We are in Nara Inlet in the Whitsundays which is home to the caves that are marked by those that lived here for 9000 years, 2,500 year ago, the Ngaro people, the sea people. It's amazing to think what life must have been like all those many years ago...Simon wakes up to find a nasty rash on his leg and we decided to go show a doctor, this means we made the trip back to Airlie Beach, the doctor said it would most likely heal on its own so we went back out to the islands...the next day the rash was even bigger so we made the trip BACK to Airlie Beach to fill the script we should have done in the first place. Nevertheless, it gave us time to make some pancakes! wooo! We didn't stick around town for long, we pulled up anchor and made tracks back out to the islands. We had a beautiful sail until the wind dropped out on us and then decided to funnel through the passage and greet us with winds exactly on the nose. We are determined to find a place with great swimming water so we take a chance at Chance Bay and we are very happy with our decision. Oh and our outboard seems to continue breaking down on us...no worries though! Our first meal onboard the boat and a full (but small) galley tour. We cook a prawn risotto with the wrong wine and what we have on board! Any questions please ask below! Ingredients for any one interested (for 2 people) All veg fine dice. - 2 x sticks of celery - 2 x cloves of garlic - 1 x carrot (optional) - 1 x Leek (optional) - 1 x shallot - 50g butter - 4 tsps extra virgin olive oil - 50g parmesan (more if you wish) - bunch of parsley - 200g raw prawns - 1 x bunch asparagus - 1 glass white wine (or red if you haven't got any) - 2 tsps white wine vinegar (or whatever you have to hand) - salt and pepper to taste Stock - All veg trimmings - Ideally fresh herbs but dry will do - Thyme, Bay leaves, Oregano - 1 x fish stock, veg stock or chicken stock - This recipe can be altered for chicken, mushroom, veg, pea and mint, lobster, monkfish, etc... the principle is the same as is the method. Some of our family have arrived on the Island of Crete to spend Christmas with us after their flights home to South Africa were cancelled due to Covid red-listing. Our friends, Maryke and Nick, also had their flights to SA cancelled. They join us as we celebrate together in true South African style, with a braai (barbecue) on the beach on Christmas Eve. There are family members missing from our celebrations, and they are greatly missed. We are grateful for our health and for the love of friends and family on this glorious Christmas Eve. Kathy gets stung by jellyfish after a daring swim in the chilly sea. Spearfishing while Free Diving is a challenging sport, in which you explore the ocean depths deprived of air while attempting to solve a meal by pure cunning and albeit with some courage. It is the type of hunting that brings to bear the most primal human instincts in their purest forms, as the diver plays hide and seek with the prey in their own environment, and the prey clearly knows what you are trying to do to them, thus making the kill quite a challenge. Added to that you are swimming in open ocean, with considerable waves and current and surrounded by sharks and barracudas that want to snatch and run with your wounded prey. For many people the word hunting or fishing is a no-no, and this is understandable. But before you reject the idea out of the bat, just bear in mind that for us that spear fish, we replace a purchased meal with one caught in the ocean, and in doing so we avoid animal welfare issues of domestic animals, while only harvesting permissible species following the conservation rules of the place, in this case the Bahamas. By watching this video you will get a better understanding of this fascinating sport.

Sailing along the Turkish Coast sometimes means crossing into Greek waters! We sail from Bodrum to Marmaris stopping at small towns and anchorages along the way. We do a 5 hour passage with our friends onboard and show them what real sailing is, we experience 35 knot wind gusts, sailing with a reef in the main. It’s time to convert Nutshell’s American power points to something a little more useful. We have decided to change a few of the sockets to Australian. But, our power points are white, so Wendy spends time with the paint pot camouflaging them to blend in with Nutshell’s wooden interior. We head ashore to do the hike to the top of Cooks Look track on Lizard Island. Wendy pokes around the beach area and finds a lovely campground. It’s time to leave Lizard and continue on our journey. We snag a good sized Spanish Mackerel but unfortunately lose one of our brand new lures! We arrive at Howick Island and head into the mangroves to do some mud crabbing. Close encounters with Crocodiles are not on our bucket list, in fact we hope to never see them! We spent a couple of days anchored in a beautiful remote bay, swimming in the amazing cool waters of a nearby river, catching a few fish and generally just enjoyed being out exploring again. One evening we spoke with a group of fishermen who told us the whole area as well as the river we'd been swimming in, was well know to have many crocodiles, some 6m long! We felt quite lucky to survive, ignorance is bliss I guess. The next day we sailed to another bay, along the way seeing a Whale Shark for the first time. Dolphins greeted us at the next anchorage. In this video we will present one approach for adjusting rig tension in foldable trimarans (e.g. Farrier/Corsair) that require you to slacken the rig in order to fold the boat. This is normally accomplished with Highfield levers for traditional steel rigging, but sailors often want something lighter for synthetic rigging. We had an awesome time swimming in the Arctic Ocean!

#wegotit #whatnow #vanlife Having recovered from the virus, finishing our quarantine and get a negative result, we are free again to have a second try to go to Portugal. We then set off to get through France with all their restrictions for British travellers. We decided to use Carla's Portuguese citizenship to get across the border and in to France. As we are married and Simon has Portuguese residency they let us pass through. On the news they said we would only have 24 hours to cross France but no-one told us that so we took our planned time and route. We planned a 3 days journey staying in a hotel for the overnight in France and Spain. Dobby absolutely loves going in the Van so we don't have any problems with that. After three days we arrive in the beautiful sunny Algarve on the south coast of Portugal. We are so pleased to be here and enjoy the sun for 2 months! We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.

Letzte Woche sind wir mit dem Wohnmobil zufällig an einem Strand gelandet, an dem wir eigentlich nur Wasser auffüllen wollten. Die erste Nacht ist aber gar nicht gut. Es ist so laut, dass wir kein Auge schließen können. Dennoch sind wir geblieben und haben eine mega gute Zeit. Ungeplant verbringen wir ein paar Wochen in Gemeinschaft und genießen jede Minute. Auch wenn sie unsere halbe Garage einnehmen, sind wir froh, dass wir die Fahrräder dabei haben. Wir machen einen Ausflug, der anstrengender wird als gedacht. Wir nehmen euch mit auf einen türkischen Markt, geben euch mal wieder einen Einblick ins wahre Vanlife und machen einen Ausflug zu den ewigen Feuern von Chimaera. אחרי כמעט חודשיים סוף סוף סיימנו את יוון ויצאנו לחצות את הים האדריאטי עד לארץ המגף. יש הרגשה מיוחדת לצאת בחושך של לפנות הבוקר להפלגה ולגלות מדינה חדשה. סוף סוף גם הגיעה כננת העוגן החדשה והבנו שמעכשיו החיים הולכים להיות קלים יותר. נתקין את הכננת ונרים את העוגן לקראת הרפתקאות חדשות נופים אוכל אנשים והרבה הרבה ים. רגע לפני שאנחנו עוזבים את יוון החלטנו להקדיש עוד כמה דקות בשביל להיזכר בכל מה שעברנו עד עכשיו וכול הנופים והחוויות שהכי אהבנו ביוון בינינו אין על יוון כל כך יפה אוכל טוב אנשים טובים ומפרצים בשפע ממש מגרש משחקים לקרוזרים. ההילייטס: 1.
