In this episode of Sailing Chelsea, there is some very exciting news... wait for it … Ryan catches his first fish! We arrive in in Roscoff marina, France. We have had ongoing problems with our propeller and we finally find a diver who can dive down to have a look. He is surprised at what he finds but we are pleased to say the prop is now in full working order! There isn't long to celebrate though, as that afternoon we get hit by another boat. There is some damage and we then begin worrying about how long the repair would take and how far that could hold up the trip. Finnaly the circle is closed! Here is my third and last video covering my Fair Isle trip. I have got everything I came for. Ive seen Fair Isle, gotten a new drone on Shetland after the bird attack. I even got to shoot the MUckle Flugga lighthouse, the most northerly point of Shetland and even Great Brittain! Now Im reday to go home. But first... Ive always wanted to see the Out Skerries. Its the most easterly point of Shetland, and what a place! With only 30 people left living on these rocky islands, it makes it even more magical. After a couple of hours, Im again ready to cross the huge North Sea to get home to my homeport, Haugesund, Norway. A flat and calm sea made it a very long trip by motor- all the 183 NM's. While we try to keep the content light, this episode includes one of the sadder realities of what it is to be human. We have struggled with whether to include a couple of scenes, but threw caution to the wind and included them anyway. One of the most important pieces of equipment on the boat, that you are literally depending on to keep you from floating away, is your anchor and chain. Naturally, when you must link your new chain up to the anchor with a shackle, you don’t want to trust the job to just anyone. Ivan our 11year old, was the perfect fit. Just when you think you have crossed the t’s and dotted the lower-case j’s, life can serve you up a “s*@t sandwich”. My loving, caring, wonderful sister, has lived life playing by the rules, yet she has been forced to fight the heinous, dark killer, that is cancer. Watching her struggle reinforces our thoughts that you never know what is around the corner, so live life to the fullest. A big thank you to the talented artists who have allowed us to use their music. Wir machen uns von Nassau (Bahamas) aus auf, die Insel Eleuthera zu erkunden. Mit unserem Katamaran „Maverick XL“ segeln wir über Spanish Wells und die gefährliche Passage „Devils Backbone“ hindurch nach Harbour Island, weil wir gehört haben, dass es dort einen pinken Strand geben soll. Über den Current Cut geht es weiter nach Alice Town, das wir nur über eine schmale Durchfahrt in einem Felsen erreichen, kaum breiter als unser Schiff. Ein paar Buchten weiter finden wir die vollkommen verwachsenen Ruinen einer alten US-Navy-Base und einen weiteren Strand mit pinkem Sand. In Governor’s Harbour kommen wir zurück in die Zivilisation, spazieren durch einen wunderbaren kleinen Ort aus der Kolonialzeit. Titelfoto: S. Ende Mai 2018 habe ich mit Salka ein wenig die Nordsee unsicher gemacht und - mal eben - von Cuxhaven aus einen Wochenend-Törn nach Sylt unternommen. (Tuesday 19th September, Valencia) – Displaying a notable speed edge in the light 6-10kts breeze conditions Harm Müller-Spreer’s Platoon leads the 52 SUPER SERIES Valencia Sailing Week after the first two races. Although they finish the first day tied on points with Azzurra, and Platoon won the first race, it was the manner in which the German-flagged team sailed back through the fleet on the second race – coming back from a poor start, rising from 11th to finish fourth – which suggests they may prove to be the crew to beat at this final regatta of the season. Platoon are key rivals to Azzurra for second step on the circuit podium. The Italian-Argentine team, which have just a few days left in their tenure as overall champions of 2017 lie second overall behind Quantum Racing on the circuit leaderboard and have five points of a lead over third-placed Platoon. After today’s racing – ending all square between the top two teams of the day – there may be no change in that points difference between the two, but now Azzurra certainly know they have a fight on their hands, and their best form of defence against Platoon is to attack, to go out and try and win each race. There is no room for small errors on the America’s Cup race course areas, today’s 6-10kts breezes proving streaky, shifty and difficult to read. To their credit Azzurra lead off the start line of the first race, working the preferred left side of the upwind along with Platoon. But at the first windward turn, Azzurra tacked just under the lay line and slowed to get around the turn. The mistake cost them as Platoon rolled over the top of them at speed at the mark and went on to win Race 1. Circuit leaders Quantum Racing started the day with an almost certainly unassailable 31pt season’s lead, but they were on the wrong side of the first beat, dropped to 10th by the leeward turn and recovered to eighth. At their most potent after a bad result, Quantum Racing did not make the same mistake twice and started nicely off the left end of the start line along with Luna Rossa. Appropriately the two America’s Cup teams enjoyed a close head-to-head at the front of the fleet with Luna Rossa holding on to their early lead right through to the finish. Platoon got their time on distance badly wrong at the start of the second race and were left flat footed at the gun. But they took places on each leg, seemingly at will, to recover to fourth, ensuring they are the overall leaders of the regatta. Platoon’s America’s Cup winning trimmer Ross Halcrow noted: “We started behind everyone. But we kept calm and just focused and let JK (John Kostecki) do his thing. We are going pretty well in these conditions, we are well suited to the lighter breeze. And JK and Jordi (Calafat) are working really well.” Luna Rossa moved up the circuit standings to fourth today, leapfrogging Sled, which dropped to a weighty tenth in the second race, the Italian America’s Cup team scoring seven points for the day. 52 SUPER SERIES Valencia Sailing Week Regatta standings after day 1 1.
