This was originally edited for my Cruising Off Duty channel but since it is a gear review, it belongs here as well. After years of filming with the Panasonic GH4 and GH5 and investing in the Panasonic Lenses, I have finally decided to switch to Sony. I just bought the Sony A7iii and that means investing in an entirely new line of lenses. It is not cheap! The reason? WEll, I just couldn't put up with Panasonic's unreliable Autofocus anymore. To get smooth shots you often want to put your camera on a gimbal but then you are swinging the camera around and not manually focussing and that means you have to trust that your autofocus will stay in focus and nut "hunt" for focus and ruining your shots. Sony is known for amazing autofocus but that does not mean that my GH5 is going in the garbage or going to collect dust. Far from it. There are still a lot of things that the Panasonic GH5 does better than the Sonys. Watch this episode to find out more, especially if you are looking to get into DSLR style cameras for photo and video. I bought a new drone, the DJI Mavic 2 Pro, to replace my Mavic Pro in hopes of getting even more stunning 4K footage. The 3 big selling features on this new Mavic 2 Pro is the Hasselblad Camera with a 1" sensor and the Omnidirectional obstacle avoidance sensors and advanced artificial Intelligence for better autonomous flight and object tracking. The better camera with the 1" sensor should allow me to get much better photos and video in low light situations. The camera takes 20 MP stills vs 12 MP on the original Mavic Pro. The new camera can shoot in10 bit colour which should also allow for more, true to life video with its ability to capture 1 billion colours. DJI claims this new drone had an advanced AI that can track moving objects even when they pass behind other objects as it predicts where the tracked object will come out on the other side and can keep tracking it. The drone will fly autonomously to keep the object in the center of the frame and with its 6 sided omnidirectional sensors, should allow it to fly in places with a lot of trees and other obstructions and can alter it's flight path automatically to avoid each obstacle. It should be a big improvement over the older Mavic Pro and in this video, I will compare them. I will show you some 4K comparison footage from the 2 cameras and some object tracking. We are amazed how the Hobby Drone technology has changed in just a little over 2 years. When I started my Cruising Off Duty channel I was filming with the Yuneec Q500 4K, which was a good drone but was big. My friend Terry then got the Phantom 3 Pro which is a bit smaller. Then I got my new drone, the ground breaking, foldable, Mavic Pro. The Phantom 4 Pro then came along and had more sensors for safety and had a better camera than the previous drones. Then the Mavic Air came out and was an even smaller version of the Mavic Pro. Now DJI has come out with an amazingly small drone, the Tello, that is only $99 (taxes and shipping included!). It is a very stable and fun drone but it will not stand up to a windy day and comes with included prop guards, so it seems to be designed more for fun indoor flying. It is clearly not a videographer's tool, with a static mounted 720p camera, but it sure is a lot of fun to fly. Hopefully you enjoyed this episode. If so, do the channel a solid and give the video a thumbs up. It helps promote the video and the channel to other viewers. And, of course subscribe to the channel to get more great content in the future. Cheers! In this episode of Average Tech Fan, we cover two of the smaller and cheaper Powered Gimbals. A powered gimbal will help stabilize your footage if you plan to be filming while moving. Let's face it, if you are a Vlogger, all you seem to do is Run and Gun and film on the Go all the time, so a good Gimbal is a must. Otherwise your footage will look like crap as it will be all bouncy and jittery and no one want's to feel motion sickness while watching your channel. In this episode we cover the Osmo Mobile 2, which is designed to help stabilize the footage you get from a cell phone camera and the Zhiyun Crane-M which is designed to stabile smaller cameras. Although I do have a smaller Vlog Camera, the Canon G7X Mark 2, I have been able to use my full sized mirrorless camera, the Panasonic GH4, on the Crane-M. In this episode Janice and I take the two gimbals our for a walk in the forest and show the difference between the footage on the 2 gimbals and without. The difference is night and day. My favourite and best Camera setup is the Panasonic GH5 with the Metabones Speed Booster and the Sigma 18-35mm Lens with a Azden SMX30 shotgun Microphone. Just the Body alone of the GH5 is too bight for the Crane-M so clearly I needed a bigger Gimbal for that setup. So, I just bought and received the Zhiyun Crane 2 which can handle huge cameras setups up to 7lbs. That Beast will be covered in a future episode very soon, but, it is far larger than what most people who just are starting out or who only plan to Vlog will need and most can certainly have their needs met with these 2 smaller and cheaper gimbals. In this episode of Average Tech Fan we use our drone (Mavic Pro) to help with our outdoor chores. We needed to inspect damage we suspected we had on our roof. We