Sailing vessel Tapatya This is the story of SV Tapatya, a self-built, Jay Benford designed, 31.8ft, junk schooner-rigged cruising sailboat. The videos are a week-by-week record of our adventures as I live aboard, sail and strive to find out just what such a self-built, low-budget vessel is capable of.

On Sunday we were joined by Timon from "Virtual Vulcan to the Skies" and XH558 to conduct a series of flypasts and to pay our respects to Air Commodore Simon Baldwin who passed away last week. As Wing Commander and Officer Commanding 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron at RAF Waddington in 1982, Simon played a key role in the planning and preparation of the Vulcan operations during the Falklands conflict, known as Operation Black Buck. He oversaw the training requirements for the crews, including a number of those who would later be closely associated with XH558. Following his retirement, Simon and his wife Sheila remained huge supporters of the remaining Live Vulcans, as well as Falklands and 44 (Rhodesia) Squadron reunions. We send our sincere condolences to Simon's family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Blue skies, sir. Rest in peace. It starts with shoveling snow… and a view that reminds us exactly where we are. Welcome to a day in our life in Port Protection, Alaska. After leaving the shipyard in Wrangell, we headed west and landed in one of the most remote communities in Southeast Alaska. What started as a quick stop turned into something more… new people, unexpected projects, and the kind of days that don’t follow a plan. This is what life looks like for us living self-reliant, four seasons aboard a sailboat in Alaska. Low tide beaches that go completely dry. Paddleboarding home because home floats. Hauling concrete, working on a remote foundation repair, and navigating weather that can’t decide between snow and sun. Some days are smooth. Most aren’t. But this is the rhythm of life out here. If you’ve ever wondered what it’s actually like living off grid in Port Protection, Alaska… this is a day in it. 📍 Port Protection, Alaska ⛵ Full-time sailboat living 🛠 Remote work, problem-solving, and community life in Southeast Alaska 🕰️ CHAPTERS 00:00 Shoveling + Aerial Opening 00:40 Welcome to Our Life in Port Protection 01:13 What This Life Actually Looks Like 01:59 Low Tide Navigation 02:40 Deliveries & First Stops 04:20 Projects Start Stacking Up 07:14 Heading Back Out 07:40 Paddleboarding Home 08:40 Real Life Conversations 10:45 The Day Keeps Unfolding 12:30 Snow, Sun, Repeat 13:30 Unloading Concrete at Low Tide 14:06 Back Bay Hike 14:57 Remote Work Reality 15:36 Foundation Problems Revealed 17:02 Moving Solar & Digging In 18:04 When Things Get Complicated 19:10 Figuring It Out 19:40 Where We’re At Now
We headed into our woodland to cook a proper Dutch oven pizza over the fire… but this trip turned into something a bit more special. It was Hudson’s 2nd birthday, so we decided to celebrate it the only way that makes sense for us — deep in the forest, surrounded by trees, family, and a good fire going. In this video: Cooking pizza in a Dutch oven over open fire Simple woodland living with family Building memories out in nature A quiet, honest look at life in the woods No rush, no noise — just a proper day outside. If you enjoy this kind of content, consider subscribing. Plenty more woodland builds, cooking, and adventures to come.
