We are still struggling with depth issues and excessive weeds both on and below the surface. We managed to get out of the slip for a nice sail after dodging floating and submerged mats of weeds but not without issues. We towed a large patch of weeds out of the harbor. Once we cleared the channel we had to back down to clear the weed patch from the keel and rudder. But we did make it out and had an enjoyable day on the water. We hope you enjoy the video. It has been a challenging start to our 2025 sailing season. After a nervous ride up to Wave Pointe Marina at the end of May and a dockside pull from the Marina staff we made it into our slip. A major impediment in addition to the lower water levels was the onslaught of excessive weed growth. While the Marina treated the weeds to try to eradicate them they held us at the slip for 3 weeks. We tried to back out of the slip last week but got stuck again. This week we made it out of the slip into the fairway dragging a huge clump of weeds. But we did make it out. The saga of getting BOOMERANG out of Green Bay and up to Wave Pointe Marina for the 2025 sailing season continues. When I left The Boat Yard on the Fox River in Green Bay I was not overly confident that I could get in to our slip at Wave Pointe Marina on Little Sturgeon Bay because of the lower water levels on Lake Michigan and the Bay of Green Bay this summer. After considerable difficulty in getting the boat launched and the mast re-installed (See the previous video) it is now time to attempt to bring the BOOMERANG up to Wave Pointe Marina our summer home.

After 3 years of mild winters with less than normal rainfall and snowfall, the water levels on Lake Michigan are down considerably this year leading to innumerable problems. With the water levels being down on the Fox River, we had difficulty getting the boat launched. We had to wait for a day when the water was up enough to launch. We had the same problem with putting the mast back on. Eventually, we had to bring in an industrial crane with enough reach to be able to lift the mast out to the boat. There is also a mounting and lingering concern as to whether we will be able to get the boat into our slip at Wave Pointe Marina. For now, that is a problem for another day. Follow our journey of pre-season boat preparation from winter storage to launch day. Sometimes it raises the question of whether the time and effort are worth the result. At least for now, the answer is definitely "yes". It can at times be challenging. It can be maddingly frustrating. But it can also be satisfying bringing a sense of accomplishment. We went out for a short sail due to the lack of wind. It was a beautiful early Fall day out on the water. The excursion got exciting when we were "stopped" by the Wis. Department of Natural Resources Game Wardens. We were actually floating at a nearly dead stop due to the absence of wind. We assumed that the Wardens had nothing better to do that morning and we were an easy target. They checked us out. No citations. No warnings. They did inquire about our lack of numbers on our bow. We are registered through the US Coast Guard so no bow numbers. Our US Coast Guard Documentation Number is affixed to the hull in the interior of the boat as required by law. So all good all around. And the Wardens got to document in their records that they stopped and checked us. This was the first time since 2013 that we've been checked by the Wardens. I apologize that we didn't post any of the video of the stop. I thought it best not to do so for the benefit of the Wardens. On July 13, 2024 a family was lost and perished on the Bay of Green Bay in a wind event that preceded the arrival of a strong storm. We were in the vicinity of the tragedy before it unfolded as we delivered BOOMERANG back to Wave Pointe Marina after participating in the Egg Harbor Yacht Club Family Regatta. It is easy to forget that the Bay of Green Bay on Lake Michigan is a large body of water that can become dangerous in short order. A beautiful day can turn deadly. Our Channel is dedicated to showing the fun and comradery that can be found on the water. But this video is intended to also provide a cautionary tale that danger lurks and is always present when you venture out on to any body of water. Our condolences go out to the family of sailors.
