(Thursday 20th September, Valencia) – Although it proved to be the best day of the season for Eduardo de Souza Ramos’s Brazilian crew of Onda who – as best boat of the day – sailed to a second, a first and a third from a demanding three-race day at the 52 SUPER SERIES Valencia Sailing Week, regatta leaders Luna Rossa have now stepped three points clear at the head of the event standings and the three-way scrap for the second and third step on the season-long championship podium has become ever closer. With just two days of competition left of the five-event 2018 52 SUPER SERIES season, Azzurra compromised their second place position in the championship when they landed a penalty in the third race of the day. While they dropped to a seventh place finish, the race was won by closest rivals Platoon. Harm Müller-Spreer’s German-flagged team, who finished runners up last year, load more pressure on Azzurra and the podium fight looks set to go to the wire, as it has done for the last three seasons. Azzurra now have only three points of a cushion over Platoon and eight points on the Valencia regatta leaders Luna Rossa who seem to be replicating the same form that saw them win the Zadar Royal Cup earlier in the season in very similar streaky sea breeze conditions. Platoon staged a remarkable recovery in the first race. Called over early on the line they had to return and start 11th, but they – once more – showed an almost unerring ability to work their way through the fleet and finished fourth. Even at three points behind Azzurra, Platoon’s tactician John Kostecki, who won the 34th America’s Cup on these waters along with Platoon core crew Dirk de Ridder and Ross Halcrow, insists he will not, and does not like to look at the standings. 52 SUPER SERIES Valencia Sailing Week Regatta standings after day 3 1. Finn and I are out on the water again and this time with a little more wind so it is possible to trim the sails a bit. Finn still have a idea about buying a Bavaria but the Bavaria 32 does not sail so easy as Finn's old Dufour gibsea 31 there is more rigged for racing. On our little trip Finn discover a sound from the S-drive, something I never noticed before.

We made it to our first Anchorage on our journey south called Don Pedro Anchorage. We explore the beach and collect fossilized shark teeth, measure our mast to see if we can possibly go through Lake Okeechobee to the east coast due to the dreaded 49 foot railroad bridge clearance, and try to provision up with no where to dock our dinghy. **NOW SOLD** Tango 3 is a 2005 Catalina 34MkII listed exclusively with YOTI. https://www.yoti.com.au/listing/catalina-34mkii-tango-3 Being one of the later Catalina 34’s built; Tango 3 presents well and features all the modern features we would expect on a later model Catalina – electric anchor windlass, hot and cold pressure water, deck shower, large refrigeration, shore power system with battery charger... The in-mast furling mainsail and auto-pilot make for very easy shorthanded sailing. The cockpit is large, safe and comfortable with very good access to the water via the large drop down swim ladder and removable centre helm seat plus the all important 'Princess seats' and full cockpit cushions. Below is an L-shaped galley with very deep fridge and double stainless sinks, navigation station, large saloon with drop down table converting to another double berth, fully enclosed head with shower, a comfortable V berth with inner-spring mattress and a huge double aft cabin (both cabins are private). Tango 3 was engine serviced and anti-fouled in June 2017 and is available for inspection on Pittwater. Contact YOTI on info@yoti.com.au or (02) 9979 4043 for details and to arrange inspection.
So if you have seen the previous 2 films you will have watched us head off up the east coast of England in our 29ft Hanse for a well earned break. Well we have had a good time but the weather isn't really playing ball so we decide to cut our losses and head home before it gets any worse. We make these films just for fun, and we hope that you have enjoyed watching them however we have been asked on a couple of occasions now if we have a Paytreon account. We don’t want to do that at this stage as we feel it would turn the channel into a business, and as we said at the beginning, this is all just for fun. However if you would like to support us and feel you could help contribute to the cost of making these films then you can do that via our PayPal account here. A big thank you to everyone that has already done this, its a great help. https://www.paypal.me/TheFoxwellFamily And a big thank you to everyone that has supported us so far, its very much appreciated. We camp the night in the Eyre River bed and then make our way out of the Simpson Desert to Birdsville, the remote outback town that sits at the edge of the Simpson Desert. We wind our way towards the coast and take in some old homestead ruins along the way. We finally arrive at the most eastern point on the Australian continent, Byron Bay, some 6500 kilometres, and three weeks later, after starting our journey from Steep Point in Western Australia. We hope you enjoy this final episode of our traverse of the great continent. Next we will make our way back to SV Nutshell, via London and Los Angeles. Time to explore the hidden treasures of Fernando de Noronha! We start off by exploring Brazil’s most celebrated beaches. Feeling a pull to the ocean we long to breath underwater so we set off on a scuba diving adventure, and man was it a real treat! We had encounters with sharks, rays, and barracuda. We head ut to sea again and continue east along the coast of south-central Alaska. Our next destination is Prince William Sound, a huge sound with hundreds of islands, lots of glaciers and wildlife. We are a Swedish couple who wanted a different kind of life. So we moved aboard our sailboat RAN, a custom built Beason 40 in aluminium, untied the lines in the middle of the Swedish winter and started to sail south along the coast of Europe. Life is swell in Spanish Wells! Or breathtakingly beautiful at least. Phillip and I were happily shocked to find our favorite beach from our entire Bahamas trip tucked away on the north shore of what we thought was going to be an industrial little fishing island near Eleuthera. We were also really excited to make the jump to this island because it would be the first time we were back offshore since crossing the Gulf Stream to get to the Bahamas. We love to travel offshore. The sunsets underway are just indescribable. I love when they bathe the boat, and everyone on it, in “sunset.” Fun video for you all here, and photos below, from our sail down to Spanish Wells and the beautiful north shore we paddled there. Lobster, cannonballs, and starfish await! Dig in! https://havewindwilltravel.com/2018/07/19/bv20-overnight-sail-to-spanish-wells/
