June 2019 On our way back to Florida, we noticed the motor amperage was off the charts on the starboard side. An investigation revealed that the fan had failed and even replacing it midway in the stream did not help. In this episode, we learn we burnt up the starboard motor, demagnitizing it and had to remove it, crate it, and ship it for repair. It's called a BOAT. And we all know what that acronym stands for... May 2019 In this episode, we were just minding our business getting ready to sail to a different part of the Abacos when OUT OF NOWHERE, we see a couple bees in the cockpit. Thinking "that's odd", we go investigate... Turns out, the entire stack pack (the canvas that holds our main sail) was COVERED in bees. We tried dousing them with buckets of water = NOPE We tried swatting the stack pack = NOPE We asked the interwebs what we should do = CALL AN EXTERMINATOR? Like what? Taking matters into our own hands, we layered up in the 80 degree weather and decided to hoist the main and (in the words of Taylor Swift) "shake it off". April 2019 Maybe I should have titled this video "Throwback Thursday"? Back when we had open borders and could sail wherever we wanted, we made the jump to the Abacos to hang out with friends, listen to bands and dance, ride on swings, and snorkel. What we didn't expect was to drag 200+ feet at anchor. At 3am of course. When you encounter a strong easterly wind, on an outgoing tide, in the middle of the tide change, you are asking for trouble. This video is about the phenomenon known as a RAGE. July 30, 2020 In this episode, we show you what it's like to rescue a sailing vessel still attached to a defunct mooring, as Tropical Isaias hits us. Prior to this rescue, as the outer bands hit Luperon, on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, several boats broke free from their mooring. The harbor community is amazing and many cruisers jumped in their dinghy's to offer help and rescue support. Tropical Storm Isaias made a direct hit on Dominican Republic's north shore, specifically Luperon. We rode the storm out which quickly became a Cat 1 Hurricane just west of us. July 29, 2020. 1000 miles wide, TS Isaias is expected to directly hit the Dominican Republic by Thursday. With predicted 18 foot swells and 60 kts winds, is Luperon the safest harbor as they claim? At 11:15p AST, winds are 10-15kts, and the outer bands of rain have just hit inside the harbor. As well as Emily & Clark's Adventure, who are in the Turks & Caicos at anchor, but part of our rat pack. Tomorrow morning, we'll check in with our friends and give an update on our experience. December 2018 Before we left Florida for our travels at sea, Sparticus, our 15 year old Yorkshire Terrier, took a turn for the worst. In this video, we said goodbye. This was and is still an emotionally difficult video to have created, and edited. We miss him everyday and while we know we did the right thing for him, it is still painful and reminds us we have an empty space in this boat, in this life, without him. For all of you who have had to say goodbye to your best friend, we know your pain. Til the Heavenly Bridge that rejoins us, fair winds my sweet Sparticus, my little Snuffleupagus, Lil Dude, Sweat Pea, Cranky Fart, and all the other stupid yet loving nicknames I gave you. Mama misses you. And Daddy too.
