The Two-Handed team comprised of father and son, Peter and Duncan Bacon, on their Sun Fast 3300 Sea Bear finished the race on 25th January at 00:31:04 UTC, completing their RORC Transatlantic Race debut in an elapsed time of 16 days 10 hrs 21 mins 04 secs. Peter Bacon had previously competed in the 2019 Transatlantic Race (west to east) with Xp44 Lucy Georgina, winning IRC Racing 2 and notably beating Pata Negra and Teasing Machine after IRC time correction. Highlights of what happened globally in the sport of sailing in the last 7 days. This is the Emirates Team New Zealand LEQ 12, which had a "full" day testing it on the Gulf and they are returning back to base. Naturally it's a relaxing time, and as they approach the area near the Royal Akarana Yacht Club and they are about to pass between a marker boy, and the distance poles. It seems like they see it at the last moment, and so as not to have contact with either, they turn quickly to starboard and the rudder lifts out of the water, and, hit by a gust, the boat does another nose-dive down the mine. It then gently rolls in, and Blake and the boys, swim in their pod. Crew all OK, boat the same, the chase boat crew are not impressed. Pilot Error? We thank Justin Mitchell for their video. Leg 2 of the Ocean Race started from Cabo Verde to Cape Town yesterday and the five IMOCAs had a quick exit heading for the Doldrums. The RORC Caribbean 600 is on next month and the feeder race, The Transat, finished last week in Grenada. Here are the winners of the race when they arrived at the finish. It was raining more than just medals on the final day of Sail Melbourne, multiple classes were tasked with navigating heavy rain and a two-meter sea state to decide podium positions. Fledgling Australian Sailing Squad team Tom Burton and Max Paul finished the regatta at the top of the 49er standings after six bullets in ten races! Marie Tabarly of the famous French sailing family brought the equally famous yacht, Pen Duic 6, to the RORC Transat race. This is their crossing story. The Finn gold Cup is being held at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club in Miami. These are the preparations at the club in Florida. So the Emirates Team New Zealand boat Nose Dived again in Auckland, and we've shown you the sequence at the start of this show. Cette vidéo est sur le thème urbex, rien à voir avec nos vidéos habituelles, néanmoins, nous sommes tombés sur ce lieu rempli de mystère lors d'une escale à St Martin et je tenais à vous en conter l'histoire. La Belle Créole est un hôtel de luxe qui fût construit en 1960, les travaux cessèrent plusieurs fois faute de financements. Ce n'est qu'en 1988 que l'hôtel fût complètement achevé, mais le sort s'acharne car en 1995 la Belle Créole fût totalement détruite par l'ouragan Luise. Des légendes locales racontent que le complexe a été construit sur une tombe indienne Arawak, tandis que d'autres racontent que l'île d'en face servait à isoler les lépreux qui été laissés à la mort, ce qui expliquerait que le site soit hanté. Qui sait ? Il semble que le projet ait été maudit depuis le début.

We had a really challenging overnight sail on our way from Bocas del Toro to the Chagres River, featuring about 6 squalls (the Captain stopped counting after 6!) which brought wind, rain, thunder and lightning. Diese Etappe hat es in sich: Rund 960 Meilen liegen vor uns, als wir Gran Canaria Richtung Kapverden verlassen. Der Wind ist mit uns, die Welle aber leider auch. Wir schaukeln wie Buntwäsche in einer Waschmaschine über den Atlantik, immer entlang der Küste Afrikas. Neu an Bord ist Carl aus Berlin, ein Tramper der Meere, der mit Dutzenden anderen auf Gran Canaria auf eine Mitsegel-Gelegenheit gewartet hat. Unser Buddy-Boot Barracuda nimmt derweil seinen Kumpel Nils an Bord. Gemeinsam starten wir unseren Törn gen Südwest, begleitet von vielen Delfinen und noch mehr Wellen.

