The questions we most often get asked are "What's it like to live on a boat and cruise the world ?" and "How much does it cost?" These are difficult questions which is why we've avoided them for three years! But the time has come. In this video we go through our whole experience so far. Five years of living on a boat and three years of cruising. We try and give some insight into the life and the costs. The reason we tried to sidestep this video until now is because there are plenty of other videos out there on the cost of sailing. However, it has been pointed out to us that just about all of them are people in their 20s and 30s, most trying to do this on an absolute minimum budget. As we know, YouTubers aside, the vast majority of cruisers out there on the water are in their 50s and 60s so this one's for you guys. I know there will be a million questions so fire ahead in the comments. I'll anticipate one and answer no, I have no idea how much I spend on beer! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PLEASE DO SUBSCRIBE - IT COSTS YOU NOTHING AND HELPS US OUT WITH THE YOU TUBE ALGORITHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rather see our videos without ads?... SONNY Sparkman & Stephens 53 ft / 16 m Sloop 1935/2012 https://www.sandemanyachtcompany.co.uk/yacht/623/SONNY One of the most sought-after books on the designs of #sparkman & Stephens is titled ‘The Best of the Best’. Undoubtedly, SONNY is one: a fabulous example from the heady #1930s, when the focused minds of two New Yorkers only in their 20s, Olin and Rod Stephens, rapidly evolved the fast, efficient, yet comfortable moderate displacement offshore #sailing #yacht to a point where it couldn’t be bettered. For the past 25 years this has been celebrated in #revival and #restoration, particularly of the handy-sized 50+ feet cousins of STORMY WEATHER. SONNY’s treatment, care and regatta success both sides of the #Atlantic over 20 years has been the best of the best. That, and her story, abilities, and sheer good looks make SONNY such an enticing prospect.

It was a slip, slop, slap kind of day in Auckland for Day 1 of the Cassidy Construction P Class Tanner Cup, with the temperature gauge almost off the chart - a perfect summers day to kick off the regatta at Murrays Bay Sailing Club. The Tanner Cup is the inter-provisional regatta where sailors represent their region. For this event, there are 18 sailors in the fleet. The Tauranga Cup, which is the National Championship, starts on Friday, with 53 sailors ready to race. Live Sail Die resident expert Cameron Dunn, who is also the Commodore at Murrays Bay, was watching the action unfold as the sailors settled into their rhythm. It was a challenging day for some, especially in Race 2 where there was seven UFDs. Ouch. Three races were completed as per the schedule with a different sailor taking the gun for each race. Sitting in the top three are those three sailors, William Mason, Joe Leith and Oli Stone, with Joe and Oli sitting on equal points (9) after those three races. Post-race, Cam chatted with North Harbour representative Blake McKinnon, currently sitting 5th overall, who said he had a bit of an "up and down" day. When asked about an "incident" Blake said that he wasn't sure if he was in the wrong, so did some turns regardless. "Oh yeah, I think I did mostly the best I could, finished the day with some good results with no horrible races," said Blake to Cam after the racing. Blake's dad, Grant "Grunta" McKinnon, who was watching from the sideline descried the day as... frustrating! "It was frustrating!!! The difference between this and the Auckland Champs, which was his first outing in a big fleet in the P, is that everyone has qualified to be here. So you've got the best sailors lining up," said Grunta. "I'm glad I wasn't sailing - I couldn't pick any of the shifts out there!" continued Grunta. Racing continues and wraps up tomorrow for the Tanner Cup, with racing getting underway at 1200 hours. The PredictWind forecast is showing 10-14 knots from the south west at race time for the final day of Tanner Cup racing. Top 5 After 3 Races 1. William Mason (North Harbour / Wakatere Boating Club) 1, 2, 4 - 7 2. Joe Leith (North Harbour / Murrays Bay Sailing Club) 6, 1, 2 - 9 3. Oli Stone (Auckland / Kohimarama Yacht Club) 5, 3, 1 - 9 4. Nathan Soper (North Harbour / Murrays Bay Sailing Club) 4, 4, 6 - 14 5. Blake McKinnon (North Harbour / Murrays Bay Sailing Club) 5, 3, 7 - 15It was a slip, slop, slap kind of day in Auckland for Day 1 of the Cassidy Construction P Class Tanner Cup, with the temperature gauge almost off the chart - a perfect summers day to kick off the regatta at Murrays Bay Sailing Club. Bedankt! Mijn zeilboot is een 27 voet Grinde, genaamd Loveworkx. It's the first race of the season due to the lock-downs and I'm asked if I will help out on the safety boats for the race. Of course i'll have to put up with charging around at 35 knots and being regaled with sailing stories all day by the club bosun! I think I learn more in one day about sailing than I knew already as well as having a really nice day getting to know loads of people. 00:00 A slow start to the day 00:52 Assessing the weather 01:31 Laying markers for the race 02:39 35 Knots back up the lake 03:29 The boats line up at the start 03:56 2 Minutes to go! 04:20 And they're off! 05:30 Some images of the day
