We make our way south to the Osborne Islands and go ashore to try and find Magnus’ meter which has been hidden for him at the Arches. We check out the beautiful cave rock formations and explore a tiny island. We have been told that Makassan pottery is on this island so we are doing our best to locate it. We head down the river to look for the giant snake Aboriginal rock art painting and after much climbing and searching we find it. Thanks for watching. We put half the boat back together after removing lots of stuff for the deck painting. I climb the mast to fix the wind whirly-gig and masthead navigation light. Kate was a junior sailor in Opti's and 420's while Curtis went cruising in the Great Lakes with his family. We met while sailing in a Melges 24 regatta and have been sailing together ever since. The first time we went cruising together as a couple was on a friends borrowed J Boats J 105 in the North Channel of Lake Huron and Canada (part of the Great Loop). Those few weeks, and watching other channels like Gone With the Wynns, Sailing Uma, Project Atticus, Delos, Nahoa, and Sailing La Vagabonde, convinced us that the sailing life was for us. We bought our boat, a J Boats J/46, in 2019 after spending years searching for the perfect bluewater sailboat to sail around the world. We were interested in a catamaran and monohulls, but loved the performance cruising design of the J(it is faster than most cruising catamarans). We spent six months refitting her in Rhode Island, before selling our house and cars, quitting our jobs, and leaving land life for good to become digital nomads, with the goal of sailing around the world via Cape Horn. We have since navigated over 12,000 miles together, through storms, big waves, pandemics, and lockdowns. We sailed to Maine, the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Grenada, Sint Maarten, the Azores, Canary Islands, and Brazil, on our way south to Uruguay, Argentina, and Chile to sail around Cape Horn and into the Patagonia fjords. We never intended to become influencers or start a new YouTube sailing channel, but now it is what we do. We love sharing our experience and adventures with you. We have learned to fly the drone and edit videos, trying to produce relaxing and listenable videos for you to sail away and watch at home while having coffee on Sunday mornings. Peut-être arriverons nous même à contrebalancer notre contrariété en posant les filets que nous venons de réceptionner. Loftnets nous les a gracieusement offerts. Située à Bordeaux, cette société, s’est proposé, en échange d’un bon procédé de partage, de faire sur mesure nos trampolines qui commençaient sérieusement à devenir dangereux pour la sécurité. Un TP plus que formateur pour nos vacanciers que l’on ne va pas se gêner de faire travailler ! Tchoupi est sur la jupe de Black Lion, torche à la main. Nous pensions voir des oiseaux en train de pêcher, la surprise est tout autre, ce sont des chauve-souris. On les appelle les Noctilio leporinus ou chauve-souris pêcheuses. Leur technique de pêche est surprenante ! En observant attentivement, nous les voyons par un premier passage, déféquer au-dessus de l’eau, et revenir aussi tôt sur leurs battements d’ailes, au ras de l’eau, pour chopper au vol, les poissons qui n’ont pas vu venir le danger. @Barefoot Doctors Sailing - Come Barefoot with us as we sail on our Leopard 45 catamaran across the Mediterranean and down the Italian coast. We are now at Formia just north of Naples and this week collect our new crew, Nellie who is Eli's sister. We share the struggles of getting harbour berths as many ports and marinas do not answer emails and many are full anyway. Even when there are berths, it seems like the staff can't be bothered with the work as we are told the visitors berths are full and I counted 4 free and I knew 3 other boats were leaving the next day! We run through the anchoring process for Nellie in detail and then she and Eli have to head off the France to collect our car, Oxley Parasailor, and top up on French cheese and wine. Also get some boat spares that we realised we needed. For the 3 day trip, a large storm front passes over me aw I care the boat single handed and face lightning and 45 knot wind squalls - while the anchor hold and how will I cope??? Meet our newest, and furriest, crew member, who will be joining us on our travels around the world. One of our favorite features is the excellent ventilation since we mostly live as "hookers" (aka at anchor) where the boat automatically turns into the wind so we stay cool and we don't need to battle mold. We also have starlink for easy off-grid life. Our 2400 watt solar panel array also means we rarely need to run an engine to charge our batteries. ABOUT US: We saved for a our future boat, Sold Everything that we owned, Shipped the rest in a container to Cape Town, South Africa, flew to Cape Town, South Africa airport, to explore South Africa including an amazing safari, touring around Cape Town, move onto a Balance 482 Catamaran, then sailed to St Helena, Ascension Island, Fernando de Naronha, Brazil, Martinique, Sint Maarten (Dutch and French), St. Croix, St. John, St. Thomas, Inagua, Crooked Island, Long Island, George Town, Staniel Cay, Eleuthera, Anegada, Bahamas, Cape Canaveral, St. Augustine Florida, USA, Matthews Virigina, Zimmerman's marine for a haul out, and more! Both Dennis and Ann grew up military brats with Army fathers. Dennis (the Colonel) served 30 years in the US Army and his retirement pension helped us retire in our 50s. In this weeks episode we get to explore the Covigne River Gorge. Fabio a fellow yacht owner at the marina who has lived here for the last 10 years took us on a BEAUTIFUL hike. We had no clue what to expect when he took us out for the day but he did not disappoint. The Covigne River Gorge is just a 10 minute drive from Peakes Yacht Services and sits in the Tucker Valley in Chaguaramas. Our hike took us through the remnants of a cocoa and nutmeg Plantation once known as the Macqueripe Estate. We saw Nutmeg and Cocoa still growing along the trail and even managed to find a nutmeg with its mace casing still on. We then headed through a small gorge that is about thirty feet tall rock walls, carved out of the mountain rock by a branch of the Cuesa River. We saw many Emperor butterflies who seemed to evade video and photos, they were HUGE and bright blue. We haven't been able to get out and explore as much as we have wanted to while being in Trinidad so being able to experience this hike was just incredible and exactly what we needed to recharge our adventure batteries. We also had a yacht on anchor that is seemingly abandoned or forgotten about almost hit Saoirse in the anchorage. Luckily it started dragging in the day time otherwise we probably wouldn't have seen it coming towards us. Colben and Denver helped Simon (one of the mooring ball owners) to tow it to one of his mooring balls and make sure it wasn't a danger to anyone else in the anchorage.

In 1990 for your first race, there were 19 competitors. This year 138 sailors will be setting off. How do you feel about the Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe thirty two years on? In 1990, it was very special and I entered the Rhum almost breaking the rules. I had built a catamaran in a large greenhouse and like Bruno Peyron and Hervé Laurent, I was forced to cut her down to 20 m. Then, three weeks before the start, we were told we would have to cut more off to take her to 18.3m. Bruno and Hervé set off outside of the rules, as they had the means to do that, but my sponsor told me to re-read my contract. I either reimbursed everything by setting off like that, or you respect the rules. I did what I was told and then I had to do another qualifier, as the size of the boat had changed.. it was all done a the last moment in 45 knots of wind. I came back with ripped sails and the boat all over the place. I was worn out and that’s how I started the race. I was the bad boy of the class at the time. Looking back, I regret not sailing outside of the rules. This year, I have agreed to the rules and joined the Ultim class. I may be older, but I’m still the same person as in 1990.
