The annual process of antifouling is upon us and we need to get stuck In. It's not a simple process with so many products on the market, and this stuff doesn't come cheap. I believe only now we kind of can grasp the impact of something back then was complete confusion and disbelief... But it's important. We need to make a move and head to safer waters outside the cyclone zone for the summer. We have chosen to sail to New Zealand and spend the season exploring the waters of Kris & Shona’s birthplace. Cyclone season in the South Pacific runs from the beginning of November through to the end of April. To get to out of the cyclone ‘box’ it will require leaving Vanuatu, sailing to New Caledonia and then finding the right weather window to head South to New Zealand - a passage not to be taken lightly but to be planned and calculated with respect. The Taylor's Creek anchorage is spectacular; from wild dolphins to wild horses, to croaker fish creating a racket at night in our hulls. It's the Bahamas without the crystal clear water. And, it's home country for Brown. He spent every summer down here fishing, scuba diving, and living life on the water. It holds incredible memories and the deep friendships formed 30 years ago resurfaced as strong as ever. This video is a bit of a hodgepodge of events. So much happened while we were in town and we wanted to honor all those who stopped by to say hello as well as those who drove us around, invited us to their homes, gave us free reign of their laundry room, or dropped off a bag of fresh raked clams for us. We also sated our culinary desires with a trip to Chapel Hill to see Brown's parents and to Costco. We loaded up...overloaded up, is more accurate. And, we started to realize that our electrical issue on the boat was probably a lightning strike that would not fix itself. Ah, the complexities of boat life. We had to wait around in Bimini for a few days before sailing our catamaran across the Great Bahama Bank to the Berry Islands. Once we got there we explored Great Harbor Cay and got a lesson about a Bahamas staple, conch salad. In this video, we continue our passage from Tahiti to Fiji. We fly the lightweight asymmetrical spinnaker sail. We catch a beautiful mahi mahi almost losing the reel in the process. The weather stays mostly agreeable for the rest of the passage and we get some cellular signal off of Tonga on the way by. Finally, we arrive in Savusavu Bay in Fiji and get a great escort and welcome from the Fiji Navy, who bring us fruit, beer, and pizza while we wait in the quarantine anchorage for the results of our COVID tests. Finally we get off the boat and clear arrival customs and biosecurity before getting our Blue Lane flag and cruising permit, in preparation for onward travels. Thanks for following!