Ein älterer Dokumentarfilm, der nicht nur das Herz der Fahrtensegler trifft (DVD-Film). Diesmal geht es durch den schwedischen Schärengarten entlang rauer Felsformationen in den wunderschönen Oslofjord. Die Zuschauer werden Teil der Crew, segeln mal hart am Wind, erleben Regen, Sturm und Hagel oder räkeln sich entspannt unter blauem Sommerhimmel an Deck der FeO, einer Hallberg Rassy 29. Der Törn verlief auf der klassischen Route über Anholt – Göteborg – Strömstad – Oslo, zurück über Laesö und in unsere heimischen Gewässer. Das durch die Eiszeit geprägte Schärenrevier macht sorgfältige Navigation zur eisernen Bedingung, auch wenn bunte Leuchttürme auf kleinen Felsinseln Seefahrern den rechten Weg weisen. Die Crew hat ihn glücklicherweise immer gefunden, auch wenn sie manches Mal vor der Frage stand, nehmen wir die Innenpassage oder fahren wir außen herum. Hier sind Revierkenntnisse gefragt. Und wer die Route noch nicht kennt, bekommt durch den Film hilfreiche Informationen und wichtige Navigationshinweise. Liegt die Yacht nach mehr oder minder anstrengendem Tagestörn abends im Hafen, genießt die Besatzung nicht nur leckeres Essen aus der kleinen Bordküche, sondern schlendert entspannt durch kleine beschauliche Hafenstädte mit den typischen bunten Holzhäusern oder herrschaftlichen Villen in der landesüblichen Architektur. Zuweilen zieht die Crew auch die Wanderschuhe an. Mal führt der Weg über glatt geschliffenen Grund, mal durch lichte Laubwälder, denn jeder weiß, dass man die Schönheit der Schärenlandschaft nicht nur vom Boot aus wahrnehmen sollte. Auch die Kultur kommt auf dieser Reise nicht zu kurz, denn viele Sehenswürdigkeiten liegen sozusagen auf dem Weg. Ob in Göteborg, Varberg, Strömstad oder Oslo. Die bedeutendsten sind in dem Film festgehalten.

This Dufour 560 Grand Large from 2015 is a fine example of a carefully used luxury sailing yacht that offers great comfort and ditto performance. She is sleek and elegant and her model name really does her justice: she is grand and large. She has wide and uncluttered teak laid decks and an electric opening transom with access to a wide bathing platform and tender garage. The huge and beamy cockpit features two steering pedestals fitted out with an array of Raymarine instruments, and all controls within reach. The forward part of the cockpit is fitted out with twin settees, a sun pad, and a deluxe foldable table that holds a stainless steel fridge. And, by lifting up the transom seat a big grill, prep area and a sink reveals. So you can stand on the dropdown transom and do some barbecuing. Furthermore, equipped with; main sail, furling genoa, a hardly used Code 0 and electric winches. Further to that: a 110hp diesel engine, retractable bow and heck thruster, folding propeller, generator with only 45 running hours, life raft, new underwater lights, new dinghy with new outboard, etc. The interior of this Dufour 560 Grand Large is more than spacious and is comfortably fitted out with air conditioning throughout and Eberspächer heating throughout. Furthermore, fitted out with; a dishwasher, a pop-up TV, blinds, a Fusion sound system, Bose speaker, electric toilets, and even a wine rack under the floor. To port is a U-shaped settee and convertible table, while to starboard there’s an L-shaped settee and a well-equipped navigation area. The galley is located one step down forward of the saloon and it runs across the full beam of the boat. The master cabin located forward features a double bed to port, a sofa and a desk to starboard, a flat screen, and an ensuite bathroom. This week im having a chat with Laura Dekker from the Laura Dekker World Sailing Foundation Laura made the history books back in 2010 when at the age of 14 she became the youngest person ever to attempt to sail around the world. It took place after a long fought battle with the Dutch government and became international headlines sparking a global debate, surrounding parental rights. Laura was born and grew up on the water and her father being a cruiser himself taught her how to manage and maintain a vessel from being a child. She worked and saved up enough to buy a Jeanneau Gin Fizz Ketch fixer upper named Guppy and spent years with her father getting the boat ready for the voyage. John was a small gold prospector in the Philippines. He had been panning for years, but his luck never seemed to last very long. He would only find a few flakes of gold every month and he couldn't make ends meet. One day, John heard about a new way of finding gold that could bring him more money – using a homebuilt dredge on the riverbank. The idea sounded too good to be true, so John decided to give it a try. He set out early one morning with his dredge and started walking along the riverbank looking for clay layer deep spots where the gold might have settled into. After several hours of searching, he finally found what he was looking for – an area with thick clay layer beneath all the cobblestones! John began digging and sure enough after just fifteen minutes he struck something hard – it was pure solid gold! John started collecting more and more pieces of gold from this spot until eventually he had collected an entire ounce worth around $1000 dollars! His luck had changed drastically overnight - now instead of just making ends meet each month by panning ,he was earning up to 1 gramme per week through dredging- easily enough money to support himself and his family comfortably!
