Our dinghy and motor has been in storage for over a year. Now it's finally time to get them into the water. First we add our registration numbers to our west marine 310 rigid inflatable boat with the help of our daughter. Todd sets up the dinghy davit system we have hanging off of our solar arch on the back of our sailboat. Then it's time for launch! We are a family preparing to sail around the world in our electric sailboat. On our way to Porto Santo our engine broke down in the middle of the night. We had to anchor under sail in a bay that lies underneath the cliffs of Porto Santo; with wind funnelling through the mountains that was kind of a struggle. Luckily we were helped by fellow sailors that gathered in their dinghies. After a day of rest and a bit of sightseeing we dive into our engine problem. In one of our books an almost too simple solution is described. We try it, of course, but it almost seems to good to be true. Will it work?? We get a visit from an old friend and explore the island (and its food & drinks!). After almost two weeks we head sail to Madeira: a completely different island. Opposite to the dry Porto Santo, Madeira is very green. We go high up in the mountains to get a taste of autumn. We follow the running water in the levada's and stretch our sea legs. But soon it's time to sail further South to Tenerife. Follow us along!

Yeow! The cold front passes over me and is rather more ferocious than it looked on the weather maps. As the wind backs more westerly I am obliged to set some mainsail, otherwise I cannot steer close enough to the wind to keep to the rhumb line. We are a middle aged couple that has left our hectic business lives to go sailing with our boat Fridá af Wisby and our cat Litza. Our goal is not to go to a specific place but to reach a state of mind where we can really enjoy life. The sailing in our home water the Baltic Sea is part of our preparation to sail to the Mediterranean Sea. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boat and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders a 4 years ago. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 3 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Litza is a Devon Rex cat and she is the real cattain aboard. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea.

We are setting sail to a place we REALLY DONT want to go. But it’s something we have to do. We pick up anchor in Santa Cruz Curacao and head a 16 nm sail to Pescaderia, to Royal Marine Boatyard. There is a strong countercurrent, gusty winds, but its a beautiful day to sail, so off we go. We don’t quite make it, so we have to anchor at night in a small fishing anchorage of St. Michel, wish we had more time here. Looks like a gorgeous place to dive and explore. We make finally to the dreaded destination. big love, Beau + Brandy #beauandbrandy #sailingcouple #sailboat -------------------------------------------------------------------------- -HELP SUPPORT THE PRODUCTION- Join our Patreon: http://bit.ly/BB-Patreon One time Donation via Paypal: http://bit.ly/one-time-donation-bb Be sure you are Subscribed: https://www.youtube.com/c/sailingsaoirse Amazon Wishlist: https://bit.ly/beauandbrandywishlist -SWAG- https://sailingsaoirse.com/shop/ -MUSIC- Epidemic Sound is where we find all of our music. 30 day free trial: https://www.epidemicsound.com/referral/mxtzxe/ -LETS BE SOCIAL- Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/beauandbrandy Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/sailingsaoirse -OUR GEAR WE USE- main camera: https://amzn.to/2lm2bSY go pro camera: https://amzn.to/3hMxf5C backup camera: https://amzn.to/2l8e3ry Waterproof Dry Back Pak: https://amzn.to/2VICYkH electric setup*: controller: https://amzn.to/2lm7hP7 electric motor: https://amzn.to/2ZnLfvN motor controller: https://amzn.to/3getpSw ____________________________________ *This channel is a participant in the Amazon Affiliate Program. We are Ben and MP! Recently we decided to purchase a two-masted 70ft wooden schooner in Brazil. The fun detail about our story is that the boat we bought was sinking and relying on many bilge pumps to survive so we had to lift it onto the dry to start a full refit. Once the boat was lifted (for the first time in her life) we realized that the works needed were a lot more than expected. Between bailing or accepting the challenge, we decided to go for the second option. That blip comes on the radar. Is it a squall? Is it a boat? Most boats this far offshore have some type of AIS, not all, but many. So who is this mysterious blip showing up on our radar? #sailing #boat #liveaboard #mysterious #offthegrid So who is this crazy sailing couple? We are trying to sail around the world, West About, via Cape Horn and the Cape of Good hope. Unlike some of the other new sailing channels, we are not just some hot bodies or sexy girls in bathing suits that don't know how to sail. We are experienced racing sailors that know how to get the best performance out of a boat, navigate in extreme conditions, and have lots of fun! So, we hope we don't have too many boat fails and keep it all about a beautiful sailboat sailing at her best! This isn’t a Captain Ron movie, it’s the real deal. If it’s gonna happen, it will happen out there! Join us as we keep on trucking across the Atlantic, from St. Maarten to the Azores in this leg of our around the world circumnavigation. We quit our jobs and launched our boat in July of 2019 and have sailed over 7,000 miles so far crossing oceans. This relaxing video has us sailing in the Atlantic ocean, during our transatlantic voyage. Our weather routing has us making a straight shot, rather than over the top of low pressure systems via Bermuda. This is unconventional, but so is our trip. Our route will continue to take us in the Portuguese trades, to the Canary Islands, Cape Verde, then on to Argentina, Chile, Cape Horn, and Patagonia. This is where we really want to sail away to and escape into the purity of nature. We hope to get there, but this trip is not easy. Like you, before we left we also watched the inspiring videos of s/v Delos, Sailing La Vagabonde, Project Atticus, and Gone with the Wynns to name a few. We have to take a moment to thank those that have gone before, and we hope that we can inspire you like we were. We learned a lot about living off the grid in a tiny hope from their and other YouTube videos. We are happy you are watching ours. So, grab your coffee and sail across the ocean along with us as we conquer our biggest fear, the unknown of what lies ahead in our voyage. Welcome aboard! Oh, and despite what the marketing says....you don't need a catamaran or multihull to go sailing and they are not all as fast as you think (they are nice and some good ones are fast, they are great party boats though and we love it when our friends have one!!!! ;-) Like this video and want to help us get better video shots, improve our sound quality, and increase our editing prowess? Head over to Patreon and drop a wad into our camera fund, there you can communicate directly with us as well, and we can talk about your sailing goals, how to buy a sailboat, prepare for offshore sailing, or just chat about the weather! http://www.patreon.com/ruca Find out tracker, blog, and more at: https://www.sweetruca.com Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram! @rucasailing http://www.facebook.com/rucasailing http://www.instagram.com/rucasailing

