What happens when the forecasts don't come true? We find ourselves sailing in the middle of the Atlantic without really knowing what's ahead, and you guessed it, we find some red on the radar. #sailing #boat #liveaboard #weatherforecast #offthegrid So who is this crazy sailing couple? We are trying to sail around the world, West About, via Cape Horn and the Cape of Good hope. Unlike some of the other new sailing channels, we are not just some hot bodies or sexy girls in bathing suits that don't know how to sail. We are experienced racing sailors that know how to get the best performance out of a boat, navigate in extreme conditions, and have lots of fun! So, we hope we don't have too many boat fails and keep it all about a beautiful sailboat sailing at her best! This isn’t a Captain Ron movie, it’s the real deal. If it’s gonna happen, it will happen out there! Join us as we keep on trucking across the Atlantic, from St. Maarten to the Azores in this leg of our around the world circumnavigation. We quit our jobs and launched our boat in July of 2019 and have sailed over 7,000 miles so far crossing oceans. This relaxing video has us sailing in the Atlantic ocean, during our transatlantic voyage. Our weather routing has us making a straight shot, rather than over the top of low pressure systems via Bermuda. This is unconventional, but so is our trip. Our route will continue to take us in the Portuguese trades, to the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, then on to Argentina, Chile, Cape Horn, and Patagonia. This is where we really want to sail away to and escape into the purity of nature. We hope to get there, but this trip is not easy. We're on days 4 and 5 of having Ryan and Burt come to help us, and we are just knocking all kinds of projects out! After having bonded the sill on the bridge deck, we can then, finally, remove the supports from underneath the boat. What it also allows us to to is bond in the lower beam, which connects the two pieces of the bridge deck together - which was bonded back in the spring. Then there is the biggest project ahead of us - getting the transom bonded on. But before we can get that far, we need to get it in the tent first. #122 ✍️Les aléas nous ramènent à Saint-Pierre. Ce n’était pas dit que nous y revenions de sitôt, peut être lors d’un troisième tour du monde ! L’imprévu du voyage ! Nous le connaissons bien, mais finalement, on y trouve toujours son compte pour faire de nouvelles découvertes. La première, ce sont des followers qui nous en ont parlé, l’application Navily. Facile d’utilisation, ce programme donne accès à un certains nombres de fonctionnalités très utile pour choisir ses mouillages en nous donnant un tas d’informations sur nos escales. Ce qui nous amène à aller explorer un site aquatique artistique… La légende dit que la Maman Dlo est une horrible sirène qui emportait les marins au fond des abysses ! En hommage à la mer, un artiste martiniquais, Laurent Valère l’a représenté dans une gigantesque sculpture de plus de 20 tonnes. Une Ode au fond de l’océan qui défit la montagne pelée près de sa fille, Yemaya longue, elle, de 12 mètres. Le site à 30 mètres du rivage et à 6 mètres de fond devient depuis 2004, date de sa naissance, un refuge pour la faune et la flore… 30 septembre, les lumières de la ville reflètent sur l’eau placide de la rade. Pas un bruit, Saint Pierre dort encore ! Ça sent la pluie, une odeur de terre mouillée. L’air frais me fais légèrement frissonner. Nous quittons la Martinique pour quelques jours, histoire de nous changer les idées avant mon opération qui vient d’être avancée au 19. En visée, les Saintes, Marie Galante et la Guadeloupe. Presque 80 milles que mon capitaine veut faire dans la journée et si possible en arrivant de jour. Du coup, nous avons levé l’ancre de nuit, juste aux prémices d’un levant rosé. Des centaines de petits poissons effrayés s’affolent devant nos étraves. Protégés par la côte sur les premiers milles, nous restons une heure et quart au moteur avant d’envoyer grand-voile et gennack. Blacky est lancé à 7,4 nœuds dans 12 nœuds de vent vrai ! J’aime bien la formule de mon capitaine : « la mer est comme un concert orchestré », n’a-t-il pas l’âme d’un poète mon Tchoupi ! Déjà, le courant nous poussait vers l’ouest de la Dominique, c’est clair qu’avec le grain qui s’en vient, nous allons devoir passer la côte sous le vent. Impasse de cette option, c’est comme son appellation l’indique, nous nous retrouvons cachés du vent. Et contraints de subir les perturbations dues au relief, nous rallumons les moteurs en longeant cette superbe île jusqu’à sa pointe la plus nord. De là, c’est le vent qui arbitre, Les Saintes, Marie Galantes, Les Saintes, finalement, ça sera Marie Galante, en arrivée limite