After 3 years away, we're back — and this is the full story. In 2017 we left our normal lives behind to go sailing. What followed was 8 years of adventure, heartbreak, bad timing, and eventually finding our way back to the water. From the Scottish Highlands to a 100-year-old wooden boat, through Covid, boat repairs, living in a 4x4 truck, and now — a Contest 40s in southern Spain, ready for a brand new season. If you're new here, welcome. If you've been here from the start — thank you, genuinely. This one's for you. ⛵ WHAT'S COMING THIS SEASON We're heading north from Spain — Biscay coast, the Netherlands Standing Mast Route, possibly Norway, then back to the UK and up to Scotland. 4. Distraiti e resta attivo Fare qualcosa in barca aiuta il cervello a concentrarsi e riduce il disagio. 5. If you’re looking for a boat that feels utterly indestructible, the Botnia Targa 32 has a reputation that's hard to ignore. Often referred to as the “4x4 of the sea”, this is a boat designed and built in Finland, where harsh weather and choppy waters demand serious engineering. The result? Something that feels incredibly solid, confidence-inspiring, and ready to take on just about anything you throw at it. This particular 2019 example comes with some standout features, including the sleek black pack, a hardtop configuration (far more usable than the small flybridge alternatives), and an external helm that’s ideal for fishing 🎣 or manoeuvring in tighter spaces. Step inside and you’re met with a refreshingly honest interior—no unnecessary frills, just high-quality materials, clever storage, and a layout that prioritises practicality over show. It’s the kind of boat where everything feels built to last. Accommodation is compact but very well thought through, with a forward cabin, an aft cabin offering multiple berths, and a functional heads compartment. Up at the helm, visibility is excellent and the controls are reassuringly simple. Paired with twin 400hp Volvo engines, this Targa doesn’t just feel tough - it delivers serious performance too, cruising comfortably while still capable of pushing up to impressive speeds. We also take a detailed look at what it actually costs to own one, from purchase price and finance, through to fuel burn, servicing, and annual running costs. If you want a boat that you can use year-round, in real conditions, without compromise, the Targa 32 makes a very strong case for itself. ⏱️ Timestamps: 00:46 – Introducing the 2019 Botnia Targa 32 01:56 – Unique cockpit features 02:50 – Tour of the interior 06:33 – Helm position & visibility 07:37 – Forward cabin 08:40 – Aft cabin & bathroom layout 10:12 – Engine bay & twin 400hp Volvos 11:04 – A look at the Bow 12:23 – Ownership costs breakdown 14:16 – JB’s Measure of Pleasure & final verdict 🔔 Like & Subscribe for more exclusive factory tours and boat reviews! SAVE 30% on Renogy batteries - www.renogy.com We are installing these solid state batteries from Renogy and it's a technology we've been excited about for years. We live full time on our catamaran in the tropics and power is a constant concern. With this major upgrade from our 600Ah LiFePO4 to more than 2000Ah solid state lithium, we will save space, save weight and have more control over our battery bank with remote monitoring and safety limits. If you have any questions about our choice of battery, let us know in the comments. And we'll share the whole install process in a few weeks as part of our catamaran refit so make sure you're subscribed so you don't miss it! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 🙌🏻 Support us 🙌🏻 PATREON: www.patreon.com/redseas TIPJAR: www.tpjr.us/redseas NEW MERCH STORE: www.red-seas.com/shop 💬 Follow us on social media 💬 FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com/realredseas INSTAGRAM: www.instagram.com/realredseas ⏰ Time Stamps ⏰ 00:00 The new battery technology we've all been waiting for 00:58 How do batteries work? 03:10 How do lithium LiFePO4 batteries work? 07:18 Why doesn't LiFePO4 work for us? 07:37 Future of lithium battery technology - solid state 10:31 How do the Renogy Pro S1 batteries communicate? 13:03 Renogy sale until March 31st 14:34 Our catamaran refit 🎵 Music 🎵 All tracks can be found at Epidemic Sound. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 📖 Our Story 📖 We're Iain and Brioni [The Reds] a couple of redheaded Scots who sold everything we own and moved halfway round the world to buy a boat that we could call home. A piano aboard a Lagoon catamaran 🎹 A dream expressed by one of our clients, carefully studied by our teams, then tailor-made. Because true luxury is about being able to imagine anything. And above all, to customize everything. ✨ Coming soon: The new EIGHTY 3. _______________________________________________________ CATAMARAN INNOVATORS SINCE 1984 Lagoon was formed in pursuit of connection – with ourselves, our loved ones and the world around us. By bringing the human experience to the 7 seas, we’ve been able to unleash an unbridled sense of curiosity and instinctual need for quality since 1984. Something we wouldn’t have accomplished without a collective passion for spectacular destinations and even better journeys getting there. As confirmed sailors, we all know that our boats have to be fast, comfortable and safe: seaworthy. We build them based on our love of the sea and the constant aim of good-quality work. We design them as if we were the future owners. As shipbuilders and sailors, it is part of our logic. ZIPPER is an exceptional example of Hinckley’s refined 34 Runabout—one of the final boats built in this limited series and arguably the finest. Lovingly maintained and upgraded by Hinckley since new, she’s a floating, varnished floating jewel box – equipped with premium options including a generator, air conditioning, new full hull paint job & faux wood transom, and new cushions, setting her apart as a truly turn-key offering.
