In this episode, workshop manager Dan takes us through the final checks before infusing the Dazcat 1500 hull, one of the most crucial stages of the composite build process. You’ll see how every detail is carefully inspected before the resin starts to flow: Checking for air leaks to ensure a perfect vacuum seal Fusing the mould sections together for a seamless, strong, watertight structure Explaining each layer of the layup, including core materials, reinforcement fabrics, peel ply, flow mesh, and resin feed lines And finally, the moment of truth, as the resin is infused smoothly through the laminate This behind-the-scenes look shows the precision and teamwork that go into every Dazcat build. It’s where engineering, experience, and craftsmanship combine to create lightweight, high-performance multihulls built to last. Precision under pressure, it’s the day after infusion day for the Dazcat 1500. Join Dan and Brendan as they take you through the products, techniques, and final checks that make this stage one of the most critical in composite boatbuilding. From selecting the right resins, core materials, and reinforcement fabrics to managing vacuum integrity, flow media layout, and resin feed lines, they break down the details that ensure a flawless infusion. Watch as preparation, precision, and experience come together to create a strong, lightweight, high-performance hull.
Infusing the boat in a vacuum-sealed bag is one of the most critical and precise stages of the composite build process. This timelapse takes you behind the scenes as we prepare the mould for infusion, a stage that determines the strength, weight, and finish of the final structure. You’ll see how we lay down multiple layers of reinforcement, peel ply, flow media, and resin feed lines before sealing the entire mould under vacuum. Every joint, tape, and fitting is carefully checked for leaks to ensure a perfect vacuum draw. The goal is even resin distribution and complete fibre wet-out resulting in a strong, lightweight laminate with minimal voids. This is where craftsmanship meets engineering combining advanced materials, careful planning, and years of experience to deliver a flawless infusion. Watch the next in the series to hear from Brendan (Director and Projects Manager) and Dan (Workshop Manager) how this is achieved.

DSA Dazcat 1500 Build – Part 2 | Popping the Moulds After months of meticulous preparation (see Part 1 of the build series), the big moment has finally arrived: popping the moulds! This stage is one of the most nerve-wracking parts of the build. The team must carefully, and sometimes what appears to be a little brutally, release the moulds from the plugs. It’s the ultimate test of whether all that shaping, filling, fairing, laminating, and finishing has truly paid off. Join the crew at the Multihull Centre in Cornwall as they hold their breath and set the moulds free, revealing the forms that will shape the DSA Dazcat 1500. With Scott Bader’s resins and epoxies at the core of the build, strength and precision are key. This is where months of planning and hard graft finally show their worth. In this episode you’ll see: • The intense process of releasing moulds from plugs • Why this step is both nail-biting and exhilarating • Reactions from the build team as the results are revealed • Another milestone in creating an accessible, high-performance Dazcat The Disabled Sailors Association (DSA) has already given over 50,000 people the chance to experience the freedom of sailing. With the Dazcat 1500, that mission is about to set sail into the future. #DSADazcat1500 #AccessibleSailing #ScottBader #dazcat #boatbuilding #cornwall
A first cruise is always memorable but taking the helm of Dazcat 10 Belladonna to the Isles of Scilly made it unforgettable. Join us on Dazcat 10 Belladonna’s very first cruise with her new co-owner (me, Dazcat Media!) as we sail to the beautiful Isles of Scilly. Until now, my only time on board had been during races with my co-owner Will R, so this was my first real chance to take command, learn her systems, and find out what Belladonna is really like to handle and when passage making. Nervous? Absolutely. But sometimes the best way to learn is just to go for it… even if that means a night passage across the Celtic Sea! We weren’t sailing alone: Dazzle, Nemo, and other friends from the Multihull Centre were also heading west, with Belladonna’s former owner and our @themultihullcentre Multihull Centre yard manager close by if I ran into trouble (which, yes, I did - cue a low-battery panic and a crash course in starting up the generator mid-passage!). The Isles of Scilly turned out to be paradise: sunshine, dolphins, great company, and, best of all, a surprise gathering of 11 Multihull Centre boats, including six Dazcats, for a beach BBQ and bonfire. What started as a nervous first outing became an unforgettable reminder of the amazing community that surrounds these boats. On board with me were: Will L., a hugely experienced multihull sailor and the perfect calm presence. Poppy, our enthusiastic and practical young yard hand, new to multihulls but an absolute star crew. This cruise was the start of a new chapter with Belladonna, and I’m already looking forward to the next adventure with her.
For those with a passion for performance, adventure, and belonging, Dazcats represent more than just a yacht: they are an invitation to be part of something extraordinary.
