Go check out the link to the short recipe video: https://youtu.be/NVPQHRuve6o ELECTRICAL UPGRADE: We manage to find an awesome Solar Supplier in town “MNC Solar Power” and they were very helpful. We have upgraded to a total of 1100 watts of solar. The panels were left over panels from a commercial job, that I got super cheap from MNC Solar. There is a 30amp Victron charge controller (existing) on one 550 watt panel and we added a 50amp Victron charge controller on the other. We upgraded to a Renogy 3000 watt inverter. This was a very affordable inverter, compared to other brands. This has now been wired through our 240 volt switchboard on our boat. Our existing house batteries consist of 690 amp hours of AGM’s. With careful management we can run our 240 volt water maker, heat up water in the 240volt Hot water system, run a portable air conditioner, and we even now have an air fryer on the boat which is amazing. Keep in mind, we have two freezers and a fridge running as-well. We have plans to upgrade to lithium at some point. Since this upgrade we have probably only had to run our portable generator a dozen or so times in the 11 months since the install. Cost for upgrade: Josh did the whole install himself and the total cost of the parts were $2023 AUD. The fleet has stretched out with the first two boats breaking away from the other two and the distance is over 250 nautical miles. GUYOT Entertainment is approaching Itagai and is currently close to docking. Team Malizia, who were contemplating a return to Cape Town after mast damage in the first days of leg 3, and who approached Cape Horn today nursing an injured crew member, have overcome all these obstacles and more to lead The Ocean Race fleet past the iconic landmark. Boris Herrmann, skipper of Team Malizia, commented on this, his fifth passing of the landmark: “Cape Horn holds many memories for me, and crossing this line in first almost means more than winning the leg, not in terms of points but in terms of what it means. I am proud of the team and this boat! The boat has really proved itself in the Southern Ocean and shown how tough she is.”

Dato che ho appena acquistato la mia seconda barca affrontando non poche difficoltà, ho pensato di fare questa mini serie su “Come comprare la barca usata”. Ti guiderò mostrandoti quella che è stata la mia esperienza personale e cercando di farti evitare alcuni errori che ho fatto in prima persona! Iniziamo! Mi Compro la Barca Usata. Una serie ideata da Fabio Portesan & Marina Leva prodotta da Giornale Della Vela 1. CHE USO NE DEVI FARE e LISTA CARATTERISTICHE La prima cosa da considerare prima di lanciarti nella ricerca della tua barca è come vuoi utilizzarla. Esistono moltissimi tipi di barche ed ognuna è adatta a diverse attività, quindi è importante avere un'idea quanto più precisa di come utilizzerai il tuo mezzo per andare in mare, per non perderti nell’ampio mercato delle imbarcazioni usate. Sarebbe impossibile elencare tutte le tipologie di imbarcazioni e le loro caratteristiche, ma farò in modo che in autonomia tu possa individuare il modello che potrebbe fare al caso tuo per poi avere modo di approfondire l’imbarcazione specifica. Scrivere una lista di come vuoi utilizzare la tua futura barca, ti darà modo di evidenziare le caratteristiche che stai cercando ed utilizzare un metodo ad esclusione ti aiuterà a stringere il cerchio per avere un idea molto precisa per la tua ricerca. Personalmente per tutto il processo di ricerca della mia barca ho utilizzato un quaderno. Mi ha dato modo di fare degli schizzi ed utilizzare i colori stile visual board, ma tu puoi utilizzare anche il tuo pc o il tuo cellulare se preferisci. Pensa a che tipo di navigazione hai intenzione di fare? Vorresti andare a pescare, andare in crociera, passare lunghi periodi a bordo o utilizzare la tua barca solo per delle uscite giornaliere? Vorresti andare in barca solo durante l’estate o anche durante l’inverno? Vuoi portare la tua famiglia o gli amici con te, oppure preferisci la navigazione solitaria? Quindi fai una lista quanto più precisa possibile su cosa vuoi fare con la tua futura barca e a fianco abbina una caratteristica. Per esempio Fare vela e qualche regata: barca a vela performante Andare a pescare: piccola barca a motore con una buona superficie calpestabile Stare in barca comodi con la famiglia: Numero cabine Et voilà! Avrai individuato le caratteristiche che dovrà avere la tua futura barca! Consiglio: cerca di essere poco sognatore e molto concreto. Un domani vendere la tua piccola imbarcazione per fare un upgrade, sarà sicuramente più semplice che vendere un veliero attrezzato per il giro del mondo per poi comprare una piccola barca per andare a pescare davanti a casa! Con questa prima analisi sarai riuscito a stringere il campo di ricerca e di molto, sull’ampia scelta di barche usate presente sul mercato e perderai meno tempo con barche che non fanno al caso tuo! We just can't seem to leave Fakarava. It is an incredible atoll that has so much to offer a visiting sailor. Apart from snorkelling or diving in the south pass, another amazing thing to do is to visit the motus on the western side of the south pass. Here you will find incredible Pink Sand Beaches, crystal clear water, thousands of sea slugs and amazing fish life. The best part is that we always seem to be the only people there. Surely this is the most beautiful place we have seen? It is a long dinghy ride as there is no short cut across the reef but it is well worth it. As Dylan had done his refresher diving session with Jean Francois, it was now time for him to do the Wall of Sharks dive. We went don to 29 meters and were once again surrounded by an incredible amount of Grey Sharks. We went into the cave from where you can watch the sharks pass by slowly. What an experience. Not only are there sharks down there, there are also some really interesting fish like the Trigger Fish. At the time of making this video, we found out how dangerous they can be and will bite a diver or swimmer. Here is an extract from Scuba.com and this is exactly what the fish in our video was doing. It looks like we were lucky. 