Finally a weather window with less than 25 kts to take us from Cabo de la Vela to Aruba. A challenging passage as we have to round the Cape Horn of Colombia - Punta Gallinas. Two days of beating into 25 + kt and big confused seas is hard work. The passage from Santa Marta to Cabo de la vela took a bit longer than anticipated.

On our passage eastbound from Panama / Columbia, we cross the mighty Magdalena River on our way from Puerto Velero to Santa Marta . On arrival to Santa Marta, we are met by the Colombian Armada !

After one month in Cartagena, we sailed continue our eastbound passage. Cartagena is a beautiful town, but the water is perfect for barnacles to grow on boat. We usually sail a lots and grown has never been an issue, but one month sitting in the marina, we had 1 cm of growth . We “forgot” to clean it before settling off from Cartagena and that was a big rookie mistake. Our boat speed was 1-1.5 kt less that usual, so that makes day run 25-35 shorter! Luckily, we have Silic One anti foul paint , and cleaning the bottom was easy, but took time as I had to skindive / snorkel. Took about 6 hours, didn’t complete the whole keel . #sailing #caribbean #silicone #rookiemistakes

In Jan 2027 We will to cast off for our next big adventure — a passage from the sparkling waters of the Caribbean Sea to the vibrant shores of Brazil. This passage is not the easy trade wind passage south. We will be setting out from the Caribbean Sea toward Brazil on a demanding and relatively uncommon track — pushing against the equatorial current and sailing much of the way on a close reach. It’s a technical challenge requiring careful weather routing, constant sail trim, and patience with the conditions. The traditional and far more favorable approach to Brazil typically begins from the Canary Islands or Cape Verde, where the winds and currents carry you across the Atlantic to South Americal. But our journey took a different path. As we want to explore Cuba, Panama, and Colombia, we’ve deliberately put ourselves in a tougher position — choosing experience and discovery over convenience. For this passage the focus is on strategy, endurance, and seamanship as we work our way through the vast expanse of the Atlantic Ocean. A challenging route, an uncommon passage, and a true test of boat and crew.
