We collided with yet another log! This is the 4th one in 12 months and I'm over it! Fortunately this collision was not too bad and we only suffered minimal damage to the rudder and were able to continue on or way. I will repair the rudder at a later date. After that we had a pretty relaxing sail and anchored at an amazingly beautiful island. It's not often that you get an island all to yourself in Indonesia and we really enjoyed the peace and quiet. Later a boat full of locals came past and told us this particular island was sacred and thought to be possessed by devil spirits and that we shouldn't go ashore under any circumstances! Wow ok. A few days later, sailing to a new island our Jib started to break apart. I've sort of been waiting for it too happen so wasn't too surprised when it blew apart. Now we are in need of an expensive new sail! From careful route planning to dodging humpback whales in Hervey Bay, this passage demanded patience, preparation, and constant awareness. In this video, we share how we chose our route south from Bundaberg, why depth matters so much through the Straits, and how tools like Queensland’s Beacon to Beacon Guide helped us navigate safely. It’s a fascinating stretch of water — beautiful, challenging, and unlike anywhere else we’ve sailed. After wrapping up this final passage aboard Te Tāiko, we return to New Zealand for a while — still travelling, still exploring, and still sharing our life by land and sea. Recorded March 8 & 9, 2025. She Tells Sea Tales is an annual event by Northwest Maritime that provides a welcoming and safe space for all women to share their connections to water. Proceeds from the event help support the Northwest Maritime’s women- and girls-centered educational maritime programs, including the Girls’ Boat Project. Join us in Port Townsend on March 7, 2026 for the next edition of this beloved event. Meegan Corcoran started her maritime career when she joined the US Navy in 2002. She served for 8 years and got out to pursue her dreams of being a marine biologist. That sort of happened when Meegan started working at Friday Harbor Labs as their Manager of Marine Operations where she oversaw their research vessel and science at sea. From there, Meegan was promoted to Port Captain for the University of Washington where she managed the global research vessel Thomas G Thompson and the R/V Rachel Carson. In that position, Meegan traveled to 13 countries and collected some harrowing experiences. Today, Meegan works for UNOLS as the Crewing Manager for the US Academic Research Fleet and helps oversee the operations of 18 research vessels nationwide. Ensuite, place à la préparation de la soirée, car les bateaux copains Plan BCD et TIAMA viennent dîner à bord ⛵❤️ Au programme : soirée crêpes, salées et sucrées 🥞 Après avoir fait sauter les crêpes, direction l’eau avec les enfants pour un bon moment d’amusement… jusqu’à ce que Mathis se prenne le plus gros plat de sa vie en tentant un salto avant 🤣 D’ailleurs, c’est lui-même qui suggérera le titre de la vidéo : 👉 “Le plus gros plat de Mathis” 😂😂 Le lendemain, on me retrouve en route pour Bequia en annexe, pour un nouveau projet d’amélioration du bateau.
