Die LETZTE Etappe beginnt! 8 Stunden ohne Wind, nur mit dem Motor von Wentdorf nach Heiligenhafen Moin! Die Überfahrt geht weiter! Wir starten unsere letzte Etappe für diese Saison, endlich Richtung Neustadt. Das Wetter war mal wieder super, allerdings wollte der Wind mal wieder nich to wie wir. Dadurch hatten wir leider ein bisschen Welle und wurden gang gut durchgeschaukelt. Schön, dass du hier bist! Wir, Emely und Tjark, haben uns den Traum vom eigenen Segelboot erfüllt, eine Maxi84, relativ spontan und ohne das ganz große Geld. Das Boot müssen wir noch umtaufen auf den Namen Meera. Wir nehmen dich mit auf unsere Reise von blutigen Anfängern zu hoffentlich passablen Seglern. Bevor wir uns in die Wellen stürzen können, liegt noch ein Berg an Arbeit vor uns. We absolutely loved Bocas Town. It had so many cool spots to eat, shop and explore. We were lucky enough to visit just as Panama was starting to open up again after the lockdown, so although some of the restaurants were not completely up and running we got to experience a little bit of what a vibe the town has in normal times. Bocas Town is a surf town. Most people who live here surf, and those that come to visit come for the fantastic surf. We were beginners, and the breaks around Bocas were perfect. In fact they were perfect for all levels! We also loved the shops in Bocas! They had everything we needed. Such a change from being in Linton Bay were all we had was a small veg truck that came everyday. So if we needed anything other than veg it was a trip into Colon, which was and hours drive away to the big supermarkets. We hope you enjoy this video as much as we enjoyed making it. During this project, we used a variety of techniques and processes that can be useful information for many boat working projects. Toughest steel hull design is by folded steel aka Origami Method. Brent Swain introduced this method first for sailboats 40 years ago. Not a single Swain Boat has sunk despite collisions with reefs, ships and in the case of a boat named "Mungo" driven ashore in a hurricane off Mexico. The hull design allows for a foamed 2" layering of the entire interior hull surface making a dry and perfectly comfortable liveaboard, great blue water or coastal ship. The Wauquiez Hood 38 was designed by Ted Hood and based on the Bristol 38.8 and Little Harbor 38. The hulls are identical, with a modified full keel/centerboard and spade rudder below the waterline. Above the waterline, the Wauquiez has a more European appearance, with higher freeboard, a lower coachroof and much less wood trim. As an aft cockpit auxiliary Sailing Sloop/Cruise-Race, these “Swans of France” are known to be fast, comfortable and good all-around offshore boats. This is the MKI version of the Hood 38, built in Mouvaux, France. It features teak and holly floors with removable access panels, tubular stainless steel framed dodger for cockpit protection, spacious cockpit with storage lazarettes, and entry through top-down companionway hatch located forward of the sailing cockpit. Accommodations: Full forward is the anchor chain locker followed by a cabin with V berth and abundant storage. There is a private door leading to the starboard-side head with manual toilet, stainless steel sink and more storage. Moving aft through a teak door there is a port-side hanging locker, and opposite there is a second door leading to the forward head. As you move further aft you enter the cozy salon with settee to port and dinette to starboard, both with storage below and behind. Continuing aft is the galley area which is equipped with double stainless steel sinks, a marine propane stove with oven, chest refrigerator and adequate storage and work surfaces. To port you’ll find the nav station, equipped with navigation and communications equipment and the vessel’s main electrical panel. This is followed by a cabin with starboard-side double berth, small head compartment and stainless steel sink. There is a centerline companionway leading up to the deck. The engine room is below the companionway with adequate insulation and access.

In addition to this, I spent some days at our previous location in Sequim, sorting and removing some large piles of timber and catching up with Pancho. Things did not go as planned in any way during my attempt to sail from Faroe Islands to Iceland- on my way to east Greenland. Some times you just have to accept being defeated. This vid goes through the first sea trials we did on Paikea after our recent modifications. We had already taken Paikea out under motor to test the front beam, longeron, rudders, folding propellers, flush skin fittings, and new antifoul paint. Next step was to test how the boat handled sails and the associated loads. We wanted to proof load the rig and the front beam before setting sail again on our journey.
