Es soll allerdings auch hochseetauglich sein, um bequem auch mal für längere Zeit darauf leben zu können. Die Möglichkeit einer Blauwasser Langfahrt besteht nämlich durchaus. Nachdem es die Bénéteau Oceanis aus dem letzten Video nicht werden sollte, sind wir wieder dabei bei ihrer nächsten Bootsbesichtigung. Es dreht sich heute quasi alles um Jeanneau – genauer: Sun Odyssey. Im Gespräch sind gleich drei: Einmal die ausgestellte 44er auf der Hamburg Boat Show, wo unser Tag startet, dann eine 43er DS, die Rolf und Bärbel in Italien besichtigt haben und als drittes das Schiff, wofür sie sich sehr interessieren und mit uns gemeinsam anschauen. Wir waren ziemlich überrascht, die Unterschiede in der Verarbeitungsqualität bei Jeanneau innerhalb von 15 Jahren an einem Tag zu erleben. Außerdem lässt sich Hendrik über Teakholz aus, denn damit steht er seit dem Kauf unserer 7seas auf Kriegsfuß... Die Verkabelung des Stromkastens ist schon etwas weiter voran geschritten, da hier an einem zusätzlichen Wochenende bereits weiter daran gearbeitet wurde. Auch wird die Elektrik im Motorraum weiter aufgeräumt, ein neues Negativterminal und ein Shunt für den Batteriemonitor installiert. #Sailing the #NY harbour | #sailboat Rachel |sea tv Entering the NY Harbor from the Ocean: In order to find the currents information refer to Eldridge - Tide and Current book of the present year or use one of the tides & current websites recommended below. The reference point is The Narrows, NY Harbor - which is located at under the bridge - mid-channel (40°36.56’N 72°02.77’W) Ideally getting under the Verrazano should be timed for the time where the flood starts (south to north).The flood typically runs for approximately 6 hours with velocities ranging from 1.4 - 2.3 knots (depending on moon cycle). The maximum flood is 2 hours and 25 minutes after the flood starts. If you happened to miss the flood window you will just have to take into account being pushed back the ebb (north to south). Ebbs (velocities are ranging from 1.7 - 2.5 knots and the maximum ebb is 3 hours and 15 minutes after the ebb starts. If that happens to try to steer your boat as much as west as possible (remember - maximum current will be in the middle) where the current is relatively weaker. On the east side, the current is relatively stronger as it is affected with both the Hudson River current and the East River Current. Sailing by Liberty and Elis Islands: Identify white floating marks around both islands that are designating the security zone around these islands. Avoid getting between these marks and the islands as if you do - you’ll get a police boat approaching you in just a few minutes ;-) Do not attempt going west of Liberty Island (behind the statue) as this area is restricted as well as contains unexpected shallows. Same for Elis Island (that also has a bridge running between the Island and Liberty State Park which is pretty short). Please note that the area south of Liberty Island is rocky and in low tide, depth is getting extremely shallow (between 30cm - 2.5m/ 1-7.5 feet). If you wish to navigate west of the Statue of Liberty in order to get a spectacular view of the harbour to enter a well-marked channel with red and green buoys (remember: Red Right Return! Meaning on your way west you’d like to keep red buoys to your starboard and green buoys to your port). The first buoy is a nun red buoy 2, marked in Navionics as “National Dock Channel Buoy 2” (40°41.155’N, 74°2.657’W). The channel runs south of Liberty Island and narrows as it gets more west and closer to Liberty State Park. If you follow the buoys all the way in your will end up at a well-protected cove where you can anchor overnight. Make sure to check your depth before anchoring - in general - the northern part is deeper (3-4.5m/9-14 feet) than the southern part (rocks awash - 1.25m/4.9 feet). This week we show how to maintain your marine toilet. A worn out joker valve will allow water to backflow into the bowl after being flushed. We show how to troubleshoot and replace this part. It is not a glorious job but a reality of living aboard a boat. We also improve the heat and air distribution within the cabins on the boat by installing rigid duct work using inexpensive PVC. If you have ever had a need to get more heat or air into certain portions of the bota, this video shows a simple and easy way to do so with tools and skills most boaters will have. The hardest part of this job is routing the ductwork but with a little planning, it is not that hard to do. We will show you the best way to plan the vent locations as well based on your climate and needs. This video is about Sailing French Polynesia, The Societies 2, Ep 50B, Off the Starboard Hull in a Lagoon 400 S2 catamaran. A Canadian Couple from Vancouver Island, BC, Canada left from Parksville July 21, 2016 to sail around the world in their Lagoon 400 S2 catamaran. See how they get along, who they meet and where they end up going. They have a 10 year estimated time line, but a very open agenda. Our last video about arriving in Hiva Oa was in April 2018. We landed in Makemo in May and visited 5 other atolls, Kauehi, Fakarava (great night shark dive in the south pass), Toau, Apataki (huge surf) and the biggest atoll Rangiroa. Then we were in the societies (Tahiti, Huahine, Tahaa, Bora Bora, Maupiti and Maupihaa) which was a nice blend of atoll and island. Maupiti was our favourite place. Then we went to Swarrow, a nature reserve with 2 resident rangers in the Cook Islands. Then we went to the island country of Niue with unlimited underwater visibility, pristine coral, baby humpback whales, caverns and chasms. Breathtaking! From there, we traveled to Neiafu (with dozens of protected anchorages), Pangai in the Haipai region and Nuku’alofa, all 3 regions in Tonga. Next was Minerva Reef for 20 hours before we embarked on the notorious passage to NZ. Since Nov 12 2018, we have been in Opua New Zealand and are loving the friendly people, the lovely Bay of Islands and the access to materials and shops to do some boat projects.

Our temporary repair of the leaking through-hull begins to fail, however, and the leak increases to a steady drip. So I attempt another repair using thickened epoxy. After a 7 day passage solo I was excited to arrive in the bustling port city of Sorong, Indonesia. It had been months since I'd had access to fast internet, supermarkets and restaurants. I met a local called John who helped me out with all the check-in authorities and showed me how things work in the city. We finally finished our first video since leaving the dock. After our friends the Schnaars family arrive we sail around the Whitsunday Islands. After their short holiday is over, we head south on our way towards the Gold Coast, stopping at Boat Port, Lindeman Island where we sat out the 1 in a 500 year monsoonal rain. On a Wings sailing tour one of the best places to wake up onboard is south Whitehaven beach. What better way to start the day than a morning swim on an almost deserted beach. Only overnight tours can avoid the peak visiting times and enjoy a world class icon at its most pristine, be the first footprints.. then be the last footprints. Sunrise and sunset out in the Whitsunday islands is a must for any visit. Sleeping aboard allows you to wake up in paradise on the Great Barrier Reef.

This video doesn't have too much to do with sailing, but I thought it could be a good edit for sailors who want to travel to Gibraltar, hopefully one day we will get there. I explore the rock, get attack by the monkeys and learn to make friends with them also. Lastly a little hidden gem deep inside the rock that's not on the tourist trail. Affectionately referred to as the Pearl of the Adriatic, Dubrovnik is a mesmerising walled city that's nestled on the far south of the Dalmatian coast!
