Day 38, Solo NonStop Circumnavigation: Today was quiet, cinematic, and lazy. It’s August 31st; 2025. We’re mid Atlantic, finally south of the ITCZ, heading towards the equator. 2,055 miles from the start (Grenada). 0 engine hours have been used since setting sail. WILL ANSWER ALL COMMENTS WHEN I HAVE SERVICE! ❤️ My name is Captain Kimmer. After tri-outs: sailing across the Atlantic without any navigation equipment, just my eyes and the stars, we’re on mission 1 of 3. A Solo NonStop Circumnavigation with a twist! I hope you enjoy the show. 🐶 ♋️ The Bravest Dog in the World Is About to Change It. Help Us Get There. I’m Captain Kimmer, Kimmer O’Reilly — sailor, survivor, and founder of a mission that shouldn’t be possible. Two-time blood cancer nearly took my life. When I survived, I expected joy. What came instead was an identity crisis. I didn’t know who I was anymore — just that the old me was gone. Then came Casper — my service dog, my best friend, my reason to fight forward. Now, Casper and I are doing something no one believes can be done: a nonstop solo circumnavigation of the globe… starting from the wrong side. We’re sailing east, into the wind and current, through the Southern Ocean and past the Cape of Good Hope — proving that after cancer, life isn’t over. It can be better than it ever was. But we’re not just breaking records. We’re launching a nonprofit to help cancer survivors rediscover purpose, identity, and joy. This GoFundMe isn’t just to keep our sails full. It’s to build something that lasts long after we return. Donate today — not just to help Casper and me sail around the world, but to help thousands of survivors believe they can start again. Let’s show the world what’s possible. 👉 https://bit.ly/BravestDogInTheWorld 🎼 🎵 MUSIC: 🎵 🎼 INTRO: Song: Chime & Nytrix - RunawayMusic provided by NoCopyrightSoundsFree Download/Stream: http://ncs.io/CN_Runaway OUTRO: Song: Coopex, KHEMIS - If Looks Can Kill [NCS Release] Music provided by NoCopyrightSounds Free Download/Stream: http://ncs.io/IfLooksCanKill Watch: http://NCS.lnk.to/IfLooksCanKillAT/youtube

Making Sense of Marine Chain Standards: https://www.practical-sailor.com/sails-rigging-deckgear/anchoring-mooring/making-sense-of-marine-chain-standards Are you relying on anchoring advice that could put your boat on the beach? In today’s video we’re diving deep into the dangerous anchoring myths that continue to circulate in the cruising world — myths that have literally caused boats to drift ashore, drag in squalls, and end up smashed on reefs. Whether you're a new cruiser or a seasoned liveaboard, there are anchoring “rules of thumb” that sound helpful… but are completely wrong. Today we’re breaking down: – Why you actually need chain, and how much is REALLY enough – The myths about catenary, scope, and “just throw out more rode” – Caribbean anchoring realities (100–300 feet of chain is normal!) – Why mixed rode isn’t always safer – The hidden dangers of old or mismatched chain – Windlass mistakes that cause groundings – The anchor-alarm misconceptions that let boats drift into shore We’ll also reference real anchoring research, expert articles, and real-world cruising experience to help you anchor more safely and avoid becoming the next boat washed up on the beach. If you anchor, cruise, or live aboard — this is a “must watch” before you trust your ground tackle again. In this episode, we moved up to the northwest corner of Taha’a to stage for our sail to Huahine the next day. What followed was anything but ordinary — from a rough encounter with a local, to a joyful reunion with friends, and even a priest’s blessing for Blown Away! Don’t miss this episode. #raiatea #priest #taha’a #huahine #friends #sailing NEW TO OUR CHANNEL? We are Eileen and Brown Councill. Welcome to our channel and a glimpse into our life adventure! 