We also have starlink for easy off-grid life. Our 2400 watt solar panel array also means we rarely need to run an engine to charge our batteries. The weather forecast had been taken upstream - Sailing aboard three OVNI sailboats: OVNI 370 - OVNI 400 and OVNI 450 starting from Les Sables d'Olonne to Ile d'Yeu - Dinner on board, preparation of spaghetti bolognese, for a tasting at anchor at the Anse des Vieilles (Ile d'Yeu) - Night navigation with the advice of Arnaud Boissières, sailing to the Ile de Ré. Breakfast at anchor - Last navigation towards the island of Aix before joining the port of La Rochelle for a debrief with each of the participants. This Master Class was a great moment of sharing and discovering OVNI sailboats with Arnaud Boissières, the Alubat team and the Voile Magazine team. And we were lucky to have a very nice weather.

Denn nass sind wir sowieso.Guadeloupe geizt nicht mit Regen. Ein heftiger Schauer jagt den nächsten. Auf unserem Weg entlang der Küste liegt auch Pigeon Island, eine kleine Insel, die Dank Jacques Cousteau ein Naturreservat ist. Zwischen den Korallen lässt es sich herrlich schnorcheln. Und dann trifft Arzum auch endlich Landsleute. Özlem und Özkan sind mit ihrem Kat Özi nur ein paar Wochen vor uns in der Türkei aufgebrochen. Jetzt, nach 7000 Seemeilen, treffen wir sie zum ersten Mal. Und noch ein türkisches Boot liegt neben uns - die Istanbul. Başak ist erste türkische Frau, die Einhand den Atlantik überquert hat.

Unser Segelboot Squib, ein Catalac 9M, ist in die Jahre gekommen, die Verkleidung hängt teilweise von der Decke, die Farbe blättert ab, die Elektrik auf dem Stand des vorigen Jahrtausends,..... Ein Refit steht an. Doch Broterwerb und Verpflichtungen lassen es nicht zu, monatelang in Griechenland am Boot zu arbeiten. Da wird schon 2018 die Idee geboren Squib nach Wien zu bringen, wo man jederzeit Zugang hat, der Einkauf von Material in der Muttersprache abgewickelt werden kann und alles andere seinen gewohnten Verlauf nimmt. 2021 war es dann endlich soweit, mit zwei generalüberholten Motoren und einem neuen Geräteträger starteten wir Anfang Juli Richtung Südfrankreich.Leider hatten wir für die gesamte Reise nur zwei Monate Zeit, deswegen hieß es die meiste Zeit Strecke machen. Doch manchmal nahmen wir uns die Zeit zu verweilen, uns Orte näher anzuschauen. I sail from the bottom of Lake Bala all the way to the top on reaching on 1 tack. It's the first time i've done that but the wind was in the exact right place to allow us to Broad reach all the way back. A hike to the trig point on Uaraidh - the peak to the north of Tarbert harbour. Best to do it in the spring when the braken is down, but be prepared as it can be very wet underfoot. On a good day, it offers stunning views of the village, down the West Loch and Loch Fyne. Nous descendons jusqu'à George Town dans le sud des Exumas. Laura retourne au Québec et nous, nous retrouvons le rythme à 3. Nous remontons jusqu'à Rudder cay pour y passer plusieurs jours. Après une partie de chasse sous-marine, les requins-nourrice viennent à notre rencontre directement sur à plateforme de mise à l'eau.

Crossing the Atlantic via Cape Verde is notorious for heavy seas and strong winds, which can work out to be an advantage. With the second leg of 2000nm to come later this section is a good shakedown for the boat and crew, with any weaknesses showing up and being fixable in Cape Verde. Our first breakdown came progressively and could have been a game changer had we not had the spares available and the knowledge to fix the issue. The auto pilot failed a few days in at the same time the halyard on the Gennaker chafed through and snapped, leaving the whole sail floating in the Atlantic Ocean. Could we retrieve it…… Fishing in this vast ocean can be very fruitful, and the words” FISH ON” became a regular cry from the stern. In this video we head out to Tradition, with Skip and his daughter, to start the bottom cleaning process, fix the exhaust and organize the rigging. We have about three weeks to get Tradition ready to motor out and around the buoy at Keehi Lagoon, in order to pass her yearly inspection with the DLNR. There is a good chance that we will take on water through Tradition's corrupted drive shaft packing gland. We will have to be ready for anything!

After the haul out in Almyra we put the boat back in the sea and sailed to Aegina for the 25 of March celebration. In the summer is very difficult to moor in the bay of Aegina town as it is full of boats, so we took the opportunity to stay there of season. After we arrived the harbor was once again completely full .
