Our experience and review with the expensive Portland Pudgy and the torqeedo travel 1103. The boat we received is marketed as: "unlike an inflatable life raft, the Portland Pudgy lifeboat is proactive: You can sail, row, or motor it. (This is why it’s called a “dynamic” lifeboat.)" "it is ingeniously designed so that all of the survival equipment fits inside the boat and/or can be pre-set, so that it is ready in an emergency. All of the survival gear, including sailing rig, sea anchor, exposure canopy, oars, ditch bag, provisions, and fishing gear can stow inside the storage chamber of the double hull (with the exception of the rudder and leeboards, which stow under the stern seat). In today’s video we first take you to Cwm Bridge in the Usk Valley before taking a trip to Crickhowell, a Georgian town full of character and history. Next we hop back in the car and drive to the Clydach area where we find old ruins of the limeworks, deep gorges and the old railway station. Now transformed into an 8 mile cycle and walk route, this viaduct is definitely an epic visit. We then head to Keepers Pond for a dip, however, the colour of the water slightly put us off so we headed back towards Swansea to find some more local waterfalls! This week we sail to a different anchorage in Nuku Hiva, Daniel’s bay, and wow we can’t believe our eyes. The mountains that surrounds the bay looks like something of a post card from Hawaii. The highest waterfall in French Polynesia is also located here, we decide to hike it with one of our new yacht friends Devon. The locals show us the beginning of the trail and tells us a home made meal will be waiting on us when we come back. The trail is hard to find and we face many rivers and creeks on the way. But oh my, the view is breath taking. We continue to the bottom of the waterfall, but it is so high we can’t see the start of it. Sulking wet from the mist of the waterfall we try to take it all in. Wow! Back in the village we are presented with a beautiful locally sourced lunch. Fresh caught fish, fruit salad, cassava and an incredible smoothie. Episode #202 : A wonderful spot on the Front Side of Catalina Island. Hello Friends, On this episode we depart the very rolly Rippers Cove and make way for a smoother berths. We enjoyed a slow sailing down passing Goat Harbor as the same swell marched into the anchorage. Consulting our cruising guide we pointed for Moonstone Cove at Whites Landing. Dropping the hook in 30ft of water surrounded by beautiful cliffs and protection from both the wind and the swells. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! After rounding Cape Cockburn we sail up the inside of Croker Island past an old abandoned Pearl Farm. We repair the autopilot system in one of the boats caused by a sheared bolt, whilst trying to keeping our toes out of the crocodile infested waters hanging over the edge of the transom. Finally we head to Palm Bay at the north western end of Croker Island and have an awesome fishing experience as we sail through a school of very hungry Queenfish. #seawind1260 #circumnavigationaustralia #crokerisland

The final day of the 44Cup Cowes was always going to be big. Despite the overnight seven point gap between the leaders Aleph and second placed Ceeref, experience told Hugues Lepic and his team that they should take nothing for granted. Behind them the battle for third was intense with three teams on equal points. But few could have anticipated the intensity of how the final day played out. More breeze was always on the cards with the forecast showing over 20+ knots. And this was precisely what the fleet got. Yet this time around the tide was with the wind most of the day making for flatter seas, which in turn meant that there were some superb high speed sleigh rides downhill.

The double constrictor knot is a great option for creating and anchor point with your rope. The double constrictor knot tightens on its self making it super secure, even after even a small amount of tension it will be so tight that you will require a pick or a knife to undo the constrictor knot. It is a stronger and even more secure version of the single constrictor knot. It is particularly useful when tying the knot with very slippery twine, especially when waxed. Adding more than one extra riding turn does not add to its security and makes the knot more difficult to tighten evenly. The double constrictor knot can be used to secure your rope to any object or can even be attached to another length of rope. Many say that the use cases for the constrictor knot are only limited by your imagination. The win is the first for many years by a GB boat against the French. Congratulations. Our report has many aspects and winners are covered in this race coverage.

Practice or showcase, call it what you will, the 44Cup fleet simply call it another opportunity to line up against each other. And while starting off the Royal Yacht Squadron to canon fire is always special, so too is the opportunity to push your opponents hard as you work your way west along the famous Cowes Green. So, while the race from the Squadron to the starting area counted for no points, the short beat and long run provided a valuable opportunity for all to lock in numbers and techniques for the day. This was also a day that saw summer return. A 10knot breeze, flat seas and largely flat water made for a very different race course from 24 hours before. But with more south in the wind direction for the opening race the breeze was spilling over the Isle of Wight making life tricky at the top mark.

Wir haben nun endlich den Ärmelkanal durchquert. Die starken Gezeitenströme werden wir sicherlich nicht vermissen. Am Cap de la Hague haben wir diese noch einmal gut zu spüren bekommen. Wir hätten gerne die Kanalinseln angelaufen, allerdings war dies durch verschärfte Einreisebestimmungen nicht möglich für uns. In Roscoff haben wir es uns richtig gut gehen lassen und das kulinarische Highlight von Roscoff, die Zwiebel, probiert. Diese hat einen milden und relativen süßen Geschmack - super lecker! Nach 6 langen, Corona-bedingten Monaten war es endlich wieder soweit. Im März 2021 konnten wir endlich ins Winterlager und unserer Mystra eine wohl verdiente und dringend nötige Pediküre verpassen.
