This was possibly the wettest and windiest day of 2023 so far. Driving rain and forecasts of 50mph winds started the day on a low, and things only made marginally better by the wind not coming through quite as strong as forecast. Improvisation was the key for the day. Overcoming the beardless thrown at us by the elements was the order of the day. Fortunately we prevailed and Mist is now sat happily on her berth. Colourful coral ledges. Wedding Cake Dive Site in Misool Wedding Cake dive site is also known as Layer Cake. When you see the Eastern side of this dive site, you'll notice all the different layer formations as the wall stretches down to below 30m. I guess that's where it gets its name from. It's a very diverse dive site with many different slopes and walls to explore with the Eastern side being more colourful and way more abundance of corals. Don't discard the Western side though. Although it's not as colourful, there any many different marine species one can find among the rubble. The current can get very strong here, but at least there will be many place to take shelter due to the shape of the dive site. In the right season, Wedding Cake is filled with schools of small fish being hunted. While enjoying the idyllic anchorage of Ten Bay, Eleuthera, per usual I took a gander at the GRIB files and spotted what looked like an excellent weather window to sail to the Berry Islands in a few days time. Forty eight hours later that window collapses on me utterly. What's worse is a forecast for light and variable winds preceding fresh northwesterlies, and there are few nearby anchorages offering any shelter. A tropical cyclone developing off western Australia to the south of us, meant it was time to skedaddle. And what lay in front of us was a 30-mile passage through the Lombok Strait. Known for its unpredictable and fierce currents, this would be a chance to test all the systems we had replaced or repaired in the boat yard. In the coming days, winds were expected to strengthen and the sea state to become untenable. We needed to be tucked away inside a calm anchorage, so it made sense to head south to Marina Del Ray where we hoped to find shelter between the southern Gilis (islands). Cyclones 'Tropical cyclone' is a generic term for big circulating weather systems, but the names change in different parts of the world. "In the North Atlantic, central North Pacific, and eastern North Pacific, the term "hurricane" is used. The same type of disturbance in the Northwest Pacific is called a "typhoon". Meanwhile, in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean, the generic term "tropical cyclone" is used, regardless of the strength of the wind associated with the weather system." @usoceangov To add to the confusion, tropical cyclones are categorised further by strength, which can vary from day to day: 1. Our goal is not to go to a specific place but to reach a state of mind where we can really enjoy life. Anders has been at the sea most of his life and sailed for the Swedish national dingy sailing team as a young man. Gitte has also grown up with boats and spent every summer sailing with her father as a teenager but made a pause of about 15 years without sailing as an adult, had just begun to pick-up the interest before she meet Anders in 2017. Onboard we also have our cat Litza a 4 year old Devon Rex we call her the cattain because cats always decide over their humans. Fridá af Wisby is a Wauquiez 47 pilot saloon that we Gitte and Anders bought in UK in 2019 and that we have sailed to Gotland and in season 1 2020 we sail in the Baltic Sea. During season 2 We sailded south to Dieppe Normandy France. After a winter in France in Season 3 we started to sail the Atlantic coast of Europe to Xufre in Spain where we lifted the boat over the summer while we where back in Gotland to work at our hostel we got there. Season 4 got a short sailing season where we only sailed to Lagos on the Algarve coast of Portugal where we hauled out once again this time to go throug a long list of boatwork and to build a solar arch to make the boat more self-suficient with electricity. After 6 months in Lagos we kicked-off season 5 with real bluewater sailing first to the northerly Atlantic island Porto Santo and Madeira and then further out to the Azores that lays in the middle of the Atlantic ocean before turning back towards the mainland and south coast of Portugal again.

Between sickness, more sickness, rain and visiting in-laws it was a bit rough. (joking about the MIL, she's great). As you know, the rudder was full of water, so Brett cut off the sides and dug out all the bad foam. It would never dry, despite using heat, fire, dehumidifiers, the sun and even just time. So out with the wet foam, in with the dry, slap on some silica epoxy to fill in any voids, layer on a ton of fiberglass to make it strong, barrier coat, antifouling and reinstall. No biggie! We get the new thru-hulls installed in preparation of installing our new B&G instruments, but those will wait safely in their boxes till we're ready. Again, we've been sick and stuck and we're itching to get moving again...who needs instruments anyways. We say bye to Mom, splash Eva and celebrate with a beard shave, a shower, and dinner. We had a beach bonfire on a remote island in the exuma bahamas and then a great sail flying the spinnaker at 9 knots in flat seas! What a dream! We sailed up to the famous Staniel Cay Yacht Club where we got a mooring and saw a boat that was stuck hard aground. I flew the drone to catch the action and the boat eventually freed itself with the help of their dinghy. Then the ladies got dressed to the nines in their little black dresses and we went ashore to the bar and restaurant for drinks and a great meal! Going fast downwind can be a rough ride sometimes but is great for getting to destination. We have a last scuba dive in Bora Bora before heading to Vanuatu to rejoin the GLYWO rally. We leave Maria Island and sail down to Blackman Bay and pass through the Denison Canal getting our cameras ready to video the tight transit through the swinging bridge. Today was another near-perfect day for racing in Day Four of the 2023 ORC European Championship, co-hosted by Royal Malta Yacht Club and Yachting Malta. Blue skies, flat seas and 8-12 knots of wind kept the racing close in all three classes of this championship event featuring 37 teams from 11 nations.

All of the teams are feeling pity for Team Holcim-PRB, as well as dealing with the immense heat near the equator. The Anchor Hitch is a super secure fender knot which tightens on itself when load is applied. It is really simple to tie, all you need is two round turns. One over the top of the item you are securing your fender to and the second one on top of the first. The Anchor hitch will become really tight making it hard to undo after load has been applied, making it a great option if you are away for a long time and what you fenders to be in same place when you return. Adding the bight when you finish the anchor hitch makes it a lot easier to undo. The additional width of rope used it finish with the bight is easy pulled out via the tail of the rope. The Anchor Hitch finished on a bight is a great fender knot which will secure your fenders making sure they are there when you return to you boat.
