Exploring the well travelled western side of Fiji is beautiful with lots of sites to see. We check out Fiji's best surf spots and then head up through the Yasawa group. This is another sailor's nightmare besides your rigging coming down in the middle of the Pacific Ocean - running on a HUGE marine creature with your boat. Join us on our 400nm sail from Costa Rica to Panama with LOTS of marine wildlife encounters & wind conditions we have to tackle. Approaching uninhabited, very sketchy charted islands at night with the help of our radar, up to 38 knots of wind around Panama's "Punta Mala" (comes up to it's name!!) - and then: jumping tunas, turtles, rays, dolphins, glowing jellyfish, an intense algae bloom - and a whale shark encounter way too close for our taste! We remove and replace the propane line on our sailboat. Figuring out how to best protect the new propane line after it's installation took a little creativity and extra work but in the end - we were able to test our stove and see if it worked! We make a trip to explore the Matagorda area. We visited the Colorado Locks and the nearby marina and then checked out the beach. We're building our boat with vinyl ester resin - and they're OUT nationwide!! This week's video is a smattering of a few different things, trying to catch up from when we were preparing the Pacemaker to launch (late June) to starting work on the floors of the catamaran (early July). We also give away the Viking, which was a sad day, but we show you the transformation of when we first stepped foot on her last fall, to what she looks like when we hand her over. Plus, we run into the issue that we can not get our hands on vinyl ester resin, so we need to find other projects to keep us busy, which do not involve it. Luckily, we can do the floors in a polyester resin instead. This will be a long process that *should* keep us busy for a few weeks, and Matt explains the technical side of how all floors will be water tight spaces. During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie love about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time. A little ditty about getting from our sailboat, anchored in the boonies on Naxos Island (because we are trying to shelter from an incoming Meltemi) and trying to get into downtown Naxos to rent a scooter and tour the island…and try to make it back. We had to swim to shore but our drybag had a hole and drenched our clothes, and then we hiked a cliff to get to a bus stop where we ended calling a cab. To get back we did it all again, backwards and in the dark. All a great adventure and totally worth it.