It begins with a dream that then becomes a line on the Solent. The sails rise. The guns fire. The adventure unfolds. Fastnet 2025 was the largest multihull fleet in history - seven Dazcats among them. All successful in their achievement of the course and enjoyment. One winner. 🏆 Minor Swing - 1st MOCRA under 50ft 🥈 Hissy Fit - 2nd MOCRA under 50ft It's about more than results though, it’s about the community. A way of sailing, of racing. A way of life. This film captures the drama of the start off Cowes. But it’s only the beginning - more race media is coming, taking you inside the boats, the competition, and the people who make this community what it is. Watch the exhilarating race start from on board Dazcat 1495 Hissy Fit... For more about Dazcats visit our website www.dazcat.com. For more about our yard services: multihullcentre.com
Would you buy a performance catamaran (almost) sight unseen… and sail her 6,000 miles home? This new Dazcat 1495 owner did exactly that - flying to South Africa, stepping aboard for the first time, and setting off across the Atlantic to the Caribbean, doing a 600 mile race and then on to Canada. Discover why experienced offshore sailors say Dazcats are the best-built multihulls on the market, why secondhand models are so rare, and what it’s like to join an exclusive community of owners who race, cruise, and share their expertise. If you’re searching for a fast, strong, and proven bluewater multihull, new or pre-owned, this is why your next boat should be a Dazcat. Welcome to the Royal Western Yacht Club’s Triangle Race - quite possibly our favourite event of the year. Why? Because it kicks off the season with a brilliant cocktail of unpredictable sailing and even more unpredictable socialising between the coastal legs: Plymouth – Falmouth – Fowey – Plymouth. Throw in the MOCRA Nationals and a fast (and slow)-paced day of round-the-cans racing in Plymouth Sound, and you’ve got something properly special. This one’s for the multihull lovers. It’s a visual feast of boats in all shapes, sizes, wind speeds and angles, and a range of sea states. Of the 15 boats racing, eight (including six Dazcats) are signed up for the 2025 RORC Fastnet. Add the two Dazcats who missed this race (because they were RORC racing), and Multihull Centre boats are making up half of this year’s Fastnet MOCRA fleet. And that really is quite something! Filming comes from on board D10 Belladonna, where Dazcat Media is learning the art of media production on a smaller, livelier platform - and with just three crew, media time is often an unaffordable luxury. Just as there’s a great shot coming up, a sail needs trimming or a tack or gybe has to be put in, so it’s with huge thanks to D1495 Hissy Fit for stepping up with extra footage. And finally, massive thanks to RWYC and MOCRA for putting on the Nationals, and to our brilliant local sponsors (all of whom were either racing themselves or people from their own teams on board the different boats): PR Systems Marine Electronics, Allspars Riggers, Highwater Sails, and Multihull Centre. Music with thanks to @LandoftheGiants
There are many good reasons why the Royal Ocean Racing Club requires all boats entering the Fastnet race to complete at least 300nm of offshore racing with at least 50% of the crew including skipper. The video speaks for itself. Find out about all the RORC qualifying criteria and the history behind them on our website: https://www.multihullcentre.com/2025/06/06/the-thin-line-between-fast-or-foolish/
Just 14 hours after crossing the line on the Round Ireland Race, Dazcat 1495 'Hissy Fit' is off cruising with family and friends. Hissy Fit completed the somewhat gruelling 700++ mile offshore in 5th position over the line out of 48 starters, and 2nd in the MOCRA under 50ft class...This video is about Hissy Fit's superb cruising after the race. But just stop and consider for a moment: Hissy Fit, Simon and his friend Dan all needed to be spotlessly presentable, as fresh as possible and in full working order for the arrival of Tracey and Claire to start the cruise. They also had to celebrate with the rest of the crew before they departed. Hissy Fit's durability (no breakages during the race), ease of cleaning and low maintenance are the only things that make this possible. It's just one aspect of the Dazcat magic that you only understand if you understand - we prefer to spend more time sailing and less time fixing and cleaning our boats. Simon, director at the Multihull Centre and build oversight of Dazcats, sails his boat to test, prove and develop the design and build. He also happens to love winning races. But he and his wife Tracey also love exploring the beautiful coastlines and harbours within easy sailing reach of home and with all the home comforts on board. It's been a particularly wet and unpredictable summer but still they managed to find some gorgeous sunshine and stunning sights on the Irish southern coast and the beautiful Isles of Scilly, visiting 12 different harbours and anchorages. Wildlife, scenery and a few tips to remember both on the water and ashore. Thank you to Simon and Tracey for sharing their holiday, and to Hissy Fit for completing around 1600 nautical miles in just one month and bringing everyone home safe and happy. The adventure unfolds amidst an impressive backdrop of huge skies, massive scenery