Pero tuvimos que escoger, el tiempo que teníamos era limitado y la única alternativa era dejar el barco en algún puerto portugués y volver a Dublín a trabajar hasta que las condiciones fueran favorables. Así que decidimos apostar todo al rojo y probar de subir la costa portuguesa en contra de la naturaleza. Todo fue placentero hasta que cruzamos el cabo de San Vicente, donde tuvimos que poner rumbo norte. Hubo momentos en los que nos planteamos volver para atrás ya que la velocidad era casi nula pero por suerte las condiciones nos permitieron seguir avanzando. Esperamos que os guste!

Nordhavn 62 04 Kariwa the home of Frank and Leslie Coles. Vintage and iconic, like a fine wine the boat gets better and better! One year in the life! Our video is a spin through the first year of meeting fish, friends and faraway places! In my view the 62 is just the best for passage making. It may not have the spaces below the waterline but this means it has a better hull shape than more modern cruisers and trawlers. The more distinctive curves allow for a design that cuts through the water rather than rolls like many newer boats. We were lucky to cruise other Nordhavn friends and this made things a lot of fun.

La driza de la mayor sirve para más que izar y arriar la vela mayor. El backstay, que nos modifica la flexión del mástil, el pujamen o pajarín, la escota, la contra, la trapa, los rizos, son muchas de las maniobras que tiene la vela mayor. Con ellas le damos mayor o menor potencia a la vela, modificamos vertical o transversalmente la posición de la vela, reducimos o aumentamos la superficie vélica o variamos el twist. Todos y cada uno de ellos son necesarios para llevar un trimado de la vela óptimo. Me preguntarás si utilizo todos. Pues te diré que sí. Cada uno en su circunstancia. También es cierto que se puede navegar sin la mitad de ellos, pero no conseguiremos un trimado excepcional. He de decir también que hay días que tenemos el día vago y no los utilizaremos. Por algo somos cruceristas y no regatistas. Pero el día que nos apetece sacarle el mayor rendimiento a nuestros barcos y sus velas, la verdad es que es un auténtico gustazo tenerlas en perfecto estado de mantenimiento. Maia Cove is a lovely, tranquil anchorage and after catching a few fish we spend the evening on the beach smoking them on the BBQ. We have heard about wonderful rock art paintings at Pauline Bay so we sail over for the day and spend over an hour trying to find the track in. Eventually we are rewarded with the most spectacular Wandjina and Geon Geon rock art paintings. We then sail the short distance to Jar Island for more exploring and rock art investigating and we are not disappointed. Thanks for watching. We loved Port Douglas and the Sunday markets are a real treat. Port Douglas is a fabulous port for yachties like us as there is easy access to shops and a chandlery, lots to see and do in a small little town that is easy to walk around. There is a local shuttle bus service if you have to go further to Craigleigh and a bus to Cairns for big ticket items.

About Us Kate and Curtis both learn how to sail when they were young. Kate was a junior sailor in Opti's and 420's while Curtis went cruising in the Great Lakes with his family. We met while sailing in a Melges 24 regatta and have been sailing together ever since. The first time we went cruising together as a couple was on a friends borrowed J Boats J 105 in the North Channel of Lake Huron and Canada (part of the Great Loop). Those few weeks, and watching other channels like Gone With the Wynns, Sailing Uma, Project Atticus, Delos, Nahoa, and Sailing La Vagabonde, convinced us that the sailing life was for us. We bought our boat, a J Boats J/46, in 2019 after spending years searching for the perfect bluewater sailboat to sail around the world. We were interested in a catamaran and monohulls, but loved the performance cruising design of the J(it is faster than most cruising catamarans). We spent six months refitting her in Rhode Island, before selling our house and cars, quitting our jobs, and leaving land life for good to become digital nomads, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn. We have since navigated over 12,000 miles together, through storms, big waves, pandemics, and lockdowns. We sailed to Maine, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Grenada, Sint Maarten, the Azores, Canary Islands, and Brazil, on our way south to Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile to sail around Cape Horn and into the Patagonia fjords. We never intended to become influencers or start a new YouTube sailing channel, but now it is what we do. We love sharing our experience and adventures with you. We have learned to fly the drone and edit videos, trying to produce relaxing and listenable videos for you to sail away and watch at home while having coffee on Sunday mornings.
