Welcome to Episode 44 of Carpe Diem Sailing, in this episode I go over coming about or tacking single handed. I demonstrate the manoeuvre with and without an auto pilot. One point to keep in mind is that I am only dealing with the headsail since when coming about from close hauled to close hauled the mainsail should be sheeted amidships and is self tending. For simplicity in this video the traveler remained centered. If using the traveller to trim the mainsail the traveller is adjusted after the boat is on course and after the headsail is trimmed. Can you believe it? He still loves me even after 2 weeks sailing across the Pacific Ocean. It can be challenging but we certainly did it. We made it safely across the Pacific Ocean from Hawaii to Washington State in the Pacific Northwest. It's a lot colder than we had expected but nonetheless we made it and the experience sailing the higher latitudes was incredible. Repairing a boat is always full of surprises. All you can hope for is that the job will take about as much time and and about as much work as you expected, but typically it will always take longer, be harder, and be more expensive. This week was a tough one. We find out our brand new laptop is broken, and are finding it incredibly difficult to get a work-a-round for the solar panels. So, we head off to a bay, with no water and no power in the hopes it reinvigerates us! It defiinitely did not dissapoint, with an incredibly rain storm. We clean the boat, get showers and get a bit of extra water for the tanks! This one isnt the most fun, or the most positive, but its real, and authentic to how we were in this exact moment.