While sailing around our most favorite island to date, Menorca, we come across the Anchorage from hell. It was seriously the worse anchorage we have ever experienced! Update - There's a happy ending shared here: https://youtu.be/MzJO9GYHBLE This is a cautionary tale about how we ordered sails in South Africa, from a reputable sail manufacturer, paid in full, and 21 months later, we have no sails. https://www.gonewiththewynns.com/sailmakers-stole-our-money ☝More Thoughts & Links to the Court Cases P.S. We start this weeks episode by fiberglassing a mount for our underwater lights, while we are still hauled out in the shipyard at Linton Bay in Panama. But we cant help ourselves and launch our new to us Highfield dinghy even before we are in the water. Our dinghy is a Highfield 380, with a 2-stroke Yamaha 25Hp engine on the back, so it absolutely flies! We put the drone up and take you on an epic cruise through the mangroves in Panama, to see how she handles the wild Panamanian coastline. SV Parlay is a hurricane damaged Lagoon 450 catamaran, which Colin rebuilt with friends and has started sailing around the world. They found bulkhead damage to their catamaran in Panama, so have fixed her up, and are ready to cross the pacific ocean soon! Let's start distracting from that green foam, by adding shiny molded pieces to the build. After last week's boat show feature, we're now jumping back in a time a few weeks to late September, where Matt and I begin the first step of what is going to help us get our transom on. By bonding in our sill, which separates the cockpit from the salon, we add a lot of strength to the bridge deck and really set it in place. There's a few steps needed to strengthen it before it goes down, but when that time does come, we have new help!! Our new friend Ryan, and his friend Burt, managed to schedule two weeks to come out and help us with the build. Our main goal during their time with us was to get the 25ft wide transom bonded on, but as you'll see over the next few episodes, there's just a few steps we need to take before we get there. Enjoy! Much love from Annapolis! As a BATTERY threatens to EXPLODE and TWO TROPICAL STORMS approach our marina in PUERTO RICO, we start to ponder the LUCKY vs. GOOD proposition. We try our best to be "good" - to make good decisions, prepare, sail conservatively, etc., knowing we don't always get it right. But so far our fortune has overall been very good. Are we just lucky? and if so, how long until that luck runs out? We have a week of close calls that has us wondering... Enjoy!! And be sure to SUBSCRIBE for WEEKLY CONTENT EVERY FRIDAY! Cheers!! During his time away from work, Jamie lived on board and cruised South East Asia. One of his life dreams is to sail around the world. His plans came together at the end of 2018 when he met a Filipina lounge singer in China. Princess was yearning for a vacation since she had been working many years to support her family. Finally, her siblings got their own jobs and she decided to join Jamie on Jupiter² and go sailing. It was a wild decision for her because she had never sailed before. For the first time, they sail for two weeks around Phuket, Thailand. She began to see what Jamie love about the sea. They both resigned from their jobs in early 2019 and began cruising full time. Rope ends will eventually fray even if they were cut with a hot knife or if you burnt the end of the rope. The best way to ensure the tails of your rope stay neat and tidy is to whip the ends. The simple technique only takes a couple of minutes ensure that your rope will not fray even when your rope is used often. Like Splicing whipping rope is a core sailing skill which is easy to learn and great to know to help you maintain your boat. More than five families abandon their homes carved into the mountain every year. Those who remain live only thanks to the remittances of their emigrant family members. For years it has been a site visited by thousands of tourists, but after the pandemic this resource has also been considerably reduced. But there remains the magic of a place where history and legends keep alive what is still today a magic work of nature and man
