Escapade choisira la marina de Quinto do Lorde à l'Est de Madère pour découvrir cette île étonnante. Au programme randonnées et balades ! Infos et Astuces : Cette année, les ports sont pris d'assaut... Réserver est donc mission impossible ! Nous avons dû aller au culot afin d'avoir une place. La marina est calme, les services au minimum (restaurant, épicerie, laverie, wifi). Le coût est raisonnable (hors réduction STW de 40%) 26€ par jour. Un petit shipchandler géré par un français est installé sur la marina, nous en avons trouvé un autre très bien achalandé à Cancela (sortie 14 vers Funchal, à 20mn) qui se nomme Nautica Madeira. Concernant les déplacements, les bus sont présents mais la location de voiture reste nécessaire. Le mouillage à Funchal est très rouleur, et il y est compliqué d'accoster. Le gasoil est nettement plus cher, nous avions anticiper en faisant le plein et les réserves à Lisbonne. This is Raja Ampat: the undisputed epicenter of marine biodiversity and one of the richest marine Ecosystems in the World. The Raja Ampat archipelago (which when translated to English, means ‘Four Kings’) encompasses 40,000 square km’s of land and sea, consisting of over 1,500 islets which surround the 4 main islands of Misool, Batanta, Salawati & Waigeo. The first comprehensive scientific study of the area was conducted as recently as 2001, and a record-breaking census found nearly 1,000 previously unknown tropical fish species. With the unearthing of Raja Ampat’s biodiversity still in progress, international conservation groups, in partnership with local communities and government, established 7 ecologically connected marine protected areas (MPA) in 2007, and another 5 across the Birds Head Peninsula have been added since. The relative remoteness of Raja Ampat has been the region’s greatest defense against overuse and exploitation, resulting in a pristine ecosystem unfettered by the maelstroms of industrialization with ecological wealth unsurpassed anywhere else on the planet. Calico Jack‘s crew have a distinct passion and reverence for the natural world. They explored these regions avidly; plotting out a journey that would reveal Raja Ampat’s finest topographical and underwater wonders to share with like-minded individuals. Hands up if you’d enjoy cruising the world in one of these - a Garcia Explocat 52. We have tons of storage space in our Exploration 45, but I think there’d be more in a twin-hull 52. When we saw it a couple of days ago my boat neighbour Michel pointed out an advantage with a cat - the way a beer could sit nicely on the cockpit table and not tumble off during a lean.

We spend a few nights on Santa Cruz island but the island is a protected nature conservancy so dogs are NOT ALLOWED. So we move on for a overnight sail to Catalina island and we run head on into the worst storm yet! Its time to buckle up and take your hands off the standing rigging, its going to get shocking!

Welcome back- today we head only 7 miles from the house to the Gower Fresh Christmas Tree Farm, to (you guessed it!) pick some Pumpkins. Each year, they bring in food stands, animals and let you pick your own pumpkins and this year, it was much bigger than last time. We spent the afternoon dodging mud and soaking in all the Autumnal colours before heading back and making my first ever Pumpkin pie. A few days later (with Halloween passed!) i finally find time to carve my pumpkin- it definitely wasn't the best job! Haha. This week we take you with us as we do our fruit and veggie provisioning in the remote atoll of Fakarava, in French Polynesia. The ship comes every Wednesday to this atoll, one of a handful atoll’s that actually gets provisions from the main island of Tahiti. All the yachties and locals alike is waiting at the door to the store to get their hands on all the greens. It gets quite busy and people can be a bit hostile. After that we pick up anchor and off we go to the next remote atoll. Exiting the pass of Fakarava, kieran misjudged the sea state outside the atoll and Merewether gets smashed with some crazy seas. Luckily I closed all the windows *coughing*, smart girl. Dancing and having fun while we slowly sail up towards Toao atoll where our mates awaits. Oh how we love this life! Join our crew! In our last few days aboard the Beneteau 48 on our sailing trip around the Amalfi Coast we get into some more exploring, checking out the town of Amalfi itself. After a forecast of no wind for a few days, we were pleasantly surprised when we set sail to go to our next location that we were able to get the sails hoisted. Trying to squeeze out as much sightseeing as possible, we headed to the Ischia on ferry to see the Aragon Castle of Ischia on our last day. Finally, we headed back to the marina to drop the boat off and I received a fantastic docking lesson from the sailing instructor extraordinaire, John Kretchmer. Off course its a race! Ever heard about two sailboats not racing each other? We had so much fun sailing from Carriacou and seeing how different our #BAVARIA and #BENETEAU perform. It's amazing to sail two boats and not only comparing how they perform under the exact same conditions, but also sharing photos and videos later. Season 8 : Hawaiian Adventures : Episode #212 On this weeks video I get my custom stainless steel tangs back from the fabricator here in Honolulu and dive on the boat to complete the jury repair of Triteia's broken rudder. Thanks to Sarah for handing me everything I needed and being dock support as well as filming. The repair took a total of 3.5 hours and gave me a new found respect for old timey shipwrights. Hammering under water is very hard work and using a hand drill while scuba diving was not a skill I can say I had before this project. We left behind the front cabin for a while and now it is time to catch up on those little jobs. We also dived into the engine room for the first time in months to fix the panel for the electrics. Cutting holes in the dam roof for all the ventilation system. That will be an on going job as apparently we need so many to be able to get the safety certificate forth River Thames. We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.
