Rebecca Childress and Michael Hayward sail away from Ascension Island with their relationship on the rocks...with 3100 miles to sail on Rebecca's 1976 Valiant 40 sailboat "Brick House'. This Chris Craft Launch has lots of nice upgrades, bow thruster, tandem axle EZ loader trailer, winter cover, winter tarp, sailors choice exhaust, 2 batteries, bimini top, tonneau cover, lots of teak throughout the boat. There are lots of storage compartments also. There are even lifting points as this boat was the Tender to MV Talitha an 80meter yacht owned by the Getty family.

On route from Indonesia to Darwin, Australia this Tayana 37 ran into problems and the decision was made to abandon ship. The 2 crew were picked up by a passing ship and the sailboat was set adrift. It floated around in the currents for5 weeks before being recovered back close to were the voyage began. After a fair bit of hassle the boat was returned to an anchorage on Rote island but then, 2 weeks later in a nasty westerly blow she was sunk on the reef. I interviewed the man who recovered her and got his side of the story. With no updated weather forecast and no way to keep contact with shore to tell them that we were OK, we tried to activate our Garmin InReach, a satellite tracker that we kept as a backup. While we believed that the InReach would allow us to reconnect with our shore support Willem, and our weather router Charlie, we quickly realized that without an active data plan (which required an internet connection to activate), our InReach was absolutely worthless. Luckily, after two days without satellite communication, we passed a tanker ship that helped us contact Willem and pass along all the information he needed to activate the InReach's data plan. Unfortunately, 48 hours after being in touch with Willem via the tanker ship, our inReach is still not functioning. Another day, another island on our sailboat. We are on UNI holidays and we are scuba diving to celebrate! We have created a Patreon account, if you have been enjoying this production you can help support it continuing into the future here https://www.patreon.com/sailingnakama After rushing around the marina getting the boat back together after finishing exams, we are eager to get back out on the water and sail back out to the Whitsunday Islands. We are exploring new territory, the pristine northern end. We are invited scuba diving with some newly found fellow yachty friends that have A LOT of dive gear aboard. We're awake early and head over to Black Island where the reef extends and provides a beautiful soft coral wall. It has been a while since Slim & Soph have dived but Phil, being a qualified dive instructor had us down 15 metres with no trouble at all. Before the day reached midday we had already seen a whole underwater world. We cruise around for the afternoon, feeding the batfish off the back of the boat to wake again early the next morning to attempt to pick up a mooring at Blue Pearl Bay, where the moorings are limited and very popular. To our disappointment, there were no free moorings available, in 18 metres of water we dropped ALL of our chain. Only to turn around and see the boat behind us was dropping their mooring...we picked the 50 odd metres of chain back up and jumped onto the mooring. Now we can enjoy the beautiful bay that keeps hidden a secluded beach in its far northern corner. We think it's the best beach we have been to.
