Join us on this episode, dropping anchor in various locations in Port Macquarie, NSW. Josh upgraded the inverter and solar panels. Fortunately for us, Josh is a qualified electrician. So he was able to do all the installation work for himself. More information below… We hired a reasonable price car from Sixt Car Hire, which was handy to run around & get supplies. Plus we did a bit of sight seeing, during our 2 1/2 weeks stay. Note: download the Sixt Mobile App, super easy to use to make bookings. We use Sixt a lot of the time. We rip our main sail after leaving Port Macquarie, not being able to furl it back into the mast. ✨ WANT TO SEE MORE CRAZY adventures of us 4WD in remote locations, spearing & diving or sailing our way around Australia? We have upgraded to a total of 1100 watts of solar. The panels were left over panels from a commercial job, that I got super cheap from MNC Solar. There is a 30amp Victron charge controller (existing) on one 550 watt panel and we added a 50amp Victron charge controller on the other. We upgraded to a Renogy 3000 watt inverter. This was a very affordable inverter, compared to other brands. This has now been wired through our 240 volt switchboard on our boat. Our existing house batteries consist of 690 amp hours of AGM’s. With careful management we can run our 240 volt water maker, heat up water in the 240volt Hot water system, run a portable air conditioner, and we even now have an air fryer on the boat which is amazing. Keep in mind, we have two freezers and a fridge running as-well. We have plans to upgrade to lithium at some point. Since this upgrade we have probably only had to run our portable generator a dozen or so times in the 11 months since the install. Cost for upgrade: Josh did the whole install himself and the total cost of the parts were $2023 AUD.
