⛵️ We continue our sailing on the East Coast of Sweden and we use PredictWind Professional for our route planning. In this episode, we begin in Borgholm on the beautiful island of Öland. We explore the town, visit the ruins of Borgholm Castle, and take a bike ride through the meadows — and have a look at traditional Swedish Midsummer food. Then it’s time to plan our next passage. We show how we use PredictWind to check weather, routing, and local wind patterns before setting sail. We cast off, set the sails, and continue south — ending by sailing under the impressive Öland Bridge, which was Europe’s longest bridge when it was built in 1972, connecting the island to the mainland. During the sailing season we are filming lots, but editing we save for rainy days or winter downtime—so episodes will come out a bit less regularly. 📸 For real-time updates, follow us on Instagram: @bushpointsailing ⚓️ Thanks for watching! ⛵️ Welcome aboard Bushpoint Sailing! Precision under pressure, it’s the day after infusion day for the Dazcat 1500. Join Dan and Brendan as they take you through the products, techniques, and final checks that make this stage one of the most critical in composite boatbuilding. From selecting the right resins, core materials, and reinforcement fabrics to managing vacuum integrity, flow media layout, and resin feed lines, they break down the details that ensure a flawless infusion. Watch as preparation, precision, and experience come together to create a strong, lightweight, high-performance hull.
Infusing the boat in a vacuum-sealed bag is one of the most critical and precise stages of the composite build process. This timelapse takes you behind the scenes as we prepare the mould for infusion, a stage that determines the strength, weight, and finish of the final structure. You’ll see how we lay down multiple layers of reinforcement, peel ply, flow media, and resin feed lines before sealing the entire mould under vacuum. Every joint, tape, and fitting is carefully checked for leaks to ensure a perfect vacuum draw. The goal is even resin distribution and complete fibre wet-out resulting in a strong, lightweight laminate with minimal voids. This is where craftsmanship meets engineering combining advanced materials, careful planning, and years of experience to deliver a flawless infusion. Watch the next in the series to hear from Brendan (Director and Projects Manager) and Dan (Workshop Manager) how this is achieved.
Watch the DSA Dazcat 1500 take shape in this timelapse journey - from the very start of the build through to the completion of the plugs and moulds as they roll out of the shed. A rare behind-the-scenes look at how precision design and skilled craftsmanship come together to launch the foundation of this innovative accessible catamaran. #Dazcat1500 #Catamaran #Timelapse #BoatBuilding #AccessibleCatamaran #YachtDesign #CompositeBoatBuilding #Multihull #SailingInnovation #AccessibleCruising
Building the DSA Dazcat 1500 | From Plug to Mould with Scott Bader Join us behind the scenes at the Multihull Centre in Cornwall for an exclusive look at the build of the brand-new Disabled Sailors Association (DSA) Dazcat 1500. In this video, Director & Project Manager Brendan Seward and Workshop Manager Dan Baker take you through the fascinating process — starting from the very beginning with MDF plug forms, through to the moment when the moulds are finally ready to "pop." With Scott Bader proudly sponsoring the project and supplying the essential resins and epoxies, every stage of this build combines innovation, strength, and purpose. The DSA Dazcat 1500 isn’t ‘just’ another high-performance catamaran: it’s being built to open up the joy of sailing to people of all abilities. Discover: • How the plug forms are created from MDF • The materials and techniques at each stage of the build • Why Scott Bader’s resins and vinylesters are so vital • Insights from the team making it all happen The DSA has already introduced more than 50,000 people to the benefits of sailing, and this new Dazcat 1500 will carry that mission far into the future. Follow along as superb sailing, accessibility, purpose and Dazcat Principles come together in one remarkable boat. #DSADazcat1500 #DisabledSailing #ScottBader #Dazcat #Boatbuilding #AccessibleSailing #cornwall
DSA Dazcat 1500 Build – Part 2 | Popping the Moulds After months of meticulous preparation (see Part 1 of the build series), the big moment has finally arrived: popping the moulds! This stage is one of the most nerve-wracking parts of the build. The team must carefully, and sometimes what appears to be a little brutally, release the moulds from the plugs. It’s the ultimate test of whether all that shaping, filling, fairing, laminating, and finishing has truly paid off. Join the crew at the Multihull Centre in Cornwall as they hold their breath and set the moulds free, revealing the forms that will shape the DSA Dazcat 1500. With Scott Bader’s resins and epoxies at the core of the build, strength and precision are key. This is where months of planning and hard graft finally show their worth. In this episode you’ll see: • The intense process of releasing moulds from plugs • Why this step is both nail-biting and exhilarating • Reactions from the build team as the results are revealed • Another milestone in creating an accessible, high-performance Dazcat The Disabled Sailors Association (DSA) has already given over 50,000 people the chance to experience the freedom of sailing. With the Dazcat 1500, that mission is about to set sail into the future. #DSADazcat1500 #AccessibleSailing #ScottBader #dazcat #boatbuilding #cornwall

