We head to Moyo Island, where we hire scooters and ride through the jungle to the stunning, multi-tiered limestone Mata Jitu Waterfall—also known as Lady Diana Waterfall. It earned its nickname after Princess Diana visited this remote, pristine jungle retreat in 1993. From there, we continue on to Nusa Lembongan for a couple of days of diving on exceptional coral reefs, alive with abundant fish life and the hope of spotting a sunfish. We’re impressed by just how healthy the reefs are and the sheer density of marine life, though we’re also surprised by how busy one site in particular is—Manta Point. Kahului gives you a second day in Maui, and there's a reasonable case for using it differently to the first. We hired a car and headed east — not all the way to Hana, which is a long drive for a port day, but far enough to get a proper feel for what makes this coastline worth the journey. The first stop was Baldwin Beach, a long, unhurried stretch of sand just outside Paia. It's the kind of place that doesn't ask anything of you — a good spot to ease into the morning before the road gets winding. Paia itself is a small town that repays a slow wander. It has a slightly eclectic character — surf shops alongside galleries and decent coffee — and it's noticeably more relaxed than you might expect given how close it sits to the main tourist trail. Ho'okipa Lookout comes a little further along, and it earns its reputation. The view down to the beach is genuinely striking, particularly if the wind is up and the surfers are out. It's a short stop, but a worthwhile one. Twin Falls rounds out the inland stretch well. The walk in is manageable, the falls themselves are pleasant, and it's a good place to stretch your legs before turning back. If you're pressed for time, the first falls are close to the trailhead — you don't have to go deep to get something from it. We were back on board in good time for dinner at Cagney's, which felt like a fitting way to close the day. A quiet table, a proper meal — the road to Hana has a way of making you appreciate sitting still.

In questa prova in mare scopriamo come si comporta equipaggiata con due motori Honda 150 CV, per una potenza complessiva di 300 cavalli. Uno dei punti di forza della BMA X266 è la sua grande flessibilità. La zona di poppa è stata progettata con panche a scomparsa che permettono di trasformare rapidamente il pozzetto, lasciando ampio spazio libero per la pesca oppure per le attività ricreative in navigazione. Questa soluzione rende l'imbarcazione ideale sia per gli appassionati di pesca sportiva sia per chi desidera trascorrere giornate di relax in famiglia. La console di guida è stata studiata per garantire praticità e sicurezza. Il pilota può condurre l'imbarcazione sia in piedi sia da seduto, con una posizione ergonomica e una strumentazione sempre ben visibile. Lo spazio disponibile consente l'installazione di GPS cartografico, ecoscandaglio e di tutta la strumentazione necessaria per monitorare costantemente le prestazioni dei motori Honda. Anche il comfort non è stato trascurato. All'interno della console è presente una cabina con toilette, utile durante le lunghe giornate in mare. A prua troviamo invece un ampio divano a ferro di cavallo trasformabile in un grande prendisole, perfetto per rilassarsi durante le soste o le uscite estive. La barca dispone inoltre di lavello, predisposizione per fornello e frigorifero integrato, elementi che aumentano ulteriormente la vivibilità a bordo. Durante il test analizziamo anche le prestazioni reali. La BMA X266 entra in planata in circa 4 secondi grazie alla doppia motorizzazione Honda. La velocità di crociera ideale si attesta intorno ai 18 nodi, con circa 3.400 giri motore e consumi rilevati di soli 14,4 litri/ora, un dato particolarmente interessante considerando la potenza disponibile. Nel corso della prova raggiungiamo inoltre una velocità massima di circa 37 nodi. En esta segunda parte de nuestra travesía desde Las Palmas hasta Gibraltar continuamos la aventura desde el tercer día de navegación, frente a las costas de Marruecos. Tras varios días de mar tranquila, la tripulación disfrutó de un momento inolvidable bañándose junto a delfines en pleno océano. Más adelante continuamos a motor hasta que regresó el viento, permitiéndonos navegar durante dos jornadas con condiciones moderadas. Pero al acercarnos al Estrecho de Gibraltar la situación cambió por completo. Un fuerte Levante comenzó a soplar con intensidad y, en lugar de entrar directamente por el Estrecho a motor, el capitán tomó una decisión diferente: cruzar desde la costa marroquí hasta Barbate con más de 40 nudos de viento. We have upgraded our anchor and chain, our windlass, our propellers and our cutlass bearings, as well as our solar and lithium bank, and the incredible paint job that we revealed last week! But now we are preparing to get back in the water and there are a few last minute jobs we need to complete before we can splash our hulls. The Keadby Lock repair was slowly coming together, and it had begun to operate for about one hour twice a day. Because timing the departure now required the highest degree of accuracy, our tidal calculations for the River Trent were becoming crucial. While we waited for the lock to be repaired, as issue with our canal boat’s fan belt held us back and cocked up our plans... We needed replacements, but without an address, it was proving difficult to arrange delivery. It’s these little things that can cock up your plans. We've left Isabella and are becoming dirt dwellers, swallowed the anchor, and moved to the hard. Well...not really. You know living on Isabella is a joy for us and we have left her only temporarily for a visit with family and friends in Southern California. Join us to learn about our preparations to secure our boat before going ashore. Isabella is secured to the dock with 3/4 inch dock lines at her stern, bow and spring lines which come out from midship to cleats on the dock. When we leave, all those are checked and often doubled up for extra support. She weighs 50,000 pounds so in a big blow Isabella can really tug on the dock cleats and we don't want her cruising away without us. Beyond that, plants have to be moved around, some thru hulls will be closed and the water pump will be turned off. We definitely don't want to come back to a flooded home. Making sure the reverse cycle air conditioners' strainers are clean and which unit to leave on. Unser Pfingst-Törn in die dänische Südsee führt uns wiedermal nach Avernakø – eine kleine, ruhige Insel zwischen Fyn und Ærø, umgeben von klarem Wasser, Sandbänken und viel Natur. Schon die Ansteuerung ist ein Erlebnis: wechselndes Licht, flaches Wasser und immer wieder die Hoffnung auf eine Begegnung mit Schweinswalen, die in diesen Gewässern zuhause sind. Auf der Insel selbst nehmen wir uns Zeit zum Ankommen, Entdecken und Durchatmen. Kleine Wege, stille Ecken und dieser typische dänische Inselcharme machen Avernakø zu einem besonderen Ziel im Revier. Mit an Bord ist diesmal auch ein neues Faltkajak, das uns ermöglicht, die Umgebung noch einmal aus einer ganz anderen Perspektive zu erkunden – leise, nah am Wasser und mitten in der Natur.