and superb commentary. It doesn’t get much more real than racing 700+nm offshore and the Dazcat teams tell it as it is. Four Dazcats, armed with GoPros, embarked on the exhilarating SSE Renewables Round Ireland Race joining a fleet of 48 boats in a high-stakes adventure. Their mission? To leave Ireland and all its islands (except Rockall) to starboard. Along the way they faced a huge variety of sea and wind conditions as the Atlantic Ocean meets the notorious waters of the Irish coast. It was nobody’s ideal conditions and of the 48 registered boats 13 retired for various reasons. Amidst the trials of the elements, the Dazcats revelled in the beauty of the Irish coastline and provided viewers with a tour guide’s perspective intermingled with heated competition, commentary on conditions at sea, sail plans and life on board. The Dazcat teams provided an intimate glimpse into their world, showcasing the boats and the passionate sailors behind them. It’s clear that Dazcat owners are in it for the thrill of the sail and all the pleasure that goes with that. All are racing their hardest, in it to win it, yet often behave more like cruising tourists than racers—one well known for its love of good food even managed to cook up a BBQ dinner mid-race, thereafter dubbed as ‘Team BBQ’. This behind-the-scenes look reveals the intensity of serious racing, accomplished with a touch of Dazcat flair. Can they really keep the boats moving in just 5 knots of breeze? What sails do they use? How do they stay safe while surfing downwind at over 20 knots? What challenges do they encounter, and how do they overcome them? How hard can you actually push a Dazcat? These questions and more are answered as the crews share their race with you. Simon, Hissy Fit’s owner, is Director at the Multihull Centre and builder of Dazcat. Pushing his boat to the limit in all conditions is Simon’s speciality so pay close attention to the builder and how he sails if you want to know more about the Dazcat principles in action. In fact, pay close attention to them all. This epic race is a testament to the spirit of adventure and the love of great sailing that defines Dazcats and their owners. Each boat brings their own story to life, making for an unforgettable race around Ireland and an up-close look at Dazcats in action.. After race quote from Foxy: We’ve been so happy and proud to be part of team Dazcat - a bunch of wonderful people sharing adventure in properly impressive boats. The way Foxy looked after us for 12+ hours in the wild and relentless Irish Sea with gusts of 36 knots was reassuring to the core. Thank you #dazcat for building such strong and amazing boats. With thanks to Royal Ocean Racing Club for organising, Wicklow Sailing Club for hosting and sponsors SSE Renewables. On May 24th and 25th, the Royal Navy Sailing Association (RNSA) race from Plymouth to St. Peter Port, Guernsey, showcased an unusual battle among four Dazcats and a Newick trimaran. Minimal winds and scattered pockets created personal ‘boosts’ for each boat in turn. Combined with challenging currents, the diverse Dazcat fleet—comprising D1495 'Hissy Fit', D1295 'Foxy', D1150 'Bare Necessities', and D995R 'Easy Tiger'—engaged in a close contest over the 80-nautical mile course. At one point it looked as though the Newick would take overall on handicap... Throughout the race positions continuously shifted among the Dazcats as they navigated the light airs, sometimes surging ahead and other times falling back. Each Dazcat, varying in age and model, demonstrated their well-matched capabilities, making for an interesting if sometimes confusing spectacle for the observer on Marine Traffic. As the fleet approached Guernsey they faced a decision: take the northern or southern route around the island. Despite the northern route appearing less favourable, 'Foxy' made a daring choice to break from the pack and head north. While her competitors inched their way ever more painfully and eventually resorted to their engines with the finish line in sight, Foxy glided across the line just before the cut-off, clinching her first victory and being the sole multihull to complete the race under sail. Team Foxy’s win is a testament to their growing confidence and strategic acumen. Although they modestly claim not to be racers, their participation and keen observations have honed their instincts and tactics, culminating in this, their first real triumph. As these same four Dazcats gear up for the SSE Renewables Round Ireland Race starting June 22nd, anticipation is high. 'Hissy Fit', known for her blistering speeds and past victories, will race with a seasoned crew. 'Foxy' continues her journey with a spirited mix of family and friends. 'Bare Necessities', last year's MOCRA champion in the AZAB race, brings a skilled and experienced team, while 'Easy Tiger' will navigate with a newer crew. Joining them will be the fresh challenger, the trimaran 'Paradox 3'. Each vessel brings unique strengths and will be hoping for conditions that favour their specifications. With the ever-changing Irish waters ahead, we can expect thrilling competition and, as always, some nail-biting sailing. Tune in to the video as Matt Baker delves into the strategic choices of sail wardrobes on different multihulls and when to deploy each, setting the stage for what promises to be a riveting race!
