Bunutan Reef is surely the best drift dive in Bali. Although this dive site can be a shore dive, most dive centre in Bali choose to do this dive from a boat. The main reason is some less experienced divers will not be able to dive this entire reef with a single tank. So a boat dive is the best option. The dive starts on a sandy slope with a huge amount of garden eels. As the current starts to pick up, the reef also start to appear. This dive site could easily have been named Sea Fan Alley or Giant Sponge Alley. The amount of sea fans and giant sponges on this reef is remarkable. Along with the stunning coral and sponges, there are a large number of colourful reef fish too. Buckle up everyone, it’s adventure time 😉 Zach and I head up North to Llandudno for a few nights. We waste no time and head first to a blue lagoon but we seemed to have planned the trip in the stormiest time of the year so we had to scrap the hike we wanted to do. However, instead we head 10 minutes South to Dorothea Quarry- as beautiful as it was, we were made to feel quite unwelcome by some divers, as being soaking wet and cold was a little demoralising! So we decided to cheer ourselves up with a climb at the Indy Climbing gym. So much fun! Next, we head to Llandudno (where we were staying) and explore Elephant cave- and then pigeon cave (oh wait- we didn’t actually make it there- but it was for a really cool reason, you will have to watch to see why we couldn’t this day…) The next day, we wake up bright and early, brush off the slight hangover and head into Anglesey, the little island in the North West corner of Wales known for its beautiful beaches and ancient sites. We first head to Porth Wen brickworks- a remote wild spot which is a beautiful snapshot of history. We then head round to Holyhead mountain and explore South Stack and Elins tower- despite the super high winds (and steps!) this was an incredible spot and well worth the visit. Finally, we headed to Newborough Beach and Reserve. This was my personal favourite and after we walked to the end of Llandwyn island, a tidal island which is home to the church celebrating the Patron Saint of Love (pure coincidence that it was Valentine’s Day when we visited), we enjoyed a beautiful pink and purple sunset on the beach before heading back to the hotel. What a trip! It’s memories like these which we will hold so close to our hearts when we leave Wales. CAJOMA PHINISI III was constructed in 2014, a classic style of Phinisi Boat which was built by the local people using Iron Wood for base and Hard Teak Wood for upper structure. With the size 30m length and 5m width, the CAJOMA PHINISI III has two ship’s mast. The boat is equipped with 6D/16 or 6 Cylinder Mitsubishi Engine as the main engine, and two generators with 10 Kva and 7,5 Kva wattage power. Along with this Phinisi Boat, we have two speedboats that will complete and maximize our sea transfers. The boat consists of three private and air conditioned cabins which accommodate 8 people with toilets attached, the main lobby, kitchen, guide room, captain’s room, and separate crew’s area. Leisure deck is available at the front area and sundeck is on top.

We love to sail! As often as possible and we also hate to use the motor. On a small boat the engine is not way down below deck and silent, its a hot noisy beast that make tropical days nearly unbearable. Luckily we have a boat that is light and fast so that we can sail even in very light air. Sometimes its just faster to motor in a straight line if the wind is not co-operating but sometimes its just fun to tack up against the wind, its good practise, you use no fuel and you're using the boat for what it was made for. We're in Papua again, arriving in Triton Bay, a place neither of us have been before and we get right into exploring the place on our paddle boards. A dozen teams will be competing in IRC Two. Ross Applebey’s Oyster 48 Scarlet Oyster (GBR) has won class at the RORC Caribbean 600 a record six times. Carlo Falcone’s legendary Caccia Alla Volpe, skippered by Carlo’s son Rocco, with sister Shirley in an all-Antiguan crew. America’s Cup winner Shannon Falcone will be on Comanche for the race. Caccia Alla Volpe was Shannon’s first home when he sailed to Antigua as a child with his parents. Christopher Daniel's British J/121 Juno, racing for the first time in the RORC Caribbean 600, will be close competition. #Caribbean600 #RORCracing

Dmitry Rybolovlev’s ClubSwan 125 Skorpios (MON), sailed by Fernando Echavarri, and the VPLP/Verdier 100 Comanche (CAY) skippered by Mitch Booth are favourites for Monohull Line Honours. Both Maxis are very capable of beating the Monohull Race Record set in 2018 by George David’s Rambler 88 (37 hours, 41 minutes, 45 seconds). The fastest of IRC Rating Zero is the Volvo 70 L4 Trifork (DEN) sailed by Jens Dolmer, with Joern Larsen at the helm. Tactician Bouwe Bekking commented that L4 Trifork’s primary goal is to be the first Volvo 70 to finish the race. Tom Kneen’s Sunrise (GBR) swept the board in the 2021 Rolex Fastnet Race, winning the world’s biggest offshore race overall. "I have watched with envy, the fleet starting in beautiful conditions in this beautiful place for a number of years, and also I want to build on 2021. It's still sinking in that we won the Rolex Fastnet Race, and this race is the next step in the development of the project and the crew, and I'm very excited about it." - Tom Kneen, skipper of Sunrise. Jacques Pelletier’s Milon 41 L’Ange de Milon (FRA) raced to the Caribbean in the RORC Transatlantic Race, coming fifth overall under IRC. With 19 teams, IRC Zero is the largest class in the RORC Caribbean 600. The competition within the class is set to be red hot. RORC Vice Commodore Eric de Turckheim’s NMYD 54 Teasing Machine (FRA) rates lower than the pack of hot 50-footers. Teasing Machine’s tactician Laurent Pages commented that the team is really looking forward to the race against top competition. Ron Hanley’s Cookson 50 Privateer (USA), overall winner in 2013 and second overall in 2018, sailed to Antigua from Rhode Island to take part in the race. The Swedish Elliot 44 CR Matador, skippered by, Jonas Grander, finished 4th overall under IRC in the Rolex Fastnet Race. #Caribbean600 #RORCracing

With the transition to braided rather than spun ropes many sailors create issues for their next trip on the water due to the way they coil their sheets and halyards at the end of a day sailing. Traditional oval coils are great for spun rope but issues are created when using this method to store modern braided rope. When creating coils with spun rope the lay of the rope inserts turns into the rope as you create your neat ovals, this is fine in spun rope as it neutralises the natural twist which are built into the rope. This method is however a problem for braided rope where there are no twist built into the rope due to the way the weave is created. Creating coils inserts a twist into the rope, added together these can get bundled up to form kinks and knots when the rope is laid out to be used. The solution to this problem is to fold your rope. The are multiple ways to fold your rope, in each instance you will create a bundle of rope without twists which will flow freely the next time you go to use your sheets or halyards. Folding rope has some other benefits, especially for long sheets or halyards where it may be difficult to create the coils as you can not hold all the coils in one hand. Folding your rope over your shoulders or a fix object like a winch is the best way to neatly store long lengths of thick rope.
