Plastic pollution has no borders. Today, we know that isolated voluntary commitments are not sufficient. The 2020 report Breaking the Plastic Wave has shown that current government and industry commitments are likely to reduce annual plastic leakage to the ocean by only 7 per cent by 2040. We need more than ever to share a common vision and set clear goals towards this complex crisis by driving a drastic change in the whole plastic life cycle (extraction, production, use, end of life). An increasing number of governments jointly with NGO’s, scientists, industries, and other major groups, including a huge engagement from the youth, are calling for a comprehensive approach to prevent and reduce plastic pollution in all environments (air, soil, and water). The support and help of everyone are required to find a way out of this urgent crisis. We all hope, February 2022 UNEA 5.2 will officialize the road towards a legally binding agreement with the creation of an Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee mandated to lead the discussions until the conclusion of the treaty by UNEA 6 in 2024. Only a coupe of months in the water after a fresh coat of bottom paint and the hull is covered in growth. To make matters worse, I applied HARD antifoul paint and its very soft and has in places already disappeared. Three years ago I applied the same brand and paint type(International Ultra 2) and was very happy with how it lasted so applied the same again. A very different outcome this time! The one thing that is guaranteed to happen on an offshore passage this long, is that stuff is going to break. Our job before departure is to have a solid risk management plan, making sure that we either have redundancy in case of a critical system failure, as well spare parts or tools to repair anything that could break. We’ve had a great passage since we left Bermuda with no incidents to report until this morning at 3:45 AM. Whenever I take over a watch from Ryan, I do not set an alarm, as I enjoy having him waking me up with a cuddle (yes I am that kind of person), and he sometimes let me sleep a little longer than planned. But there was no extra sleep or cuddle this morning when he came to wake me up. City Sailing Sea Survival Day We take to the pool for a full day of sea survival for a team of pilots and doctors. This is a bespoke course for both land and sea survival. We cover the principles of Sea Survival in the morning in the pool looking at liferafts and lifejackets. In the afternoon we test them out in real-life conditions in the underwater film studio purpose-built pool.

Woke up early for a sunrise sail. I have an American 14.6 Sailboat. It was a beautiful morning with around 9 knots of wind and a few gusts. Temp was around 50 degrees F so a bit chilly for me.

Nous voilà de retour après un petit moment d'absence ! Depuis notre départ des Marquises pour le Panama, il s'est passé beaucoup de choses... Une grosse casse sur le mât nous a contraints à abandonner la traversée 😕 Pour différentes raisons, nous n'avions plus le temps de retenter cette navigation vers le Panama. Nous avons donc décidé d'entamer une descente vers Tahiti qui a duré 10 jours. Alors après quelques jours de deuil, l'Atoll paradisiaque de Fakarava nous aura plus que redonné le sourire !
