We're discussing a peculiar squeaky belt issue we encountered with our marine alternator on the sailboat Eoti. What started as a simple noise led to a deeper dive into engine repair. This video details our process of diagnosing and fixing the fan belt squeal, which turned out to be more involved than anticipated. Today was sad as we left our buddy boat (our adult twin sons) behind in Titusville, where they are looking for jobs and doing some boat projects. It was a pretty easy day cruising in the warmth, but the next few days should bring a chance of the weather turning very cold for at least a few days. S16

I wanted to talk a little bit about the navigation systems we use. I keep it to just the electronic tools today. This is a quick overview of how components are interconnected. We'll go into more depth on how all of this is tied together in the future. S13

We just took Eoti from Daytona Beach to Titusville, navigating the Florida coastline and observing local wildlife. We saw dolphins, raccoons, deer, and so many different deer that it was hilarious. Entering Daytona, we saw a 4-foot shark breach fully out of the water. This journey highlights the beauty of the ICW and the challenges of sailing in various conditions, including future port options such as the Bahamas. Join us for more of our travel experiences and sailing lifestyle. S12

Want to see how to get out of the marina without hitting your neighbors? Last year, we got a video of us leaving the marina at Ft. Pierce, thanks to our friends on Ingenuity, Heidi, and Franny. We use a back-and-fill method along with our bow thruster to move Eoti sideways. Using the different means of propulsion, like engine, engine against rudder, bow thruster, working in tandem, and working in opposition, we can maneuver in tight places, get off the dock, and get clearance quickly. We can also spin Eoti in place fairly easily. All music licensed through Epidemic Sound.

Two 20-something males came aboard EOTI last night. They opened the enclosure to enter the cockpit and were rummaging around when I challenged them. They were starting to come down below where my wife and I were sleeping (it'd been a long day, and well, people sleep in their homes).

The days are shorter, the options for marinas shrink as some don't have winter hours, and the distances determine a lot of what you can actually accomplish. We talk a bit about that here, and how we used currents, tides, and more to make a run from George Town (Wynah Bay) to Charleston much faster than normal. The folks at the Boat Galley asked on their social media if people liked winter cruising. A question with lots of nuance. The Christmas winds or early winter storms create very short windows to get south on the Atlantic. Often shorter than the time required between safe ports, and almost never aligned well with daylight, we can get very complex when you add in the tidal requirements to enter some inlets, as they can have several knots of current. In general, though, we like it because no crowds, everything is available, and a few more things we'll talk about later. All music licensed through Epidemic Sound. S07

A bit of a cold and gray day on the ICW. With no heat in the cockpit and the generator broken, no recycled heaters, we're just kind of working our way south as best we can. An early morning up and going before sunrise ends long before sunset. We reflect on the decision of whether to get off the dock. Sometimes it is a much better idea to not leave than to take a chance.

Traveling on the ICW changes by the hour. You can be open bays and then in canals where there is no wind. There are so few places you can see so much of America and really understand the off-the-beaten-path aspect of the waterways of the ICW. A friend once told me the ICW is the back roads of America's waterways. One thing it is not is boring. We really enjoy watching the world slide by, but there is always the call of the open ocean, and we feel it pretty strongly. All music licensed through Epidemic Sound

Today, we're talking about the many compromises and challenges that come with "sailing" and the "boat life." Living on a sailboat as a "liveaboard" can lead to "unexpected expenses" and frequent "boat repair" needs. This video covers the importance of "systems design" and being "financially prepared" for the realities of life on the water. We dive into how we've set up our systems to make our boat the most comfortable place we've ever been, and discuss current issues with our Panda generator. #boatprojects #sailboat #boatrepairs #motivation Short 02. Today, we are waiting on parts at Dowry Creek Marina, so we are knocking out a few projects. This one is a simple swap of the accumulator tank. How did we know it had failed? When I tried to add air, water pushed out of the bladder. That tells you the tank is done. On our 2000 Moody 46 we have spent the refit trying to set things up so you can replace common parts without digging for a toolbox. For this tank replacement, you only need a Phillips screwdriver. #sailinglife #liveaboard #sailboats #cruisinglife #marinalife #boatprojects #moody46 #dowrycreekmarina #sailingcouple #boatrepairs All music licensed through Epidemic Sound
