AWESOME day on the sea, and finally sailing down the coast of Colombia after years of anticipation and preparation, and what do I see but SNOW on the mountain tops on the coastline... seriously?? Never expected that one, but it did cool off the air for us nicely as we make our way South! :) Cheers, Captain Rick For more real-time updates, follow us on Instagram at: http://www.instagram.com/SailingSophisticatedLady Support SSL Videos at: http://www.patreon.com/AmbientRealLife New SSL Video Collections just released on Vimeo! https://vimeo.com/ambientreallife/vod_pages More information new Iridium GO! Hello Friends, On this episode we head to the boat to test fit the enclosure and make sure all the measurements line up. After getting the stove set down in the brackets and seeing how she swings we head back ashore and get to work on preparing the bulkheads and start the laminating process. After drilling out the holes for the brackets I installed countersunk "T-Nuts" on both of the bulkheads. This will give me the strength of a through bolt without having an exposed nut on the other side of the bulkhead. In the chance that I should ever find myself capsized in the southern ocean I want to make sure the oven stays put until the boat rights itself. Everything I build on my boat I build with the knowledge that one day I will be sailing in the Southern Ocean and I want to make sure every project I do is as strong and secure as possible. I used white formica for the surfaces and DAP Weldwood contact cement to adhere it. With the help of my wife Camille and Mr. Steady the hound we got the enclosure all screwed together and ready for more laminating. Thanks for watching! In this episode the Parlay Revival crew depart Grenada to sail to Los Roques, Venezuela. They are a crew of 6, with only the captain Colin ever done any proper sailing before, so he gives everyone a sailing lesson before everyone does their watches. Everything is going smoothly in their hurricane damaged boat until they hit a bit of a storm in the middle of the ocean. Venezuela is renown for pirates so the crew give the mainland a wide berth to avoid any trouble. #oceancrossing #lifeisgood We finish the first leg of our Atlantic crossing and arrive in Mindelo, Cape Verde. The town is very tidy and well kept but looks like they didn’t developed since they got independent. We have our toilet blocked again, what a nightmare! We send the Genoa for a little repair so we don’t take any risk on the next part of the crossing. We are really enjoying this life and share everything with you it's been wonderful . Thank you very much, you guys are amazing. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, fifteen months after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it. Much love Carla and Simon https://noforeignland.com/home/map/boat/6152623245754368/

In the lead up to the inaugural SailGP event sailed on Sydney Harbour over Friday and Saturday, Nathan Outteridge and Team Japan had been touted to top the podium. By the end of Day 1 Team Japan had shown every reason why they were favourites, looking much the most controlled in their manoeuvres and heading the race leaderboard by one point from a late-charging Team Australia. But Day 2 delivered a dominant performance from Team Australia, taking out both fleet races and leading from start to finish in the match race against Team Japan to win the event. With the breeze rarely passing 10 knots over the two days – indeed probably averaging 7-8 knots at most – and the entire fleet nailing barely a handful of fully foiling tacks between them, the amount of time that the boats spent foiling was nonetheless testament to the power of the F50s. Remarkably, the proposal to fit the fleet with new modular wings in 2020, adding a further four metres to the rig height for light airs would likely see the best in the fleet achieving a ‘dry lap’ in similar conditions.

Sometimes the wind does not do what you want it to do. Despite that, you still need to get where you're going. What would have been a 7 day passage ended up being 9 days in the end. All part of the journey!

The boat utilises a hard-chined, plywood construction and this design of boat is a proven, capable, ocean-going vessel. Boat building with plywood is a relatively easy and cost-effective way to produce a strong, monocoque-style boat hull. These videos aim to show the way in which I go about it. Thank you! Tony
In this episode of Sailing Chelsea, we sail around to a gorgeous little anchorage in Tenerife with Lucas where we do some paddle boarding from the boat, kayaking and nearly get taken out by a wave! July 2018 In this first episode, we dive right into the trip to Florida to look at 3 Lagoon 440 Owners Version Catamarans. In future episodes, we will explain a bit more about why a Catamaran and why Lagoon. We moved to Virginia from California in 2015 and always knew we would buy a sailboat, but it wasn't until a fated trip back to Cali for work that we decided to pull the trigger. We didn't initially plan to live aboard and sail to the Bahamas (which is where we are now), but that is, in fact, how it would turn out. During July-August, as we searched for Lagoon Catamarans, and found our dream boat, we almost lost the dream altogether. But this first episode is really just about the initial process of making the decision and acting on it, including giving almost all of our stuff away. This video is about Sailing New Zealand, Boat Chores Cleaning, Chain, Lost Items, Ep 51, Off the Starboard Hull in a Lagoon 400 S2 catamaran, sailing around the world. A Canadian Couple from Vancouver Island, BC, Canada left from Parksville July 21, 2016 to sail around the world in their Lagoon 400 S2 catamaran. See how they get along, who they meet and where they end up going. They have a 10 year estimated time line, but a very open agenda. Our last video about arriving in Hiva Oa was in April 2018. We landed in Makemo in May and visited 5 other atolls, Kauehi, Fakarava (great night shark dive in the south pass), Toau, Apataki (huge surf) and the biggest atoll Rangiroa. Then we were in the societies (Tahiti, Huahine, Tahaa, Bora Bora, Maupiti and Maupihaa) which was a nice blend of atoll and island. Maupiti was our favourite place. Then we went to Swarrow, a nature reserve with 2 resident rangers in the Cook Islands. Then we went to the island country of Niue with unlimited underwater visibility, pristine coral, baby humpback whales, caverns and chasms. Breathtaking! From there, we traveled to Neiafu (with dozens of protected anchorages), Pangai in the Haipai region and Nuku’alofa, all 3 regions in Tonga. Next was Minerva Reef for 20 hours before we embarked on the notorious passage to NZ. Since Nov 12 2018, we have been in Opua New Zealand and are loving the friendly people, the lovely Bay of Islands and the access to materials and shops to do some boat projects.

