#185 ✍️ 12 janvier 2023, la baie de Malendure est devenue notre refuge. Nous y sommes bien. Son écrin de verdure se retrouve presque tous les jours galbé de superbes arcs-en-ciel. Et puis, Sagar Rani y est aussi, ce qui explique notre sédentarisation inhabituelle. Chacun vaque à ses occupations, se prépare au prochain départ. Nous savons la séparation prochaine, alors, pour ne pas trop y penser, on s’attache à remédier à quelques faiblesses d’usure sur Black Lion. Des coutures brulées par les UV, des winchs grippés par le sel, des bricoles de ponçage ou encore quelques améliorations. Il y a toujours à faire ! Comment peut-on s’ennuyer ? Nous arrivons même la plupart du temps à manquer de temps. Un drôle de sentiment nous chambarde, il nous revient à chaque grand départ. On pourrait pourtant croire qu’au bout de 15 ans sur l’eau, les appréhensions se tassent, il n’en n’est rien ! Ce petit pincement à l’estomac rapplique à chaque fois. Dès lors que nous nous posons un peu trop longtemps quelque part, tout est à recommencer ! Et notre parenthèse aux Antilles s’est largement éternisée, trop à notre goût ! D’un autre côté, nous y serions restés moins longtemps, nous n’aurions pas fait toutes ces belles rencontres ! Des bananas de tous horizons, Canadiens, Belges, Bretons…. Tous avec la même passion, tous avec des rêves plein la tête. Eux nous connaissent au travers de nos vidéos, nous, nous apprenons à les connaitre autour d’un petit verre de « thé » citronné, avouons-le, bien a-rhum-atisé ! Entre deux rencontres, je m’affaire à recycler la voile préférée de mon capitaine. J’en fais des sacs à bandoulière histoire de lui donner une seconde vie et de remplir un peu la caisse de bord. Avec ces conditions, les coups de ciseaux sur celle qui nous a porté sur tant de milles sont moins douloureux. De plus, sa suppléante vient d’arriver ! Nous l’appellerons JoNath, clin d’œil à nos mécènes, sans qui son changement n’aurait été possible. Ça sent bon le voyage, l’aventure, la découverte se profile de nouveau. Sur sa toile en CZ, un lion noir a été floqué, dessin de notre fiston, cadeau de Rolly Tasker, la voilerie. 15 janvier 2023, je voulais me persuader que j’étais prête ! Me convaincre que je ne pleurerai pas ! Quelle idée ! Les yeux rougis, remplis de larmes, nous nous serons. Lui, moi, tous les trois. Enlacée aux deux hommes de ma vie, j’inspire profondément, je bouscule tous mes sens pour pouvoir m’imprégner de chaque odeur, chaque effleurement sur ma peau, chaque sensation. Demain, nous prendrons des directions différentes. Nous laisserons notre fils à sa vie et reprendrons le fil de la nôtre…

We've finally decided to sail further abroad. Join us as we continue north towards Indonesia. It's a mixed bag of weather and we get the fright of our lives when a water spout hits Excelsior in the Pancake Creek Anchorage. We check into Gladstone Marina in time to see the Brisbane to Gladstone racing yachts; We celebrate our 14th Wedding Anniversary at Middle Percy Island; Catch up with Salty friends at Whitehaven, South Molle Island and Airlie Beach before heading to Yorkeys Knob, Cairns for medical appointments and provisioning.

Now that the fiberglass rebuild work has been completed on the rudder it’s time to start getting the rest of the hull back in shape. We have 685 sq ft of surface to prep and paint before Hurricane Ian comes knocking on our door step. The blisters are almost repaired and smoothed out as to not cause any friction on the hull. This was a definite art of applying compounds to the correct specifications, then allowing it to catalyze and dry before applying another coat and eventually sanding and smoothing to the perfect finish. An art for sure. Sanding is something we have gotten very good at over the past couple of days. As hard as you try you cannot keep the particles of blue ablative paint off your skin and in your lungs. The thing about ablative paint is that it has copper in it, making it toxic to breath. The other thing about ablative paint is, even though it dries very fast you have to make sure that the surface is completely dry before you start and the paint needs some time to adhered before it gets wet. Nous partons de la baie de Briande. C’est un départ en fin soirée avec une navigation de nuit qui nous mènera au mouillage de Frégus. Nous avons réservé une place au vieux port de saint Raphaël, sur l’application Navily, tout à très bien fonctionné. L’accueil au vieux port de Saint Raphaël est le meilleur que j’ai eu jusqu’ici. Bon film avec nous.😉

What an incredible day to finish off Day 5 | Lanzarote iQFOiL International Games 2023. Congratulations to Pilar Lamadrid from Spain and Pawel Tarnowski from Poland for winning the event. Sam Sills and Pawel had an epic "battle" in which both of them fell about 25 meters away from the finish line, Pawel managed to stand earlier and managed the win, Nico Goyard was coming closely behind but let Sam Sills pass first to earn his second place after an amazing week dominating pretty much every race. On the women's side it was a real battle between Sharon Kantor and Pilar Lamadrid and finally, Lamadrid took the trophy home and became two times in a row champion of the event.

In this episode, I complete my solo passage to Alicante and unexpectedly arrive for the opening ceremony of The Ocean Race. On passage, conditions were almost perfect with low swell and plenty of breeze to get Safar moving on a broad reach.
