The battery box for our Electric Motor, Inverter and everything else is now glassed in and has a temporary lid that will form the floor of the saloon. Plus after some unboxing we are ready to describe the carbon fibre structure we are going to build for our solar panels. It is fair to describe this as novel, experimental and unique :-) We are refitting a 1977 Rival 38 Centre Cockpit Ketch for zero fossil fuel world cruising. Full steam ahead! Bewitching BALLAST, seductive SUPERSTRUCTURE, captivating COMPRESSION TEST | Ep. 29 Only 6 weeks left until we need to get back into the water, are we going to make it??!! This week we continued the fibreglass work for resealing part of the old water ballast tank to use with drinking water. We found the reason that the sail drive was leaking oil and re-compression tested the engine - will all our hard work have paid off? We also reveal a major job we had to do that we'd forgotten to mention before which begins with b and ends with m! We put the batteries back and did a lot of welding work which looks great - go take a look! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you enjoyed this video please consider supporting us on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/SailingNV or with a one-off donation via https://ko-fi.com/sailingnv or paypal https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/sailingnv -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Caio! We are Timo and Jo, an Italian and English couple with countless ocean miles under our belts, including sailing half way around the world from Europe to Fiji! Last year we bought an Open 66 ft race sailing boat originally designed and built by the famous Hungarian sailor Nándor Fa, which he raced in the 1990 Around Alone & 1992 Vendée Globe (round the world single handed race known as “the Everest of the seas”), becoming the first non-frenchman to finish the race. We are currently in Fiji giving this old gladiator a new lease on life, transforming her from an ex race boat to a performance family cruiser, which we'll need to make both dog and baby proof! We’re planning to set sail again in Oct 2022, so with limited time&money we have plenty of challenges ahead to turn our dreams into reality&get back on the water! Subscribe to our channel&track our progress as we release videos about our journey as well as "how to" videos about anything boat related. Never stop to dream, never stop to sail!

This week mum and I walked from Whitchurch to Grindley Brook visitor moorings. We checked out the lift bridge, boaters services, the Grindley Brook staircase locks (locks 1-3), The Lockside Cafe, the three stand alone locks (Grindley Brook Locks 4-6), and finally, the Visitor Moorings before turning to head back. This was a literal dry run of this section of the canal which would be part of any trip to a boatyard for hull work. The staircase is also the first locks we would come to on any trip out in the boat. I hope you enjoy the trip! https://www.facebook.com/GrindleybrookLocksideCafe/

