This is Prebens journey back across the atlantic
We see a storm is coming towards us and try to avoid the worst of it. Mission not succeeded. We are hit by 10 meters waves and 60 knots of wind. Our foresail get stuck and rips and the engine stops working in the start of the storm.
The days before the predicted storm is calm. We take advantage of the calm sea and eat well and see lots of whales and a shark.
The second week tests our patience. The wind is light or absent. We can also see a huge low pressure coming towards us and we need to position us so it does not hit us on it´s worst. At the same time we are getting low on fuel so our options are limited.
Finally we have a weather window that could work. We leave St. Martin and go upwind the first week. We are getting to know the boat and what heeling means.
We arrive in St. Martin and prepare Urge explorer for sale. The new owner arrive. After the handover, Preben moves to Xanthippe and Odd-Tørres and Pia moves over to Cessa. It is time to prepare for a new crossing. And explore the island.
Barbuda has long untouched beaches, wind and crystal clear water. This is our last stop before we head to St. Martin to sell the boat. Let´s enjoy!
We put our boat out for sale in February. Here are the process from start to almost finish.
Preben´s family comes to visit in Martinique and Odd-Tørres and Pia leaves Urge explorer to take their diving license. Then we sail to Guadeloupe and Od-Tørres and Pia´s family comes to visit. Guadeloupe is explored while Preben joins Cessa and sail to Antigua.
Reunited with SY Cessa and SY Xanthippe at Guadeloupe.
We are still in the Grenadines. Mostly kiting and snorkeling. We also found a volleyball net. That ended up in an all nighter with some Belgians.
It is an adventure every time we freedive at Tobago cays. We say goodbye to Ingvild and Alex, and welcome Simen. When we stop by Rum-runners´ Island we meet Jack Sparrow.
Here is some kiting from windy days at JT pro center at Union Island and some snorkelling and foiling at Tobago Cays.
Ingvild and Alex join us for a couple of weeks. We visit Frigate, Palm Island, Mayreau and Tobago Cays. Kiting and snorkeling and some drama at the anchorage!
Frigate is an awesome flatwater spot at Union Island. Check it out!
We wrap up our Bequia stay with some free diving/ scuba diving and head for Union Island. It´s finally time to kite kite kite!
We spend a couple of weeks in Barbados. We meet up with friends from Norway, meet many new kite friends, join a kite competition and snorkle before we sail on to Bequia for Christmas celebration.
First a sum up of everyday life across the Atlantic. Suddenly our GPS signal is lost, and we feel lost since we cannot see where we are on the map. Several days with error searching follows. But as the title reveals, we find land!
We are hit by several squalls. Our main sail and gennaker gets out of play, so we need to do some repairs. That includes getting up the mast in 3-4 meters waves!
We have some calm and idyllic days, swimming in rope behind the boat, fishing and celebrating Alf´s birthday. The idyll ends abruptly, when we go for a swim in a bit rougher conditions. We use a harness when we hang after the boat. The hook breaks and we have a man over board!
