So I had a few comments about camera equipment I use so I thought i'd do a short video about just that! Most of the time i'm quite happy with what I have, however I do feel GoPro are bit of a case of "Better the devil you know". There's nothing else out there really that competes but at the same time I do have issues with GoPro's switching off, not connecting to the remote and also battery issues, especially in the cold. Il y a deux mois, nous avons emménagé dans notre nouveau bateau : un ketch Vindo 65 de 38 pieds dans un super état ! Nous avons vécu 5 ans à bord d'un petit voilier en acier de 9,5 mètres équipé très simple... C'est pour cela qu'aujourd'hui, on apprécie d'autant plus tout le confort que nous offre notre nouveau Vagabond ! Lors de l'achat, on savait qu'il fallait changer : les panneaux solaires collés sur le pont, le radar, la pompe d'évacuation de douche et la capote de roof. Pendant que Tom effectue des boulots techniques, je trouve de quoi m'occuper, on ne s'ennuie jamais sur un bateau ! La marina de Linton Bay est loin de la ville, cela ne nous simplifie pas la vie... Tout prend du temps et finalement, on a le temps ! Aujourd'hui, nous attendons encore quelques colis avant de pouvoir enfin tester le bateau en navigation.... Encore un peu de patience... SAILBOAT REFIT - Tuning our CARBON RIG with a HYDRAULIC JACK In last weeks video we explained that rigs the size of ours need to be tuned using a hydraulic jack in order to fit wedge known as shims underneath in order to get the right amount of tension In this video we send Timo a-loft to tune the diagonals. We were extremely lucky to have the builder of our mast, Pete Kula from Applied Composite Technologies (composites.com.au) in Australia here to help us Our mast is approx 26m long and made of carbon fibre. It's got 3 spreaders and the standing rigging consists of 2 cap shrouds and 3 sets of diagonals (d1, d2 and d3). Rigging on boats is usually tensioned by hand using turnbuckles. But for boats and rigging over a certain size, this is no longer possible as force needed produce so much heat that it would cause the turnbuckles to deform. In this case, a hydraulic jack is used instead. I do my first winding (I was so proud, but sadly there is no footage!), and we go back across the aqueduct and up the Shropshire Union towards Hurleston. Locks done, I can relax for a bit and we cruise nicely along the Llangollen canal towards Swanley locks. On the way we pass some lovely countryside, old buildings, and some very overgrown willows! I do a bit of a tour past some fuel boats, and Swanley Marina, before going up the 2 Swanley locks and mooring up.

The Route du Rhum is the biggest solo offshore racing event in the world. You only have to walk the dockside at the start venue in St Malo where 138 boats were alongside the quay and it’s clear that this race across the Atlantic is a serious crowd puller. In just under two weeks the race village will see 2 million visitors strolling through a staggering offshore grand prix pit lane.