'It’s when they are nesting (around April/May is some regions) that they get very feisty and will rigorously protect these nests, which is not to say they don’t get territorial even in non breeding seasons. However, for the most part it’s only to protect their nests and they are pretty docile otherwise. It’s also believed that they’re more aggressive in some places more than others, like Thailand and Egypt for example. A prominent sign of trouble to come is when the fish rolls onto its side and with their independently rotating beady eyes, gives you the old evil eye just before they charge at you. Sometimes you will see its black fin tips raise in warning of the attack. And then with that little or no at all warning you can count on it to attack and it has the teeth to back it up!' With no wind, some lovely sun and a glass like lake, there was only 1 thing to do. Get the outboard on and have a lazy motor about. In this video I decided to visit the River DEE entrance and exit to the lake and experience the currents they generate. I also had a lovely morning coffee stop and then bungled my way down the lake stopping off at all sorts of places. Stranded in Paradise - Musket Cove They say every cloud has a silver lining, in our case after our gearbox broke and we were scammed by the company we ordered the replacement part from, our silver lining was that it left us stranded in a local cruising paradise surrounded by turquoise water and coral reef. So after a hot sweaty couple of years on the hard stand in Fiji transforming our Open 60 into a fast family cruiser, we finally got a bit of down time (in-between dodging cyclones, dis-installing and re-installing our propeller and engine, installing an outboard mount, fixing our water maker, resewing a new boom cover zip, cleaning the dinghy bottom, fixing our salt water pump and our anchor winch circuit breaker). Thanks a lot to everyone that got in touch to try to help with our gearbox issue but the biggest thank yous go to Oliver for getting us a refund from the company that never sent us the part and to Doug & Amy who organised for another replacement part to be sent to us. Musket Cove is the ideal cruising destination, with everything you need. Firstly, it’s one of the biggest, most protected anchorages in the mamanuca and yasawa island groups - which are those on the western side of Fiji closest to Fiji’s International airport Nadi, and as such as the ones most often explored by cruisers especially when visited by family and friends that are flying in from abroad There's a yacht club office, a fuel dock, fresh water to fill your tanks, somewhere to leave the rubbish, there's a laundry with washers and dryers, toilets and showers and even an ATM! It's also a popular spot for sports such as surfing, kite surfing and wing foiling! There’s always plenty to do here, where it’s snorkelling, paddle boarding, kayaking, racing the hobby cats or playing volley ball. You can also learn to make traditional Fijian meals and to basket weave! Not to mention the world famous surf spots such as Cloud break and restaurants right on this islands door step… Welcome to Musket Cove Island Resort, a secluded uncrowded island hideaway, that really captures the essence of Fiji. The resort hosts garden and beachfront burees scattered amongst palm trees and lush gardens,, Island and garden villas, raintree rooms and overwater lagoon burees located along a picturesque inland canal The general store here is awesome, with lovely staff, always so pleased to see you! It’s always filled with a great selection, reducing the need to go back to the mainland to restock. The island is serviced by a ferry which runs to and from the mainland 4 times a day. In fact there is even a shuttle from Fiji’s International airport Nadi taking you directly to the ferry terminal in Denarau, making the transit super convenient when coming from abroad. There’s the Trader Cafe for casual dining and Dick’s Place for refreshments by the pool and for enjoying spectacular meals. He competed in her in the 1992 Vendée Globe (round the world single handed race known as “the Everest of the seas”), finishing 5th, becoming the first non-frenchman to finish. We are currently in Fiji giving this old gladiator a new lease on life, transforming her from an ex race boat to a performance family cruiser, which we'll need to make both dog and baby proof! We’re planning to set sail again in Oct 2022, so with limited time&money we have plenty of challenges ahead to turn our dreams into reality&get back on the water!
