U2 live concerts! Well done, guys! So if you ever get the chance to see a live-show of this top performing tribute band, you will be in for a treat! Every year, they create a new show, so for one, will be on the lookout for one of their international shows! A personal note about the show: it was great to be able to sit comfortably in an indoor theater, be near the stage so you can see the artists well enough and to have the sound not set way too loud … 3+ over open air shows!

Using satellite charts has the great advantage of better position accuracy over many traditional marine electronic (or paper) charts and they normally do not have un-surveyed less traveled areas on the ocean like electronic charts have sometimes. BUT it could be a grave mistake to believe that all obstructions are showing up on satellite charts. As you will see in this video of a blind breaker in Papua New Guinea, near Manus Island. Filmed in February 2025.

This small village in the north part of Duke of York island attract visitors by 2 small Japanese tanks sunk in just 8m of water during WWII right in front of the nearby cliffs. Jack, one of the locals show us around and Luc offered to fix electrical things to the villagers … was able to give elementary electrical instructions on how to test and replace batteries in cheap Chinese solar lights. Filmed in March 2025.