nocturne. Sous son air de galette, la belle aux cent moulins nous livre tous ses charmes. Et autant vous dire que la rayonnante a un grand pouvoir de séduction ! On s’en aperçoit dès les premiers pas à port Saint Louis avec ses cases colorées, ses ruelles paisibles et ses décors pittoresques. Quelques passants avec leur Salako, ce chapeau traditionnel utilisé pour servir de couvre-chef aux pêcheurs de l’île, des prêcheurs qui se rendent à l’église, un petit marché local, un air frais, des fleurs, du soleil…Et plus tard, le même soleil qui a rendu cette journée radieuse, qui se couche en fondant sur l’horizon… Le lieu idyllique pour promouvoir le nouveau téléphone que nous venons de recevoir, offert par Blackview. SAILING A CATAMARAN Newport to Annapolis Via NYC - A DREAM TRIP | Harbors Unknown Ep. 47 This week we're sailing our catamaran under the Newport bridge for the last time for the foreseeable future. Taking with us sweet memories of friends, new and old, and experiences we’ll treasure for a lifetime. But before the show we have quite a few boat projects to tackle and we’re scheduled to haul the boat in just one week. Our autopilot did not arrive in Newport as planned so we’re hand steering and will stop each night to rest. We planned to sail up Long Island Sound to the East River through New York City then make our way down to the Delaware Bay and through the C&D Canal to the Chesapeake. It's amazing to be in Panama after a 1,000 mile sail from Mexico. This is our first time in Central America and we love the "off" the beaten path vibe as well as all the amazing wild-life in this jungle environment. The first order of business is to move Calico Skies from the temporary slip we grabbed late last night into a more permanent spot. As luck would have it a powerful squall came through just as we were trying to dock the boat 😳. Luckily there was no damage...besides the Captains ego 😂 After relaxing a few days after passage at Bocas Marina it is time to grab some fresh provisions in town and head off to explore! This week we replace the wooden transom where the outboard mounts to the boat. The wood had begun to get soft and was in need of replacing. During this project, we used a variety of techniques and processes that can be useful information for many boat working projects. Part#3 of the docutainment trilogy "The Viking Route" goes from the Åland-Islands deep inside the Finnish archipelagos and in the Viking museum in Rosala. After 4 weeks of touring with my band at the Baltic coast, my journey on the old route continues to Tallinn. Here, the long and exiting way home begins and leads me through Estonia, Latvia and Gotland. On the way I found many more traces of the Vikings. The movie again shows, beside the travel itself, the emotions of a long time-out and the ingenious navigational methods and the epic mythology of the Vikings. With circumnavigator and Viking expert Burghard Pieske I could get another very interesting person in front of the camera. In the Danish National Archives, the description of this old sea route is kept like a treasure. By coincidence Claus Aktoprak got aware of this itinerary and curiosity kicked in. This document, written by monks in Latin script, is one of the oldest and exiting sources about navigating the Baltic sea. It mentions many places which together forming - mostly sheltered by skerries - a sea route along the east coast of Sweden, over the Åland-islands and Southern-Finland to Reval (todays Tallinn). This sailing route, already used by Vikings, the 40-year-old sailboat LA MER auctioned at eBay and a kayak are the ingredients of this new Baltic sea adventure from Claus Aktoprak through the dreamlike archipelagos of Scandinavia. Arrivés depuis l'Albanie, notre premier pied en Grèce se fait sur l'île de Corfou. On profite de beaux mouillages et de l'eau transparente. Paradis de la voile on retrouve enormement de bateau dans ce coin là, ca faisait longtemps. Ithaque, terre d'Ulysse, enfin nous y sommes. Moment tant attendu par Ugo: redécouvrir tout les recoins de cette île merveilleuse en scooter. Margot doit prendre un avion à Athènes le 04 Octobre. Le canal de Corinthe étant fermée on fait une halte d'une petite semaine dans un petit village ou se trouve un quai gratuit, j'ai nommé Astakos. When we settle into a beautiful anchorage and are safely secured with lines ashore the last thing we expected was to be confronted by a local day/tripper boat captain. Annoyed by the room we are taking up, he soon becomes more amiable when we begin taking pictures of him allowing his boat to drift into our shorelines! Our friends Bryn & Jill on sailing catamaran ‘Fly the Coop’ have joined us so we take off in their dinghy to experience the exceptional sunset over Gemiler Island.