Yup, we had a rat onboard within days of docking in Almerimar Marina. We tried using traditional traps, homemade traps, glue, duct tape and even Oscar, a Patterdale terrier - a proven ratter, but nothing worked. But if there's one thing worse than a live rat onboard, it's a dead one. It must have eaten the rat poison left out by the marina staff then crawled into the most inaccessible part of our boat and died. The stench of a rotting rat corpse filled the boat. We pulled the place apart trying to find it, and eventually retrieved the body with the vacuum cleaner from the ceiling void. Not the best start to wintering in Spain! As we enter the early summer of 2018 in Greece, we find some real gems. We're still learning the habits of Talisman, our Oyster 485 sloop, but she's a rugged and spirited boat. She doesn't steer in reverse very well, but with practice things start to come together. Kioni, Greece is one of the most amazing places. Believe it or not, docking on the town quay is free, while the beer and food is reasonably priced. We kept coming back time after time, and each visit was amazing in its own way.
We have not one but two birthdays this week on our little blue water sailing boat. We get ready to start a mountain of boat chores as soon as the celebrations are over, we meet several of our neighbours in the marina plus we go and explore some of this amazing Scottish coastline. OUR INSPIRATION A big shout out to some of the people who inspired us to live a life less ordinary, and for any family or friends who wonder who gave us this crazy idea, well there are several parties to blame, which I'll list below. Firstly the original sailing couple who led the way for so many of the sailing channels that we see today, none other than Paul and Sheryl Shard and their Distant Shores adventure channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/distants... Second on the list has to go to possibly my favourite channel to watch, I hope to one day be even 10% as capable of fixing boat problems that arise as Captain Brian over at the Delos channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/briantra... Also a big shout out to the amazingly talented and beautiful couple over at Sailing La Vagabond. You guys made us realise that buying and living on a sailing boat was possible for us mere mortals, even if you have transcended that status somewhat by now. Great channel for anyone that's never come across them: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZdQ... Finally to a modern day Moitessier, documenting his mostly single handed sails in his tiny little boat, really capturing the entire range of what the ocean can throw at you, all the while remaining calm, collected and just getting on with it. If we can keep our cool even half as well as this legend then we will be fine. Stopping the boat from sinking on Christmas, we take Nandji through the Busiest Shipping lane in the world! https://www.sailingnandji.com After a sailing through the night on our 8th day of passage on Christmas eve, we make a spontaneous decision to stop off on Christmas day to speak to family. With the polluted water of the city, a squall blows through in the wee hours of the morning and we drag anchor because of the plastic on the bottom. Finally in the safety of Nongsa Point Marina, we rest up and let the unusual weather blow through up north. We celebrate New Years eve and enjoy the week spent in the luxurious resort/marina. Having a swimming pool to play in, air conditioning, cold drinks and a washing machine! Oh the luxuries!! The weather clears and it is time to sail in the busiest shipping lane in the world! We had been nervous about this passage ever since deciding to sail this far to the boat yard. The Singapore strait was an eye opener as the sheer size and speed of the vessels passing so close to you kept us on the edge of our seats! We are a young couple with a dog, who with no sailing experience, bought a yacht, got it blue water cruising ready and set off sailing around the Pacific! We have just sailed 2000nm through Indonesia and have arrived to Malaysia to complete major boat work, ready for the next big adventure. We departed Australia 18 months ago and have since explored some amazing countries, met some beautiful people and experienced different cultures, dived pristine reefs, surfed solo in the middle of nowhere, spent weeks at sea, dealt with storms, big waves, strong winds and had the time of our life doing it! The adventure is just beginning as we sail West with the trades! SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL. https://www.youtube.com/c/frothlyfesailingnandji CLICK THE BELL to know when NEW Nandji videos are up! On this week's episode of Onboard Lifestyle we help commemorate Seattle's new landmark right before we experience a full blown polar vortex. It was perfect timing for us to head south to celebrate the Lunar New Year with Linh's parents. We returned just in time to clear the decks on our custom 435 catamaran SV basik before the next round of storms came in. Come back next week to see what we are up to...see you then!
