Today we are out for an adventure.... We head out to look for the abandoned radio tower, take the puppies for quick swim, snorkel Sombero Reef and find Gilligan's island... Snorkeling was epic, no need to leave the boat, they just hang out right there so we just grabbed a line and hung out with them. My paid partner BetterHelp makes therapy simple, with 10% off your first month to help you get started: https://betterhelp.com/delos Today's episode is a super fun one with a healthy dose of nostalgia as we revisit one of the places we loved so much our first time around. It's the first sailing destination that we've returned to together (I hadn't met Kazza yet when I sailed through French Polynesia and Tonga the first time) and it felt sooo crazy to be back in the same place as totally different people. This season has been a lot of fun but also pretty challenging, and after soooo much boat work, and sooooo many miles, it finally feels like we have the chance to settle in and enjoy some proper Fijian cruising. We visit a very cool village that very rarely has sailors visiting, and we had so much fun hanging and playing with all the kids. We also welcome our first new crew we've had in a suuuuper long time, and our first ever Frenchie! Mathilde will be joining us for the passage to Australia, so it was great to be able to spend some time together and for her to get used to the boat before we set off in next week's episode for our last long passage on Delos (I know we can't believe it either 🥹) Get behind the scenes with exclusive bonus content, early & ad free videos, meet up invites, and more! https://patreon.com/svdelos Interested in getting your own Delos Explorer 53? https://svdelos.com/delos2 You can find all the camera gear we use, our must have cruising essentials, tools, recommended reading, safety gear, and more at our amazon storefront! https://svdelos.com/amazon Watch our 4 part docu-series: https://80northseries.com Protect yourself from the sun! https://svdelos.com/rashguards Support Our Videos- Send Us Love http://svdelos.com/beer http://patreon.com/svdelos We're completing our sail around the world, so there's plenty more to see! I left the boat behind in Amami and took the big boat to Okinawa ( read Ferry) and it is day 6 of my second journey this year to Japan`s Longevity Hot Spots. I am in Okinawa asking the question of what went wrong. Why is it not a Blue Zone anymore. Among the conversations I have had since I arrived is one I had with a 33 year old. It enlightened me. Longevity isn’t just about how long we live — it’s also about how well. In Okinawa, once known as the “Land of Immortals,” I’ve been asking not just the elderly, but also the younger generation what they see in their parents and grandparents. On Day 6 of my 30-day journey across Japan’s longevity hotspots, I spoke with a 33-year-old Okinawan who shared candid thoughts about the “red zone” — the extended period of declining health that too many face. His words revealed something crucial: longevity casts a long shadow, and the younger generation feels it too. Community traditions like moai are still alive, often fueled by social connections and even drinking culture, but questions remain: how can Okinawa, and Japan more broadly, sustain not just lifespan, but healthy lifespan? This journey is part of my research for my upcoming book, A Journey Beyond the Blue Zone. These are glimpses of what I’m discovering — insights that challenge the myths and reveal deeper truths about aging, resilience, and community. #Longevity #BlueZones #HealthyAging #Resilience #Japan

This week, we pick up where we left off in Baddeck, NS. Robin continues learning the ropes, opting to “singlehanded” Arabella from Baddeck to Kelly’s Cove, which is the last anchorage before the open North Atlantic ocean. Robin drops the mooring and runs back to take control of the tiller, navigating the mooring field and safely steering Arabella out to the lake. She raises sail, brings Arabella to her destination for the day, and drops anchor in Kelly’s Cove. Kelly’s Cove is a quiet harbor surrounded by the hills of Cape Breton—including a network of ATV trails weaving through the mountains. With the outdoor ban lifted, we decide to do some exploring. The trails are steep and loose, and it feels so good to hike up, up, up, and up. The next day, we weigh anchor again and head into some strong currents in the narrows, but without a wind-over-current situation, we didn’t experience the wild breakers that many people have noted in this section of Bras d’Or Lake. Once into the North Atlantic, we raise sail and make way for North Sydney, NS. From North Sydney, Robin rides her bike 61-miles back to St. Peters to shuttle the truck, and I take the opportunity to tackle a few boat projects from the to-do list, starting with painting our propane tanks with TotalBoat’s TotalProtect. After the propane tanks are looking spiffy again, I tackle the next project: adding nylon rode to our anchor chain. As we head to Newfoundland, the water gets steep-to-shore in many places, and we may need 200’ or 300’ of rode to anchor safely. I consider using an anchor chain splice to connect the rode to the chain, but the fact that it cannot be removed from the chain makes it a poor fit for our needs. A Spectra soft shackle is a better connection for our set up. I get the new anchor rode system installed in the forepeak, and we’re ready to sail this wooden boat across the Cabot Strait to Newfoundland…which we do next week. See you then! -------------------------- Sign up for our email newsletter: http://eepurl.com/hn3Qyv Acorn to Arabella started as a wooden boat building project in Granby, Massachusetts. Steve began the journey as an amateur wooden boat builder crafting a 38' wooden sailboat in his backyard: designer William Atkin's Ingrid with a Stormy Petrel's gaff rig. These videos follow the journey from tree felling, to lumber milling, to lofting, to the lead keel pour and now sailing the boat—sharing details of the woodworking, carpentry, metal smithing, tool building, and tool maintenance that traditional wooden boats command. This ultimate DIY project continues beyond the boat shop, as Steve and crew travel and learn to cruise aboard the handmade wooden boat that they've built. Snowbird is a term I heard a lot when in the US and it refers to people who live in the Northern States during the summer and then move South to Florida for the winter. It occured to me that while we don't get snowed in back in Australia I see exactly the same movement North from people in Melbourne and Sydney escaping the colder months and that this Riviera is an ideal boat to do that in. From an entertainmemt and liveaboard perspective this is a fantastic platform. She's also very easy and relaxing to operate from the primary helm with some of the best visability for a yacht of this size, making her a relaxing vessel in busy waterways. Add the convenience of a tender garage and the fact that it's a Riviera so she'll be ultra comfortable offshore and you have a very nice package for enjoying year round summers.