This FRANCHINI EMOZIONE 55 with eye-catching light blue/grey hull, elegant lines and luxury finishes is a stylish motor yacht with modern features inspired by the traditional lobster boat. She has wide teak decks, an ample foredeck, a huge bathing platform and an electric opening garage aft for the tender. She is very well equipped with bow thruster, generator, water maker, hydraulic gangway, complete navigation package, tender, life raft, air conditioning, etc. The wheel house, which is on the same level as the aft deck, benefits from great panoramic views and consists of a well laid out steering area, a large sofa and a galley. Down below is an ample master cabin with en suite fore and two VIP cabins with bathroom aft. There is also an additional crew cabin which can be entered via the aft deck. She is classic and contemporary at the same time and she is designed and built for those who want to ride in comfort and style ** This Franchini has been sold by us. Emerald Bay dive site. The Jewel in Tulamben. This site can be reached with a 10min ride by Jukung, just to the south east of Tulamben Bay. For the more adventures, this can also be a shore dive, but be aware of the fisherman in the small bay. They don’t like scuba divers swimming over their fishing lines . Basically one ‘step’ on from Batu Kelebit, with an average depth of 20m. A sloping reef, beginning in a small bay, will lead you over dramatic and beautiful ridges covered in a variety of hard coral and amazing sponge formations, eventually leading to a sandy bottom at around 50 meter. You will find a good amount of marine animals including large pelagic fish in the deeper water. Although most of the time, the water is calm, strong currents can turn this into a drift dive. On calm days, open water divers can also enjoy this dive site since the shallower water has some impressive and healthy coral teaming with vibrant reef fish. If you want to go for a picnic, the table and seat is close to the bay entry point and at 14m. Enjoy your picnic. Sailing from Rhodes to Crete in Greece, planned overnight passages, Rough weather, choppy swell, and tired crew! What a sail! Its not all sunshine, bikini's and champagne sailing This week we plan our first overnight passage, but it doesn't quiet go to plan, as per usual, when you plan these things sailing! We make our way from Rhodes in the Dodecanese Islands to Crete, Greece's largest Island, but unfortunately we don't end up going the whole way, we get stuck in some pretty heavy weather and end up reverting to Karpathos But as these things go, we still had to endure hours of messy swell and strong wind to arrive at a safe anchorage! We hope you enjoy coming along for the ride with us! We're definitely getting more confident in these conditions and even though it was a tough day, those days are what give us the experience! You must be thinking- surely they can't have another leak? And well, we don't blame you because that is exactly what we thought. However, with Becka's birthday (or boathday as Zach likes to say) fast approaching, we had to crack on and get it pulled up and resealed in time for the weather closing in later in the week. 〰️〰️〰️〰️ Episode 13 I Chapter 1: Beginning Boat Life [UK] 〰️〰️〰️〰️ 👪 Join the Tribe on our *Patreon* https://www.patreon.com/teulutribe 👕Pick up some *Merch* https://www.teulutribe.com/ 📷 Find us over on *Instagram* https://www.instagram.com/teulutribe/ 💬 Connect with us on *Facebook* https://www.facebook.com/teulutribe/ 🛠️ Teulu’s always trying to break herself, our *Amazon Wishlist* is here https://www.amazon.co.uk/hz/wishlist/ls/2045NNIGRTMQT?ref_=wl_share ☕ Treat us to a *Cup of Tea* https://www.buymeacoffee.com/teulutribe 📧 *Business Enquires* teulutribe@gmail.com ☑️ *Subscribe* for a new video every Monday *About Our Boat* - Name pronunciation (Tay-Lee), its Welsh, feel free to call her Too-Loo/Te-a-lu/Teaugukug/Tulu - 1987 Colvic Victor Ketch - 40ft/12m - Two Cabins - Encapsulated Keel and Skeg-Hung Rudder - 13 Tonnes *About Us* We are Becka and Zach, a couple who, in 2020, dreamt of sailing off into the big blue. Trouble is- we were in a pandemic, had a university degree to finish, on a student budget, only had ever sailed dingies, oh and didn’t have a boat. The dream seemed not only unrealistic but pretty insane. However, we worked hard, finished our degrees, worked as many hours as physically possible, saved with all our might, got experience and in March 2022 bought our very own sailboat, Teulu. Having little sailing experience and being a young couple, we have encountered a tonne of hurdles and made plenty of mistakes! but for every downfall, there has always been a reason to dust ourselves off and carry on. This interview is with Xavier the project manager at Seanapps, discussing all of the features and how it will be a great edition to any Lagoon. "We started in 2019 from a blank page. The idea was to connect boats in order to help and ease the services for boat owners and starting from this idea we developed Seanapps. Seanapps is a small box that we put into all the boats and this box gathered data out of different type of equipment so security like for example the GPS location but it can also be the battery levels engine data or it can be navigation information or comfort like temperature into the boat water temperature all this kind of information but part of that the idea is not to collect huge amount of data but to create value out of it and that's the big part of the challenge." I head west for what I think will be a 20 day trans-Atlantic passage to Bermuda (on an unusual route, at an unusual time of year - May). Loss of use of the spinnaker coupled with a rapidly descending high pressure zone, adds more than a thousand miles to the adventure.......

