For 25 years, the Disabled Sailor's Association boat, Spirit of Scott Bader, has opened the door to the sea for thousands of disabled children, adults, families and carers, offering freedom, confidence, teamwork and pure joy under sail to people of all abilities. This video shows what that looks like in real life: first smiles, spray on faces, wind in hair, and moments that stay with people forever. But after a quarter of a century of tireless service, working with charities and government organisations across the country as well as private individuals and groups, Spirit of Scott Bader is reaching the limits of the demands placed on her. To keep taking disabled sailors out on the water, and to reach even more people, DSA now needs support to build a new, purpose-designed, accessible boat. And they have chosen a Dazcat. Traverser le Gulf Stream est une étape incontournable et la dernière entre nous et notre objectif de voyage, les Bahamas. Après avoir rempli le bateau on décide de passer par la mer pour s'éviter bon nombre de ponts à faire lever et surtout la navigation à moteur dans l'intracostal. Les vents de l'Ouest et du Nord nous permettent de faire le voyage sans s'arrêter à West Palm Beach, dans une traversée magnifique des eaux profondes du Gulf Stream aux eaux cristallines des Berry Islands. Quel accomplissement pour nous d'arriver enfin à notre destination, après plus de 5000km parcourus. Il faut cependant bien préparer ces navigations et choisir des vents favorables. De forts vents avec une composante Est feront levée de la houle venant de loin. Les vents du Nord pour traverser le Gulf Stream feront de la vague pointue contre le courant constant d'environ 3 kn qui vient du Sud. Lorsqu'on décide de traverser le Gulf Stream comme nous l'avons fait avec une composante de vent du Nord, c'est bien car on peut viser une traversée à 90 degré qui ne nous remonte pas trop vers le Nord. Avec des vents de plus 15 kn venant du Nord, la mer est définitivement plus sportive. Ce qui est souvent recommandé et plus facile est de descendre plus au Sud de la Floride, attendre peu de vent ou un vent du Sud pour remonter vers Bimini ou Cat Island. Mais nous étions impatients de rejoindre les Bahamas ;-) Il y a plusieurs ports d'entrées aux Bahamas. Nous avons choisi les Berry Island car nous voulions amorcer nos vacances à cet endroit. Il faut savoir qu'à Chubb Cay, c'est un port privé et qu'il nous a fallu payer des frais assez salés pour s'accoster et dédouaner. Beim zweiten Anlauf stehen plötzlich alle Blicke auf uns: Unter großer Anteilnahme der Stegbesucher gelingt das Manöver schließlich sauber und wird mit Standing Ovations belohnt. Anschließend folgt eine rasante Fahrt entlang der Küste nach St. Augustine, der ältesten Stadt der USA. In der Dämmerung suchen wir die schmale Einfahrt zwischen brechenden Wellen und flachen Stellen, volle Konzentration ist gefragt. In this episode we leave Cagliari on Sardinia and start a New Sailing Season cruising in Italy but before we can let go of the lines we need to do a trip back to Gotland and finish off our solarpanelproject. We left Cagliari a sunny day and got a great sail to Porto Corallo on the east coast of Sardinia and we try to give you the same sunny laidback feeling with long 4k sailing clip where you hear the water sizzling around the hull and the subtle squeaking off the lines. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager.
