Join us in Rebak Marina, Malaysia, as we take on an extensive series of repairs and upgrades to bring our boat back to top condition. What began as a routine haul-out quickly turned into a major project when we discovered significant corrosion on the prop shaft. This unexpected setback required us to dismantle the C-drive and arrange for the shaft to be fully rebuilt. Alongside the mechanical work, we completed a wide range of maintenance tasks essential for long-term reliability and performance. This included sanding, cleaning, and applying fresh antifoul to the hull, as well as polishing and waxing both the topsides and the hull sides. We carried out fibreglass repairs, fitted a new windlass motor, galvanised the anchor and chain, replaced the guard rail, and tidied the safety netting.The bow thruster and main propellor were also both serviced as usual. To improve safety and electrical grounding, we installed a new bonding strap and rebonded the propeller shaft. We also upgraded our ageing flexible solar panels, stitched the coverings for the dinghy chaps and spray hood, and ensured every detail was ready for the season ahead. After several months of continuous work, we managed to complete the refit just in time for a relaunch before Christmas. Left the boat in Lombok… and traded sails for surf, rice fields, and a bit of Bali chaos. After hopping aboard a ferry that felt more “adventure” than “transportation,” we made it to Bali in one slightly rattled piece. What followed was a weekend full of surprises: We wandered through the stunning Ubud rice terraces — yes, it’s crowded, yes, there are lines for photos… but the natural beauty still shines through and makes it all worth it. Tried Kopi Luwak, the famously expensive coffee made from civet poop — surprisingly smooth, if you don’t think about the process too much. We sailed across the Indonesian waters, chasing the horizon until after a few days of navigating and passing scattered islands, we dropped anchor near a remote island that looked untouched by time. We reached a quiet little island that felt like something out of a dream. There, we hiked up to a stunning waterfall tucked deep in the jungle—completely surrounded by the sounds of nature and not much else. It was peaceful in a way that’s hard to put into words, and we really soaked in the simplicity of it all. After that, we continued our journey on to Lombok, where we spent a day at a wildlife park. It was kind of like a zoo, but not quite—what surprised us most was how close we could get to the animals. Many of them were just roaming around, and we were actually encouraged to feed and gently stroke them. It felt more like being a guest in their space than just a visitor. We first arrived in a remote, untouched bay on the island of Buru after sailing 300nm through strong, relentless winds. The crossing was wild—salt spray in our faces, sails straining, and the sea rolling with energy. Dropping anchor in that secluded bay felt like entering another world. There were no signs of modern life—just dense jungle, silence, and the sound of waves brushing the shoreline. After catching our breath there, we set sail again—this time for a much longer passage. We covered over 200 nautical miles across the Banda Sea, eventually reaching Wangi-Wangi in Sulawesi. From there, we continued on to the coastal town of Wakatobi, where we finally found the people we had heard so much about: the Bajo. They live almost entirely on the water—homes on stilts, boats tucked under houses, and women floating between the houses with effortless grace. Spending time with them felt like stepping into a living myth. They’re the sea people who inspired the ocean tribes in Avatar: The Way of Water, and you can see why. Their bond with the ocean runs deeper than anything we’ve ever seen—it's not just how they live, it's who they are. The next day, we wandered through the local market, a vibrant chaos of smells and color. Women were expertly chopping massive slabs of tuna—clean cuts through fish the size of small sharks. We heard that the Indonesian check in system for yachts was going online so we decided to try and do it ourselves without an agent like a few other boats had done it before us. Apart from a little patience it was so far quite simple . Once on our way, we sailed on and continued to dodge the bizarre selection of Fish Attraction Devices thst were floating around everywhere. Some even looked like floating homes . The wind died down so we stopped in an idylic cove called turtle bay where we dropped our anchor and tied up shorelines next to our buddy boat " Teatime". We spent many serene days completing a few boat jobs, playing on the beach, watching the hermit crabs and cleaning up the plastic. A squall awoke us from our dream so we started to plan our journey to reach the next destination....Sorong here we come ! We check out of Australia and head to Indonesia, into a new continent, into Asia! We generally have enough wind so the sea state is quite unsettled but not everything goes so smoothly . We rip our main sail, damage the prongs on the genoa furler and Irenka has a nasty accident which requires some immediate first aid. We have had Lizard Island on our bucket list for a while but living on a boat means there are always reasons why you can't make it. However, we did finally get there and the sailing was superb. Once on the island we decided to follow in Captain Cooks footsteps and hike to the look out point at the top . We did it for the exercise but they would have done it to figure out how to navigate and get out of the reef system. As we sail along we realise how tricky it is navigating in these waters. Reefs pop out from nowhere so you have to keep a good lookout at all times. We sail to the most Northern point in Australia and arrive in Hook Island and then the next day cross to Thursday Island where we check out of Australia. We sail up the East coast of Australia , stopping at some iconic places like Percy Yacht Club to leave our mark. A warning about sharks in the water at Sawmill Bay in the Whitsundays means we decide to climb the peak rather than go swimming, even though it is pouring with rain. On our way to Cairns, the wind dies so we stop at a random anchorage to rest and enjoy the sunset but this time we really do spot a shark at the waters edge so we have to work out how to get back in our dinghy and to our boat without becoming prey to this potentially hangry shark! We sail to Lady Musgrave Island and navigate into the narrow passage to reach the lagoon. It is fascinating to walk around the island and find out about the birds that migrate here. We spot turtles in the water and recognise its importance as a turtle nesting site. When we leave the lagoon and head to the Great Keppel Islands, the weather does not look too good so we are expecting squalls and storms through the night.