We get our new crew member and initiate him with a 40nm sail the first day! https://www.sailingnandji.com This week on Sailing Nandji, after taking the plunge and deciding to get a new crew member on board, we reached out to our Instagram following. Within a couple of days we had found Juzzy! His unique story took us by surprise and with such a positive attitude towards life, I wanted to meet this man. Collecting Juzzy from the ferry in Waisai, after a quick food shop, we headed out to sea for the first time. Juzzy had never been on a sail boat before and what better way to initiate him to the world of sailing then a 40nm sail on day one! Chuck him in the Deep End! We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We just arrived to Indonesia after cruising the Pacific islands. We departed Australia 12 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some amazing people and experienced cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of no where, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! Safe sailing. Boat: White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built. The camera gear: Main camera is a Panasonic Hc-v700. Most shots are done with an external mic (Shenggu sg 108) with a sponge and dead kitten attached. Action stuff and small blogging is done with a Sony Hdr-as30v. Underwater video Gopro3plus. Editing: Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff! There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access. Content: I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining. Comments and being at sea: I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World. Sailing from Croatia to Corfu in Greece. Sailing nonstop while being chased by thunder storms and bad weather. Night sailing and night navigation. Fishing boats without navigation lights or AIS. This video show only a glimse of why you should not sail long distanse without radar and the knowledge how to use your radar. Sailing nonstop shorthanded is demanding but also fun when things goes smooth. This also was Camilla’s first real sail and she did not get seasick! Not even while making awesome food to hungry sailors in 30+ knots wind. Subscribe here: https://goo.gl/zy4Weu Thank you for watching! We had a calm enough day to take our deflated dinghy out and have a go at some fish for lunch. Riley chased down a beautiful sized Mutton Snapper, but he escaped. He managed to get his hands on a perfect sized Yellow Tail Snapper instead which I threw in the oven with a bunch of veggies. I've eaten a lot of fish in my life... and this one was well and truly up there!! 🙌🏼. Situated in the very South east corner of Fiji, Fulanga is about as far from civilization as you can get. It is one of the most beautiful places we have been to in the world. Yes, the world. Fulanga has it all. A beautiful protected lagoon with crystal clear waters, abundant sea life, corals that are alive and healthy, shallow waters, beautiful mushroom islets, a sand spit perfect for kite boarding, a pass to dive, and the beautiful people of Fiji in the nearby village. Life is good in Fulanga. So take the time to sit back relax and join us in this video where we explore above and below the pristine waters of this lagoon. We were grateful to be able to share this unique and amazing place with Kim, Ashley’s mom. But Fulanga lacks one thing, a vegetable shop. With provisions running out and a flight to catch for Kim, we set off to the big city of Suva. After clearing the standing waves in the pass, we set sail for civilization. The passage was smooth and the big city lights greeted us at twilight after 2 nights at sea. With the sun coming up we pulled into the busy ramshackle port and made our way to the Royal Suva Yacht Club. Our very first reciprocal club experience in our entire world cruise. Suva has a reputation among yachties as being a bit of a dump but we loved it! Blasting around in cheap cabs, amazing Indian food, friendly people, rugby games, and the best market we have ever seen! We saw mom off with a wonderful gentleman, Hari, in a beautiful air conditioned cab for the trek to the international airport on the other side of the island in Nadi. Suva, the shining hole of a city won our hearts. But time was ticking and we were dying for a swim in the ocean, it was time to keep going. We begin our journey on the day we are obliged to get out of the United States. We left with a crew of 3, me the beautiful Margarida and Tim the davit man. It is not the best time of year to sail across the gulf but there are no tropical disturbances in our path so we head out. We know there is going to be little wind for the first couple of days but we have plenty of fuel and an immaculate motor with less than 1000 hours so we believe we are ok. Unfortunately the motor dies and the fun begins. Give it thumbs a up if you liked this episode! Want more? We twice try to cross the Yucatan channel where there is a strong 5 knot northerly current but both times get thrown back north into the Gulf of Mexico because of little wind. Our back up plans are Cuba and Key West since the current is already taking us there but some wind arrives and we push further south to counteract the strong current. Third time lucky? The wind fills to 12 knots, the best up until then was 8, and we hit the current hard and get to within 20 miles of Isla Mulheres and then the wind promptly dies. We begin to drift north and Margarida gets on the radio but it seems the only help now is the dinghy with a 3.5 horse power outboard. Give it thumbs a up if you liked this episode! Want more? If you haven't seen part 1 please watch it first as it explain why the wind direction changes as you go up the mast and why we need sail twist to compensate. (Wednesday 19th September, Valencia) – Although the sea breeze came tantalisingly close to providing racing for the 11 boat TP52 fleet at the 52 SUPER SERIES Valencia Sailing Week, a long afternoon on the water proved to be in vain as the race officer sent the fleet back to the Marina de Valencia dock at a little after 1630hrs. The lack of competition today works in circuit leaders Quantum Racing’s favour. With a maximum of three days of racing left their overall lead of 26 points looks even better at the end of today than it did this morning. “We always like to go racing. Any day we go racing is good. But with the points buffer we have on the scoreboard and the forecast we have, can we get two days with three races in? I don’t think so. But at Quantum Racing we would prefer to win in on the water. And nothing changes in our approach. Every day, as Terry Hutchinson says, is the same as it ever was. We change nothing about our approach to every single day.” Two other teams were smiling though. Logistics partners Peters & May provided tickets for tonight’s Champions League match between Valencia and Juventus to the boat of the day. As there was no racing the tickets were split between the regatta table toppers Platoon and Azzurra. 52 SUPER SERIES Valencia Sailing Week Regatta standings after day 2 1.