didn't have a ladder long enough and Instead of going up on the roof, what better use could a drone have then to take detailed 4K video of every inch of our roof or anything high off the ground, without us ever needing to risk your own neck. This could be used for way more uses than just inspecting your shingles. For example, let say you are afraid of heights but want to inspect the top of your mast to see if the instruments have been damaged? What better tool than a Drone to give you that HD birds eye view? If you can only afford to spend a small amount, there are very basic drones that you can buy that have cameras that record at 720p for under $100, such as the DJI Tello. So now there is no reason not to own a drone for all those chores that would regularly require you to go up high. Hopefully you enjoyed this episode. If so give it a thumbs up. The last episode of Average Tech Fan, I went through all the cameras I use to film my Cruising Off Duty youtube channel (www.Youtube.com/CruisingOffDuty). I ranked each camera as to their value and usefulness to my production. My favourite camera is the Panasonic GH5 follow by my previous best camera, the Panasonic GH4. This video will break down all the differences between these 2 cameras. But, looking at the latest prices on Amazon.com you can pick up a GH4 for about $1,000 and you have to pay $2,000 for the GH5. Is the GH5's extra features worth twice the money? Well, it depends on if you plan to use those extra feature regularly in your video production. Most will not, so for most videographers and Youtubers that are on a budget, I think the GH4, at half the price, is the better deal and will suit their needs. This video will explain the differences between these 2 highly reviewed video cameras. Hello fellow Tech Fans! This episode covers all the different cameras I user to film my Cruising Off Duty Youtube Channel (www.Youtube.com/CruisingOffDuty) and I rate each one and tell you if it was a camera worth buying. The only "Cameras" that I don't mention here are my Drones but Drones will be covered in a separate episode. This is the first Episode of the Tech Review offshoot channel of Cruising Off Duty. I bought a Camera Slider so that I could get those silky smooth product shots. I figured that was a must for my planned first episode where I had intended to review the different cameras I use to film Cruising Off Duty. But, I tried to go cheap and it cost me. The NEEWER 47" Camera slider I got arrived with one of the 4 legs broken off. It didn't happen in shipping because it came in a very padded package. So that mean the slider left the factory with one busted leg which is not something that screams "Top Quality Product" and good "Quality Control". Needless to say I am sending it back. Luckily I bought through Amazon so returns are not a problem. Since one of the things I said I was going to do on this channel is to review tech products and give you my honest opinion of what is worth buy and what you should avoid so that you can avoid spending your hard earned money on stuff you won't like or wont use. To prove that is the case, I am going to start off not talking about Camera but showcase this product and proving the old adage "You get what you pay for". The next planned episode will be going over the cameras I use, but I now need to wait for my new 32" carbon fiber slider (hopefully in good shape this time). After that episodes will cover: Various lenses I use, powered gimbals, drones, home automation technology, smart phones and tablets and more. Hopefully you enjoy this episode. If so give it a thumbs up and subscribe for many many more tech review episodes in the near future. Cheers! Craig If you would like to read the review or check the latest prices, here are the Amazon links to the Slider I returned, the new one I ordered and the Cameras I use regularly to film my episodes. Hi, I'm Craig Bowman and you may know me from my Sailing and Travel (Vlog Style) Channel called Cruising Off Duty. In the last 18 months that I have been filming that channel, I have bought A LOT of Cameras, Gimbals, Drones, Computers and all sorts of other technology to help make that channel the very best quality that it can be. I am sure I will buy a lot more tech in the future. In the past when I bought a new camera or piece of technology, I would often make an episode on my Cruising Off Duty channel showing off the new item and how it was going to be used to make that channel even better. I realized that channel should only be about Sailing and Travel Lifestyle videos and I would create this new channel, Average Tech Fan, to showcase the Tech I have bought and the tech I plan to buy in the future. Some of the tech I have bought in the recent past I can tell you if after 3 months, 6 months etc, if it has stood the test of time and if I would suggest buying it or suggest avoiding it. When there is new Cameras, Drones or other technology coming out in the future, I will research it and tell you if it is something that I think will be something worth buying or not. When I do get new Tech, I will review it as quickly as I can on this channel. Hopefully if you are a tech fan, like I am, you will subscribe to this channel for episodes on all things Tech. New full episodes, coming up soon. See you soon, Craig