The Allen factory, based in Southminster, Essex in the UK, makes many of the deck hardware and fittings that we use in our sailing, be that on dinghies or keelboats. The team are constantly innovating - designing new products, trying out cutting-edge manufacturing techniques - all with the aim of making our time on the water more enjoyable. On my tour around the factory with Ben Harden I met a passionate and dedicated workforce using a range of machinery, from the traditional to the latest in CNC machining and 3D printing. The team also support grass roots sailing, and I took a look at how they were helping Otter Week at nearby Burnham-on-Crouch. There were a few surprises along the way as well. For example, did you know that Allen made masts? They also work with the stuntman industry! Enjoy this look around, seeing how some very familiar fittings are produced, as well as some you may not have seen. #sailing #manufacturing #rigging #yachting

In this episode of Sailing and Cruising the East Coast of the United States, host Bela Musits continues his sailing journey with fellow sailor and boat owner Mike Malekoff aboard Mike’s Hunter 44 Deck Salon. Recorded during their trip from Brunswick, Georgia to Burlington, Vermont, this conversation captures the unique challenges and experiences of sailing the Hudson River and preparing for entry into Lake Champlain. Their stop at Hop-O-Nose Marina in Catskill, New York sets the stage for one of the most important milestones of the voyage—taking down the mast. While Bela jokingly describes the marina as “modern, clean, spit-and-span” with a healthy dose of sarcasm, the real reason for the stop is all business. The marina is known for its crane services, making it one of the few places along the Hudson where cruisers can safely unstep a mast before entering the Erie or Champlain Canal. Mike explains why this is necessary: the bridge clearances to Lake Champlain are very restricted at 17 feet. This leaves sailors and many power boaters no choice but to take the mast down or lower their “air draft”. Bela and Mike talk through this process, sharing insights about preparation, marina logistics, and the sometimes nerve-wracking reality of lowering such a large spar from a cruising sailboat. Listeners get a firsthand account of what it’s like to deal with this challenge—how boaters coordinate with marina staff, handle rigging, and secure the mast for safe travel. For those planning their own journeys up the Hudson River or through the Champlain or Erie Canal system, this episode provides valuable perspective and practical tips. Beyond the technical side, Bela and Mike reflect on the journey itself. Sailing from Georgia all the way north has already provided them with countless stories, but entering Catskill represents a turning point. It’s a reminder that cruising isn’t just about open-water sailing; it’s also about adapting to inland waterways, marinas, and infrastructure. The camaraderie between sailors, the quirks of small-town stops, and the satisfaction of tackling each obstacle together all shine through in this conversation. For sailing enthusiasts, especially those curious about the Hudson River, Catskill marinas, mast stepping and unstepping, or cruising toward Lake Champlain, this episode is a must-listen. Bela and Mike’s humor and storytelling make the technical aspects approachable, while their real-world experiences highlight the rewards and challenges of long-distance cruising on the East Coast. Whether you’re planning your own trip up the Hudson, dreaming of exploring Lake Champlain by sailboat, or just love hearing about the realities of life aboard a Hunter 44 Deck Salon, you’ll find both inspiration and practical knowledge here. Key Topics Covered in This Episode: Why sailors must take down their mast before entering the Champlain Canal. The role of Hop-O-Nose Marina in Catskill, NY, for mast services. Insights into bridge clearances and challenges of inland waterways. Tips for preparing your sailboat and working with marina crews. Reflections on the journey from Georgia to Vermont aboard a Hunter 44. Humor, camaraderie, and lessons learned along the Hudson River. Join Bela and Mike as they share another chapter in their adventure sailing and cruising the East Coast. Their blend of technical insight, storytelling, and humor makes this episode not just informative but thoroughly entertaining.