In low winds, I turn off the electric autopilot and experiment with 'sheet to tiller' steering; I show tools/spares brought along to ensure a reasonable level of autonomy; I show the wide variation in suggested routings and discuss the basic underpinnings of navigation on sailboats; Sargasso seaweed is a perpetual problem - I demo my technique for clearing the fouling. I did not film the arrival, because I arrived at 0230 on a very dark night. I ask: was this passage an ordeal, or an adventure?

With a shortage of cable crimps and sleeving it all gets a bit desperate to finish the electrics.   We then have a bit of a blow when we get the cost for the CE marking for the boat. Apparently we need a Recreational Craft Directive which we didn’t know about. We thought we would be into the 5 years exception, but for that you need to cruise the boat for 5 years. So there you go, some £££ out of the window.  But we do get a lot of work finished with the console and the main companion way steps, they look stunning! Follow our blog with our daily adventures on Facebook . We post our route everyday, showing you the ups and downs of sailing. An amazing adventure documented every single day. Loads of fresh fish as we catch so much. https://www.facebook.com/healthyonboard/ Please like and share all of that to help us going on this adventure. We are really enjoying this life and sharing everything with you it's been wonderful . Thank you very much, you guys are amazing supporting us with your likes and comments, we really feel that we have a new family out there. Much love Carla & Simon A little bit about us... We met in the summer 2015, we were introduced to each other by the virtual world. Eighteen months later we were getting married on a beautiful beach on Barbados, bare foot, very simple ceremony just like a dream! Two days after the wedding laying on the beach, talking about sailing, Carla suggested... why don't we sail around the world? Guess what Simon said? "Let's do it" He took it with no second thoughts! And here we are, two years after that day in Barbados, we started our adventure in Croatia. We made it happen working through all the challenges on the way. Now we are enjoying this wonderful life, and what a wonderful life it is! As we travel we will cross less fortunate countries, we would love to help to build a school or a health care centre, anything that these people may need, and in our beautiful world this is taken for granted. But for these people it's a dream, or may not even be a dream. We will look around and when the opportunity to help comes we will put our hands and hearts in to it.

After missing two years due to COVID lockdowns the annual South Rock Race was held for the first time since 2019. The 8 boats split across IRC 1 and IRC 2 were greeted by blue sky and a solid 15 to 20 knot Northerly. With wind against tide at the bar mouth and a solid sea running on the back of the building breeze it was not clear if the race would go ahead. The Portaferry Sailing Club race committee did a great job getting the race underway, allowing the competitors to make the final call on the state of the bar when they made it to the top of the narrows. Seven of the Eight boats decided to cross the bar and were greeted by great conditions in the Irish Sea. "Going to Red" had their first hit out under IRC with their recently purchased J109, the new set of sails from Doyle helped drive them onto victory in IRC 1. With the said news during the week that Raymond Beattie had passed way while visiting the Isle of Mann on Tiger Lilly the crew on GTR flew Code flag under numeral pennant 1 in his memory. Hopefully Raymond was watching the racing for a happy place.

The work through the winter and early spring continues. As the weather has warmed, a bit, the focus has now shifted to the exterior work, mainly the hull and bottom. With a new boat every project brings more discoveries. We hadn't planned on doing a lot of work on the bottom this year but after a closer inspection it was badly in need of some immediate attention. I'm not sure how the bottom was prepared in the past, but the paint appeared to have been put on with a spatula rather than sprayed or rolled. We ended up sanding with 80 grit paper to cut through the thick layers of paint and prepare the bottom for a proper anti-fouling paint application. The hull was also a mess. It was heavily oxidized. We used a 3M heavy oxidation remover with a DA orbital polisher to cut through the haze and start to bring out a semblance of gloss. We promise more actual sailing videos to come. But the work needs to be done now before the fun can begin. Thanks for following our adventure with a new (to us) boat and all that entails. Oppure superbarche tradizionali come Rambler, Wild Oats eccetera.