2020 was a year of uncertainty and change (for all of us, right?), but we overcame the challenges and decided it was time to chase our dream, to sail around the world! Did I mention that we had very NO sailing experience? Before leaving Qingdao, China, our home of 4 years, we sold almost all of our earthly possessions and started our international search to find the right sailboat that we would call "home." After 5 months of unanticipated twists and turns, we found what we were looking for, a used Leopard 44' Catamaran located in St. Lucia. So, here begins our journey, filled with unmatched excitement and honestly, a bit of trepidation as well. We have much to learn as we travel the world on our floating home and we intend to document that journey and share it with you. We are so glad you have decided to join us, and we hope that you will find our story so compelling that it will inspire you to chase your dreams too! As a viewer, we consider you to be part of our family and look forward to getting to know you. Don't hesitate to comment on our videos and ask questions. We will do our best to answer every correspondence! All we ask is that you have patience with us as we work really hard to improve our camera/video techniques and ability to tell a story. Hopefully, you will be as BLOWN AWAY from watching, as we are in experiencing and producing our adventures! HOW CAN YOU SUPPORT US? If you wish to support our video efforts, all we ask is that you SUBSCRIBE, give a THUMBS UP, SHARE our videos with your friends, AND COMMENT! WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET TO KNOW US MORE DEEPLY? Use code ATTICUS at the link below and get 60% off an annual plan: https://incogni.com/atticus Living this far out in the mountains is incredible — but it also means we’re on our own when it comes to protecting our property. After our generator was stolen, it became clear that being remote doesn’t automatically make you safe. It just means help is a long way away if something goes wrong. So in this episode, I’m finally taking security seriously and putting systems in place to stop a future intruder before they ever get close. This isn’t about paranoia or turning our land into a fortress. It’s about being realistic, learning from a hard lesson, and protecting the tools and equipment that let us build this homestead and document the process. I walk through my security strategy in order of priority — explaining why each step matters and showing exactly what I’m installing as I go. If you live on a rural property, store tools on site, or are building far from town, this is the side of homesteading people don’t talk about enough. New to the channel? LIKE, SUBSCRIBE and COMMENT - VOTE Yes if you think the Transom doors are safe and NO if you think they are NOT!!! WATCH - https://youtu.be/_wK55agpLYk Are transom doors on Portofino catamarans a brilliant innovation… or a serious offshore risk? 🌊⚠️ In this episode, we take a deep dive into one of the most debated design features of the Portofino 52 catamaran — the aft transom doors that give incredible sea access, but also sit directly in the firing line of following seas and breaking waves. We ask the hard questions every offshore sailor should ask: • Can transom doors leak in heavy seas? • Could they fail catastrophically in extreme conditions? • Are storm boards really necessary — or outdated? • How strong is 15mm acrylic (Perspex) when it’s wave-slammed? • What happens to acrylic after years of sun exposure? To get real answers, we go straight to the source — Rafael, the designer — and break down the engineering, materials, certifications, drainage systems, gaskets, aluminum frames, and wave-impact design behind these doors. This isn’t theory. This is real-world boatbuilding, explained in detail. You’ll also learn: ✔️ Why these doors are RINA-certified watertight ✔️ How pressure from waves actually seals the door tighter ✔️ Why the dive room acts as a coffer dam for safety and buoyancy ✔️ The hidden long-term danger of UV-damaged Perspex ✔️ Why older boats fail — and modern ones don’t We finish by putting the decision back to you. 👉 Would you trust these transom doors offshore? 👉 Storm boards: Yes or No? In this episode dive into the history of these boats and the interesting story about the stolen design. We also dive into the front lockers and find a lot of useful and useless stuff. #boatlifeisbest -------------------------------------------- Welcome to Boatlife is best. We bought a cheap and neglected 49ft Performance catamaran for just $52.500. It is an Ocean Cat 49 built in 2000, and we are in the process of refitting it and getting it sailing again so we can continue our voyage around the world.