I just sailed 4.000 nautical miles - solo across the Atlantic Ocean from Morocco to Sint Maarten. In this video I will do a recap for the journey, talk about what I learned and what I can do better next time. ⚓ Life on the Showgirl is my journey toward one of the toughest solo sailing races on the planet: the Golden Globe Race — sailed solo, non-stop, and without modern technology. Engine blow-by is a serious issue, but hard to measure out in the field. I have partnered with J-tec Flow Meters to help with field testing their new portable prototype blow-by test kit! In the recreational marine diesel world, blow-by issues with engines is a real common struggle, and having a way to collect actual data will help alot with gauging the health of an engine. Before we set off to try out the kit though, we need to make an adaptor for the engine we will be testing - so follow along as I machine a temporary adaptor out of whatever spare parts I had laying around at the shop!

O mofo tomou conta, as baratas colonizaram o interior e o balanço constante fez o casco castigar no píer, deixando marcas da luta solitária contra as marés. Agora, o trabalho é devolver a alma (e a limpeza) à embarcação. ⛵️🩵#vidaabordo #veleiro #marina

A sunny but cold day and we set to work on 2 big projects. Fristly we need to get the trailer stanchions cut to size. We can;t really mve the boat safely until this is done. Secondly we turn to electrics and get the main switchboard for the dinghy fitted. very excited by this!!! ► Newcomers to sailing who have so far only experienced flashier, more expensive catamarans could well be forgiven for wondering why all winches aren’t electric. The convenience is undisputed – just wrap the sheet or halyard round the self-tailer and press the button. Surely this is just modern technology? How many of us have wind-up windows in our cars these days? ► The reasons are about space, simplicity (including having enough electricity to run them) and budget. On my boat for instance, there are half a dozen winches ranging in size up to a pair of 48s for the primaries. Apart from the fact that there simply isn’t room beneath the deck for electric winch motors, they’re in the order of four or five thousand euros each… putting them completely out of the question. ► But it’s not just about the convenience. As we get older, we’ve got to accept certain realities. Last year, my wife had surgery on her spine: a disk removed from her neck and the two vertebrae either side fused together. Winching wasn’t something on the surgeon’s list of recommended post-operative activities. As we sail mostly just the two of us, the boat has to be set up as if single-handing – especially for longer passages. ► And while I’d certainly heard of ewincher (it’s been around for a few years now), it wasn’t until meeting its creator Bruno Rabu at last year’s La Rochelle boat show that we’d really had a look at one. ► Rather than an electric winch, the ewincher is quite simply an electric winch handle. The same length as a traditional handle, it contains a battery and a brushless motor. The motor, with torque of 90 Nm and a speed of 110 rpm (for the ewincher 2 model), can be reversed with a button on the handle, meaning you can instantly switch speeds on a two-speed winch. The speed of the SE model is 83 rpm. Both models weigh 2.2 kg (less than 5 lbs) and are waterproof to IPX6. Powered by a 28V lithium-ion battery, they will last all day with intensive use before recharging: tested on a 40-footer, one charge allowed for hoisting the mainsail three times and then sheeting the genoa after tacking 40 times. Another obvious benefit is that it can be used on all the boat’s winches. ► Prices: Ewincher SE: € 1,899 Ewincher 2: € 2,399 ► Sign up for our newsletter and win a free two-month subscription to Multihulls World by clicking here: https://bit.ly/48JP1Vk ► Become a FREE SUBSCRIBER to Multihulls World's YouTube page now - https://www.youtube.com/c/MultihullsWorld ► Log on to our website to discover over 600 multihulls tests!