— 📍 Reitti: Ruotsin rannikko ⚓ Teemat: vastuu, oppiminen ja eteenpäin jatkaminen ⛵ Pienet satamat, suuret opetukset 🎙️ Voice over: stoalinen näkökulma merellä 🗺️ Sailing Is Life – purjehdusta sellaisena kuin se on

Life at the Marina While the Captain Is Away | Townsville Cruising | Sailing with the Jameses Ep.165
While Sam is away in Vanuatu, we’re holding down the fort and settling into marina life in Townsville. In this video we take you along for a look at what day-to-day life is like at the Breakwater Marina — from cruiser-friendly facilities and family-friendly attractions, to markets, cafés, swimming spots, and easy ways to keep kids entertained while living aboard. Marina stays are often short and busy for cruisers, filled with maintenance, provisioning, and catching up on life admin — so Townsville has been a great place to pause, reset, and enjoy some shore-based comforts while still living the cruising life. If you’re a cruising family, planning a stop in Townsville, or just curious what marina life looks like when one half of the crew is away, this one’s for you. --------------------------------- 🎉 WANT TO KEEP VIDEOS COMING? Life on a liveaboard sailboat isn’t just sunsets and smooth sailing — it’s constant maintenance, problem-solving, and a never-ending list of boat jobs. In this episode, we take you behind the scenes of real liveaboard sailing life as we tackle the everyday jobs that keep our sailboat moving, safe, and ready for long-term cruising. From fixing small issues that pop up without warning, to staying ahead of preventative maintenance, this is what full-time sailboat living really looks like. When you live on a boat, you quickly learn that every system matters — electrical, rigging, plumbing, deck hardware, and everything in between. There’s no calling a tradesperson when you’re anchored out, so you become the mechanic, electrician, and problem-solver all in one. We also dive into our solar upgrade plans, a crucial step toward energy independence for anyone living aboard or planning to sail around the world. Reliable solar power on a sailboat means fewer engine hours, quieter anchorages, and the ability to live off-grid for longer. We talk through why we’re upgrading, what we’re hoping to achieve, and how improving our boat electrical system supports long-term cruising and life at anchor. If you’re interested in liveaboard sailing, sailboat maintenance, cruising upgrades, or learning what it really takes to travel the world by sailboat, this episode offers an honest look at the work that happens between passages. These are the jobs that don’t make the highlight reel, but they’re essential for safety, comfort, and self-sufficiency at sea. Whether you’re a beginner sailor, a sailboat owner, or someone dreaming about quitting land life to live on a boat, this video will give you realistic insight into the lifestyle. Boat projects, upgrades, and maintenance are all part of the journey — and they’re just as important as the sailing itself. Thanks for joining us as we continue preparing our sailboat for long-term cruising and life as full-time liveaboard sailors. If you enjoy real sailing content, boat projects, and honest cruising life, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and follow along as we sail toward our goal of exploring the world by wind power. It's been two years since our first sail in @SailingAstridTheWombat actually that means it's been a year and a half since our first sail ever. That's right a year ago we bought this Beneteau Oceanis 430 and pulled the sail up for the first time ever when we brought her home. A sail that stretched 700 nautical miles from Townsville in Far North Queensland Australia to Moreton Bay in Brisbane Queensland. We are now preparing to move onboard and to sail around the world. Join us to see the challenges as we continue to learn to sail, prepare our boat and make changes so our boat feels like a home. We are moving onboard in just a few weeks so our sailing dream is getting closer and closer. Each experience we have and each new sailing skill learnt just keeps bringing us closer to taking off to sail around the world in our Beneteau Oceanis 430 @SailingAstridTheWombat living our boat life dream. We want to show step by step what it takes to choose a boat, buy the boat and learn how to sail. Our sailing learning curve is steep so come along with us as we learn and grow as liveaboard sailors. We promise you will have a laugh! This video offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at how a Targa is built, through the lens of the Targa 41. This video, produced by Targa, highlights the blend of modern precision and traditional craftsmanship that defines Targa. From infused hull construction to hand-finished interiors, all focused on building boats designed to endure. At East Coast Yacht Sales, we work closely with Targa to ensure each boat is thoughtfully configured for how it’s meant to be used, while remaining fully supported here in the United States.
